1 ¶ Do not be envious of evil men, neither desire to be with them.

No tengas envidia de los malvados, Ni desees estar con ellos;

2 F or their heart studies robbery, and their lips speak evil.

Porque su corazón trama violencia, Y sus labios hablan de hacer mal.

3 ¶ Through wisdom the house shall be built, and with intelligence it shall be established:

Con sabiduría se edifica una casa, Y con prudencia se afianza;

4 A nd by knowledge shall the chambers be filled with all precious and beautiful riches.

Con conocimiento se llenan las cámaras De todo bien preciado y deseable.

5 T he wise man is strong; and the man of understanding is a mighty man of valour.

El hombre sabio es fuerte, Y el hombre de conocimiento aumenta su poder.

6 F or by wise counsel thou shalt make thy war, and in the multitude of counsellors there is saving health.

Porque con dirección sabia harás la guerra, Y en la abundancia de consejeros está la victoria.

7 ¶ Wisdom, is too high for a fool; he shall not open his mouth in the gate.

Muy alta está la sabiduría para el necio, En la puerta de la ciudad no abre su boca.

8 H e that devises to do evil shall be called a man of evil designs.

Al que planea hacer el mal, Lo llamarán intrigante.

9 T he thought of the foolish is sin, and the scorner is an abomination to men.

El tramar necedad es pecado, Y el insolente es abominación a los hombres.

10 ¶ If thou art slack in the day of tribulation, thy strength shall be reduced.

Si eres débil en día de angustia, Tu fuerza es limitada.

11 ¶ If thou forbear to deliver those that are drawn unto death and those that are ready to be slain,

Libra a los que son llevados a la muerte, Y retén a los que van con pasos vacilantes a la matanza.

12 i f thou should say, Behold, we knew it not; shall not he that weighs the hearts understand it? and he that keeps thy soul, does he not know it? and shall he not render to every man according to his works?

Si dices: “Mira, no sabíamos esto.” ¿No lo tiene en cuenta el que sondea los corazones ? ¿No lo sabe el que guarda tu alma ? ¿No dará a cada hombre según su obra ?

13 ¶ My son, eat of the honey, because it is good, and of the honeycomb, which is sweet to thy taste:

Come miel, hijo mío, porque es buena; Sí, la miel del panal es dulce a tu paladar.

14 S o shall the knowledge of wisdom be unto thy soul: if thou shalt find it, and in the end thy hope shall not be cut off.

Debes saber que así es la sabiduría para tu alma; Si la hallas, entonces habrá un futuro, Y tu esperanza no será cortada.

15 ¶ Do not lay in wait, O wicked man, against the dwelling of the righteous; do not spoil his resting place.

No aceches, oh impío, la morada del justo; No destruyas su lugar de descanso;

16 F or a just man falls seven times and rises up again, but the wicked shall fall into evil.

Porque el justo cae siete veces, y vuelve a levantarse, Pero los impíos caerán en la desgracia.

17 ¶ Do not rejoice when thy enemy falls, and do not let thy heart be glad when he stumbles

No te regocijes cuando caiga tu enemigo, Y no se alegre tu corazón cuando tropiece;

18 l est the LORD see it and it displease him, and he turn away his wrath from him.

No sea que el Señor lo vea y Le desagrade, Y aparte de él Su ira.

19 ¶ Do not meddle with those who are evil, neither be envious of the wicked;

No te impacientes a causa de los malhechores Ni tengas envidia de los impíos;

20 f or the evil man shall not come to a good end; the fire of the wicked shall be put out.

Porque no habrá futuro para el malo. La lámpara de los impíos será apagada.

21 ¶ My son, fear the LORD and the king, and do not meddle with those that are given to change,

Hijo mío, teme al Señor y al rey; No te asocies con los que son inestables;

22 f or their calamity shall rise suddenly; and the ruin of them both, who shall know it?

Porque de repente se levantará su desgracia, Y la destrucción que vendrá de ambos, ¿quién la sabe?

23 ¶ These things also belong to the wise. It is not good to have respect of persons in judgment.

También éstos son dichos de los sabios: “Hacer acepción de personas en el juicio no es bueno.”

24 H e that saith unto the wicked, Thou art righteous; him shall the peoples curse, nations shall abhor him:

Al que dice al impío: “Eres justo,” Lo maldecirán los pueblos, lo aborrecerán las naciones;

25 B ut unto those that rebuke him shall be delight, and a blessing of good shall come upon them.

Pero los que lo reprenden tendrán felicidad, Y sobre ellos vendrá abundante bendición.

26 T he lips of the one that gives a right answer shall be kissed.

Besa los labios El que da una respuesta correcta.

27 ¶ Prepare thy work without and make it fit for thyself in thine inheritance, and afterwards thou shalt build thine house.

Ordena tus labores de fuera Y tenlas listas para ti en el campo, Y después edifica tu casa.

28 ¶ Do not be a false witness against thy neighbour, and do not flatter with thy lips.

No seas, sin causa, testigo contra tu prójimo, Y no engañes con tus labios.

29 D o not say, I will do unto him as he has done unto me; I will render to the man according to his work.

No digas: “Como él me ha hecho, así le haré; Pagaré al hombre según su obra.”

30 ¶ I went by the field of the slothful and by the vineyard of the man void of understanding,

He pasado junto al campo del perezoso Y junto a la viña del hombre falto de entendimiento,

31 a nd, behold, it was all grown over with thorns, and nettles had covered its face, and its stone wall was broken down.

Y vi que todo estaba lleno de cardos, Su superficie cubierta de ortigas, Y su cerca de piedras, derribada.

32 T hen I saw, and considered it well: I looked upon it and received chastening.

Cuando lo vi, reflexioné sobre ello; Miré, y recibí instrucción.

33 Y et a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:

“ Un poco de dormir, otro poco de dormitar, Otro poco de cruzar las manos para descansar,”

34 S o shall thy poverty come as one that travels and thy want as an armed man.

Y llegará tu pobreza como ladrón, Y tu necesidad como hombre armado.
