1 ¶ The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD in the tenth year of Zedekiah king of Judah, which was the eighteenth year of Nebuchadrezzar;

Palabra que vino a Jeremías de parte del Señor en el año décimo de Sedequías, rey de Judá, que fue el año dieciocho de Nabucodonosor.

2 f or then the king of Babylon’s army besieged Jerusalem; and Jeremiah the prophet was shut up in the court of the guard, which was in the king of Judah’s house.

En aquel tiempo el ejército del rey de Babilonia tenía sitiada a Jerusalén, y el profeta Jeremías estaba encerrado en el patio de la guardia, que estaba en la casa del rey de Judá,

3 F or Zedekiah king of Judah had shut him up, saying, Why dost thou prophesy, and say, Thus hath the LORD said, Behold, I give this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall take it?

porque Sedequías, rey de Judá, lo había encerrado, diciéndole: “¿Por qué profetizas: ‘Así dice el Señor: “Voy a entregar esta ciudad en manos del rey de Babilonia, y él la tomará;

4 A nd Zedekiah king of Judah shall not escape out of the hand of the Chaldeans but shall surely be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon and shall speak with him mouth to mouth, and his eyes shall behold his eyes;

y Sedequías, rey de Judá, no escapará de la mano de los Caldeos, sino que ciertamente será entregado en manos del rey de Babilonia que hablará con él cara a cara, y sus ojos verán sus ojos;

5 a nd he shall lead Zedekiah to Babylon, and there shall he be until I visit him, said the LORD; if ye fight with the Chaldeans, ye shall not prosper?

y Nabucodonosor llevará a Sedequías a Babilonia, y allí estará hasta que Yo lo visite,” declara el Señor, “y si ustedes pelean contra los Caldeos, no tendrán éxito ”’?”

6 A nd Jeremiah said, The word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

Entonces Jeremías dijo: “Vino a mí la palabra del Señor y me dijo:

7 B ehold, Hanameel the son of Shallum thine uncle comes unto thee, saying, Buy my field that is in Anathoth, for the right of redemption is thine to buy it.

‘Hanamel, hijo de tu tío Salum, viene a verte y te dirá: “Cómprate el campo que tengo en Anatot, porque tú tienes el derecho de rescate para comprarlo.”’

8 S o Hanameel my uncle’s son came to me in the court of the guard according to the word of the LORD and said unto me, Buy my field, I pray thee, that is in Anathoth, which is in the country of Benjamin; for the right of inheritance is thine, and the redemption is thine; buy it for thyself. Then I knew that this was the word of the LORD.

Y Hanamel, hijo de mi tío, vino a verme al patio de la guardia conforme a la palabra del Señor, y me dijo: ‘Te ruego que compres el campo que tengo en Anatot, que está en la tierra de Benjamín, porque tú tienes el derecho de posesión y el rescate es tuyo; cómpralo para ti.’ Entonces supe que ésta era la palabra del Señor.

9 A nd I bought the field of Hanameel my uncle’s son, that was in Anathoth and weighed him the money, even seventeen shekels of silver.

“Así que compré a Hanamel, hijo de mi tío, el campo que estaba en Anatot, y le pesé la plata, diecisiete siclos (194 gramos) de plata.

10 A nd I subscribed the evidence and sealed it and took witnesses and weighed him the money in the balances.

Firmé la escritura y la sellé, llamé testigos y pesé la plata en la balanza.

11 S o I took the evidence of the purchase, both that which was sealed according to the law and custom, and that which was open.

Luego tomé la escritura de compra, la copia sellada con los términos y condiciones, y también la copia abierta;

12 A nd I gave the evidence of the purchase unto Baruch the son of Neriah, the son of Maaseiah, in the sight of Hanameel my uncle’s son and in the presence of the witnesses that subscribed the book of the purchase before all the Jews that were in the court of the guard.

y entregué la escritura de compra a Baruc, hijo de Nerías, hijo de Maasías, en presencia de Hanamel, hijo de mi tío, en presencia de los testigos que firmaron la escritura de compra y en presencia de todos los Judíos que se encontraban en el patio de la guardia.

13 A nd I charged Baruch before them, saying,

Y en presencia de ellos, ordené a Baruc:

14 T hus hath the LORD of the hosts, the God of Israel, said: Take these evidences, this evidence of the purchase, both that which is sealed, and this evidence which is open; and put them in an earthen vessel that they may continue many days.

Así dice el Señor de los ejércitos, el Dios de Israel: “Toma estas escrituras, esta escritura de compra sellada y esta escritura abierta, y ponlas en una vasija de barro para que duren mucho tiempo.”

15 F or thus hath the LORD of the hosts the God of Israel said: Houses and fields and vineyards shall be bought and sold again in this land.

Porque así dice el Señor de los ejércitos, el Dios de Israel: “De nuevo se comprarán casas, campos y viñas en esta tierra.”’

16 ¶ Now when I had delivered the evidence of the purchase unto Baruch the son of Neriah, I prayed unto the LORD, saying,

“Después de haber entregado la escritura de compra a Baruc, hijo de Nerías, oré al Señor:

17 A h Lord GOD! behold, thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and stretched out arm, and there is nothing hidden from thee;

‘¡Ah, Señor Dios! Ciertamente, Tú hiciste los cielos y la tierra con Tu gran poder y con Tu brazo extendido. Nada es imposible para Ti,

18 t hat thou dost show mercy in thousands and recompense the iniquity of the fathers into the bosom of their sons after them, the Great, the Mighty God, the LORD of the hosts, is his name,

que muestras misericordia a millares, pero que castigas la iniquidad de los padres en sus hijos después de ellos. Oh grande y poderoso Dios, el Señor de los ejércitos es Su nombre.

19 g reat in counsel and magnificent in works: for thine eyes are open upon all the ways of the sons of men to give unto each one according to his ways and according to the fruit of his doings;

‘ El es grande en consejo y poderoso en obras, cuyos ojos están abiertos sobre todos los caminos de los hijos de los hombres, para dar a cada uno conforme a sus caminos y conforme al fruto de sus obras.

20 w ho hast set signs and wonders in the land of Egypt, even unto this day, and in Israel, and in the man, and hast made thee a name, as at this day;

‘Tú realizaste señales y portentos en la tierra de Egipto hasta este día, y en Israel y entre los hombres, y te has hecho un nombre, como se ve hoy.

21 a nd hast brought forth thy people Israel out of the land of Egypt with signs and with wonders, and with a strong hand and with a stretched out arm and with great terror;

Sacaste a Tu pueblo Israel de la tierra de Egipto con señales y portentos, con mano fuerte y con brazo extendido y con gran terror,

22 a nd hast given them this land, which thou didst swear to their fathers to give them, a land flowing with milk and honey;

y les diste esta tierra, que habías jurado dar a sus padres, tierra que mana leche y miel.

23 a nd they came in and possessed it; but they did not hear thy voice, neither did they walk in thy law; they have done nothing of all that thou didst command them to do, therefore thou hast caused all this evil to come upon them.

Ellos entraron y tomaron posesión de ella, pero no obedecieron Tu voz ni anduvieron en Tu ley. No hicieron nada de todo lo que les mandaste hacer; por tanto Tú has hecho venir sobre ellos toda esta calamidad.

24 B ehold the siege engines are come unto the city to take it; and the city is given into the hand of the Chaldeans that fight against it because of the sword and of the famine and of the pestilence, and what thou hast spoken is come to pass; and, behold, thou dost see it.

Los terraplenes de asalto han llegado a la ciudad para tomarla. La ciudad va a ser entregada en manos de los Caldeos que pelean contra ella, por causa de la espada, el hambre y la pestilencia. Lo que habías hablado ha venido a ser, y Tú lo estás viendo.

25 A nd thou hast said unto me, O Lord GOD, Buy the field for money and take witnesses; and the city is given into the hand of the Chaldeans.

Tú me has dicho, oh Señor Dios: “Cómprate el campo con dinero, y llama testigos”; aunque la ciudad sea entregada en manos de los Caldeos.’”

26 ¶ Then came the word of the LORD unto Jeremiah, saying,

Entonces vino palabra del Señor a Jeremías:

27 B ehold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh: peradventure shall any thing be covered unto me?

“Yo soy el Señor, el Dios de toda carne, ¿habrá algo imposible para Mí ?”

28 T herefore thus hath the LORD said; Behold, I give this city into the hand of the Chaldeans, and into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and he shall take it:

Por tanto, así dice el Señor: “Voy a entregar esta ciudad en mano de los Caldeos y en mano de Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, y él la tomará.

29 a nd the Chaldeans, that fight against this city, shall come and set fire on this city, and burn it with the houses, upon whose roofs they have offered incense unto Baal, and poured out drink offerings unto other gods, to provoke me to anger.

Los Caldeos que atacan esta ciudad entrarán y prenderán fuego a la ciudad y la quemarán, junto con las casas en las que han ofrecido incienso a Baal sobre sus terrazas y han derramado libaciones a otros dioses para provocarme a ira.

30 F or the sons of Israel and the sons of Judah have done only evil before me from their youth: for the sons of Israel have only provoked me to anger with the work of their hands, said the LORD.

Porque los Israelitas y los hijos de Judá sólo han hecho lo malo ante Mis ojos desde su juventud. Ciertamente los Israelitas no han hecho más que provocarme a ira con la obra de sus manos,” declara el Señor.

31 F or this city has been unto me as a provocation of my anger and of my fury from the day that they built it even unto this day; that I should remove it from before my face

“Porque motivo de Mi ira y de Mi furor ha sido esta ciudad para Mí, desde el día en que la edificaron hasta hoy, de modo que será quitada de Mi presencia

32 b ecause of all the evil of the sons of Israel and of the sons of Judah, which they have done to provoke me to anger, they, their kings, their princes, their priests, and their prophets, and the men of Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

por todo el mal que los Israelitas y los hijos de Judá hicieron para provocarme a ira, ellos, sus reyes, sus jefes, sus sacerdotes, sus profetas, los hombres de Judá y los habitantes de Jerusalén.

33 A nd they have turned unto me the back and not the face: when I taught them, rising up early and teaching them, yet they did not hearken to receive chastisement;

Ellos Me dieron la espalda, y no el rostro. Aunque les enseñaba, enseñándoles una y otra vez, no escucharon ni aceptaron corrección,

34 b ut they set their abominations in the house, which is called by my name, to defile it.

sino que pusieron sus abominaciones en la casa que es llamada por Mi nombre, profanándola.

35 A nd they built altars unto Baal, which are in the valley of the son of Hinnom, to cause their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire unto Molech; which I did not command them, neither did it come into my mind, that they should do this abomination, to cause Judah to sin.

También edificaron los lugares altos de Baal que están en el Valle de Ben Hinom, para hacer pasar por el fuego a sus hijos y a sus hijas en honor de Moloc. Esto nunca les había mandado, ni Me pasó por la mente que ellos cometieran tal abominación, para hacer que Judá pecara.

36 A nd now therefore thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel, unto this city, of which ye say, It shall be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon by the sword, and by the famine and by the pestilence;

“Ahora pues, así dice el Señor, Dios de Israel, en cuanto a esta ciudad de la cual ustedes dicen: ‘Va a ser entregada en mano del rey de Babilonia por la espada, por el hambre y por la pestilencia.’

37 b ehold, I will gather them out of all countries where I have driven them in my anger, in my fury and in great wrath; and I will bring them again unto this place, and I will cause them to dwell safely:

Yo los reuniré de todas las tierras a las cuales los he echado en Mi ira, en Mi furor y con gran enojo, y los haré volver a este lugar y los haré morar seguros.

38 a nd they shall be my people, and I will be their God:

Ellos serán Mi pueblo, y Yo seré su Dios;

39 a nd I will give them one heart and one way, that they may fear me for ever for the good of them and of their sons after them:

y les daré un solo corazón y un solo camino, para que Me teman siempre, para bien de ellos y de sus hijos después de ellos.

40 a nd I will make an eternal covenant with them, that I will not turn away from doing them good, and I will put my fear in their hearts that they shall not depart from me.

Haré con ellos un pacto eterno, de que Yo no me apartaré de ellos para hacerles bien, e infundiré Mi temor en sus corazones para que no se aparten de Mí.

41 A nd, I will rejoice with them doing them good, and I will plant them in this land with truth, with my whole heart and with my whole soul.

Me regocijaré en ellos haciéndoles bien, y ciertamente los plantaré en esta tierra, con todo Mi corazón y con toda Mi alma.

42 F or thus hath the LORD said; Like as I have brought all this great evil upon this people, so will I bring upon them all the good that I speak regarding them.

Porque así dice el Señor: ‘Como he traído a este pueblo toda esta gran calamidad así he de traer sobre ellos todo el bien que les prometo.

43 A nd they shall possess inheritance in this land, of which ye say, It is desolate without man or beast; it is given into the hands of the Chaldeans.

Y se comprarán campos en esta tierra de la cual ustedes dicen: “Es una desolación, sin hombres ni animales; entregada está en mano de los Caldeos.”

44 M en shall buy fields for money and subscribe evidences and seal them and take witnesses in the land of Benjamin and in the places about Jerusalem and in the cities of Judah and in the cities of the mountains and in the cities of the valley and in the cities of the south; for I will cause their captivity to turn, saith the LORD.

La gente comprará campos por dinero, firmarán y sellarán escrituras y llamarán a testigos, en la tierra de Benjamín, en los alrededores de Jerusalén, en las ciudades de Judá, en las ciudades de la región montañosa, en las ciudades de la llanura y en las ciudades del Neguev (región del sur), porque restauraré su bienestar,’” declara el Señor.
