1 ¶ Boast not thyself of tomorrow for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.

No te gloríes del día de mañana, Porque no sabes qué traerá el día.

2 ¶ Let another man praise thee and not thine own mouth; a stranger, and not thine own lips.

Que te alabe el extraño, y no tu boca; El extranjero, y no tus labios.

3 ¶ A stone is heavy and the sand weighty; but a fool’s wrath is heavier than them both.

Pesada es la piedra y pesada la arena, Pero la provocación del necio es más pesada que ambas.

4 W rath is cruel, and anger is impetuous, but who is able to stand before envy?

Cruel es el furor e inundación la ira; Pero ¿quién se mantendrá ante los celos ?

5 ¶ Open rebuke is better than secret love.

Mejor es la reprensión franca Que el amor encubierto.

6 F aithful are the wounds of a friend, but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.

Fieles son las heridas del amigo, Pero engañosos los besos del enemigo.

7 ¶ The full soul loathes a honeycomb, but to the hungry soul every bitter thing is sweet.

El hombre saciado aborrece la miel, Pero para el hombre hambriento todo lo amargo le es dulce.

8 ¶ As a bird that wanders from her nest, so is a man that wanders from his place.

Como pájaro que vaga lejos de su nido, Así es el hombre que vaga lejos de su hogar.

9 ¶ Ointment and perfume rejoice the heart, so does the sweetness of a man’s friend by hearty counsel.

El ungüento y el perfume alegran el corazón, Y dulce para su amigo es el consejo del hombre.

10 D o not forsake thine own friend and thy father’s friend, neither go into thy brother’s house in the day of thy calamity, for better is a neighbour that is near than a brother far off.

No abandones a tu amigo ni al amigo de tu padre, Ni vayas a la casa de tu hermano el día de tu infortunio. Mejor es un vecino cerca que un hermano lejos.

11 ¶ My son, be wise and make my heart glad that I may answer him that reproaches me.

Sé sabio, hijo mío, y alegra mi corazón, Para que yo responda al que me afrenta.

12 ¶ A prudent man foresees the evil and hides himself, but the simple pass on and are hurt by it.

El hombre prudente ve el mal y se esconde, Los simples siguen adelante y pagan las consecuencias.

13 ¶ Take his garment that is surety for a stranger and take a pledge of him that is surety for a strange woman.

Tómale la ropa al que sale fiador del extraño; Y tómale prenda por la mujer desconocida.

14 ¶ He that blesses his friend with a loud voice, rising early in the morning, it shall be counted a curse to him.

Al que muy de mañana bendice a su amigo en alta voz, Le será contado como una maldición.

15 ¶ A continual dripping in a very rainy day and a contentious woman are alike.

Gotera constante en día de lluvia Y mujer rencillosa, son semejantes;

16 W hosoever hides her hides the wind, because the oil in his right hand cries out.

El que trata de contenerla, es como refrenar al viento Y recoger aceite con su mano derecha.

17 ¶ Iron sharpens iron; so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.

El hierro con hierro se afila, Y un hombre aguza a otro.

18 ¶ Whosoever keeps the fig tree shall eat the fruit thereof, so he that waits on his master shall be honoured.

El que cuida la higuera comerá su fruto, Y el que atiende a su señor será honrado.

19 ¶ As in water face corresponds to face, so the heart of man to man.

Como el agua refleja el rostro, Así el corazón del hombre refleja al hombre.

20 ¶ Sheol and hell are never full; so the eyes of man are never satisfied.

El Seol y el Abadón nunca se sacian; Tampoco se sacian los ojos del hombre.

21 ¶ As the fining pot tries the silver and the furnace the gold; so the man is tried by the mouth of whoever praises him.

El crisol es para la plata y el horno para el oro, Y al hombre se le prueba por la alabanza que recibe.

22 ¶ Though thou should bray a fool in a mortar among wheat with a pestle, yet his foolishness will not depart from him.

Aunque machaques con el mazo al necio en un mortero entre el grano molido, No se apartará de él su necedad.

23 ¶ Be thou diligent to know the countenance of thy sheep, and put thy heart into thy herds.

Conoce bien la condición de tus rebaños, Y presta atención a tu ganado;

24 F or riches are not for ever, and does the crown endure to every generation?

Porque las riquezas no son eternas, Ni perdurará la corona por todas las generaciones.

25 T he tender grass shows itself, and the hay appears, and the herbs of the mountains are reaped.

Cuando la hierba desaparece se ve el retoño, Y se recogen las hierbas de los montes;

26 T he lambs are for thy clothing, and the goats are for the price of the field.

Los corderos darán para tu vestido, Y las cabras para el precio de un campo,

27 A nd thou shalt have goats’ milk enough for thy food, for the food of thy household, and for the maintenance of thy maidens.

Y habrá suficiente leche de cabra para tu alimento, Para el alimento de tu casa, Y sustento para tus doncellas.
