1 ¶ Now when they had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where the synagogue of the Jews was.

Después de pasar por Anfípolis y Apolonia, Pablo y Silas llegaron a Tesalónica, donde había una sinagoga de los Judíos.

2 A nd Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three sabbath days reasoned with them out of the scriptures,

Y Pablo, entró según su costumbre, y por tres días de reposo discutió con ellos basándose en las Escrituras,

3 d eclaring openly and proposing that it behooved the Christ to have suffered and risen again from the dead and that this Jesus, whom I preach unto you, is the Christ.

explicando y presentando evidencia de que era necesario que el Cristo (el Mesías) padeciera y resucitara de entre los muertos, y diciendo: “Este Jesús, a quien yo les anuncio, es el Cristo.”

4 A nd some of them believed and consorted with Paul and Silas; and of the devout Greeks a great multitude, and of the noble women not a few.

Algunos de ellos creyeron, y se unieron a Pablo y a Silas, junto con una gran multitud de Griegos temerosos de Dios y muchas de las mujeres principales.

5 B ut the disobedient Jews, moved with envy, took unto them certain lewd fellows of the baser sort and gathered a company and set all the city on an uproar and assaulted the house of Jason and sought to bring them out to the people.

Pero los Judíos, llenos de envidia, llevaron algunos hombres malvados de la plaza pública, organizaron una turba y alborotaron la ciudad. Asaltando la casa de Jasón, procuraban sacarlos al pueblo.

6 A nd when they did not find them, they brought Jason and certain brethren unto the rulers of the city, crying, These that have turned the world upside down have come here also,

Al no encontrarlos, arrastraron a Jasón y a algunos de los hermanos ante las autoridades de la ciudad, gritando: “Esos que han trastornado al mundo han venido acá también;

7 w hom Jason has received, and these all do contrary to the decrees of Caesar, saying that there is another king, one Jesus.

y Jasón los ha recibido. Todos ellos actúan contra los decretos del César, diciendo que hay otro rey, Jesús.”

8 A nd they troubled the people and the rulers of the city when they heard these things.

Y alborotaron a la multitud y a las autoridades de la ciudad que oían esto.

9 A nd when they had taken security of Jason and of the others, they let them go.

Pero después de recibir una fianza de Jasón y de los otros, los soltaron. Pablo y Silas Enviados a Berea

10 ¶ And the brethren immediately sent Paul and Silas away by night unto Berea, who when they got there went into the synagogue of the Jews.

Enseguida los hermanos enviaron de noche a Pablo y a Silas a Berea, los cuales, al llegar, fueron a la sinagoga de los Judíos.

11 T hese were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all diligence and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.

Estos eran más nobles que los de Tesalónica, pues recibieron la palabra con toda solicitud, escudriñando diariamente las Escrituras, para ver si estas cosas eran así.

12 T herefore many of them believed, also of honourable women who were Greeks and of men, not a few.

Por eso muchos de ellos creyeron, así como también un buen número de Griegos, hombres y mujeres de distinción.

13 B ut when the Jews of Thessalonica had knowledge that the word of God was preached by Paul at Berea, they came there also and stirred up the people.

Pero cuando los Judíos de Tesalónica supieron que la palabra de Dios había sido proclamada por Pablo también en Berea, fueron también allá para agitar y alborotar a las multitudes.

14 A nd then immediately the brethren sent Paul to go away towards the sea, but Silas and Timothy abode there still.

Entonces los hermanos inmediatamente enviaron a Pablo para que fuera hasta el mar; pero Silas y Timoteo se quedaron allí.

15 A nd those that conducted Paul brought him unto Athens; and receiving an order from him unto Silas and Timothy to come unto him as soon as possible, they departed.

Los que conducían a Pablo lo llevaron hasta Atenas; y después de recibir órdenes de que Silas y Timoteo se unieran a él lo más pronto posible, se fueron. Pablo en Atenas

16 ¶ Now while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was stirred in him when he saw the city completely given over to idolatry.

Mientras Pablo los esperaba en Atenas, su espíritu se enardecía (se indignaba) dentro de él al contemplar la ciudad llena de ídolos.

17 T herefore he disputed in the synagogue with the Jews and with the devout persons and in the market daily with those that he met with.

Así que discutía en la sinagoga con los Judíos y con los Gentiles temerosos de Dios, y diariamente en la plaza con los que estuvieran presentes.

18 T hen certain philosophers of the Epicureans and of the Stoics encountered him. And some said, What will this babbler say? others, He seems to be a setter forth of new gods, because he preached unto them Jesus and the resurrection.

También discutían con él algunos de los filósofos Epicúreos y Estoicos. Y algunos decían: “¿Qué quiere decir este palabrero ?” “Parece ser un predicador de divinidades extrañas,” decían otros; porque les predicaba a (anunciaba el evangelio de) Jesús y la resurrección.

19 A nd they took him and brought him unto the Areopagus, saying, May we know what this new doctrine is, of which thou speakest?

Entonces tomaron a Pablo y lo llevaron al Areópago, diciendo: “¿Podemos saber qué es esta nueva enseñanza que usted proclama ?

20 F or thou bringest certain new things to our ears; we desire, therefore, to know what these things mean.

Porque le oímos decir cosas extrañas; por tanto, queremos saber qué significan.”

21 ( For all the Athenians and strangers who were there spent their time in nothing else, but either to tell or to hear some new thing.)

Pues todos los Atenienses y los extranjeros de visita allí, no pasaban el tiempo en otra cosa sino en decir o en oír algo nuevo.

22 ¶ Then Paul stood in the midst of the Areopagus, and said, Ye men of Athens, I perceive that in all things ye are too superstitious.

Entonces Pablo poniéndose en pie en medio del Areópago, dijo: “Varones Atenienses, percibo que ustedes son muy religiosos en todo sentido.

23 F or as I passed by and beheld your sanctuaries, I found an altar with this inscription, TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him I declare unto you.

Porque mientras pasaba y observaba los objetos de su adoración, hallé también un altar con esta inscripción: ‘AL DIOS DESCONOCIDO.’ Pues lo que ustedes adoran sin conocer, eso les anuncio yo.

24 T he God that made the world and all the things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands;

El Dios que hizo el mundo y todo lo que en él hay, puesto que es Señor del cielo y de la tierra, no mora en templos hechos por manos de hombres,

25 n either is worshipped with men’s hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he gives to all life and breath and all things

ni es servido por manos humanas, como si necesitara de algo, puesto que El da a todos vida y aliento y todas las cosas.

26 a nd has made of one blood all the lineage of men to dwell on all the face of the earth and has determined the seasons (which he has limited) and the bounds of their habitation;

“De uno solo, Dios hizo todas las naciones del mundo para que habitaran sobre toda la superficie de la tierra, habiendo determinado sus tiempos y las fronteras de los lugares donde viven,

27 t hat they should seek the Lord, if in any manner they might reach out to touch him and find him though he is not far from each one of us;

para que buscaran a Dios, y de alguna manera, palpando, Lo hallen, aunque El no está lejos de ninguno de nosotros.

28 f or in him we live and move and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also of his lineage.

Porque en El vivimos, nos movemos y existimos, así como algunos de los poetas de ustedes han dicho: ‘Porque también nosotros somos linaje Suyo.’

29 B eing therefore of the lineage of God, we ought not to think that which is Divine is like unto gold or silver or stone, bearing the mark of art and man’s imagination.

“Siendo, pues, linaje de Dios, no debemos pensar que la Naturaleza Divina sea semejante a oro, plata o piedra, esculpidos por el arte y el pensamiento humano.

30 F or the times of this ignorance God overlooked, but he now commands all men everywhere to repent

Por tanto, habiendo pasado por alto los tiempos de ignorancia, Dios declara ahora a todos los hombres, en todas partes, que se arrepientan.

31 b ecause he has appointed a day, in which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he has ordained; of whom he has given assurance unto all men in that he has raised him from the dead.

Porque El ha establecido un día en el cual juzgará al mundo en justicia, por medio de un Hombre a quien El ha designado, habiendo presentado pruebas a todos los hombres cuando Lo resucitó de entre los muertos.”

32 ¶ And when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked; and others said, We will hear thee again of this matter.

Cuando oyeron de la resurrección de los muertos, algunos se burlaban, pero otros dijeron: “Le escucharemos otra vez acerca de esto.”

33 S o Paul departed from among them.

Entonces Pablo salió de entre ellos.

34 B ut certain men believed and joined themselves with him, among whom was Dionysius of the Areopagus and a woman named Damaris and others with them.

Pero algunos se unieron a él y creyeron, entre los cuales estaban Dionisio el Areopagita, una mujer llamada Dámaris y otros con ellos.
