1 ¶ Then they told David, saying, Behold, the Philistines fight against Keilah, and they rob the threshingfloors.

Entonces dieron aviso a David: “Los Filisteos están atacando a Keila, y están saqueando las eras.”

2 T herefore David enquired of the LORD, saying, Shall I go and smite these Philistines? And the LORD said unto David, Go and smite the Philistines and save Keilah.

Entonces consultó David al Señor: “¿Debo ir a atacar a estos Filisteos?” Y el Señor dijo a David: “Ve, ataca a los Filisteos y libra a Keila.”

3 B ut David’s men said unto him, Behold, we are afraid here in Judah, how much more than if we go to Keilah against the army of the Philistines?

Pero los hombres de David le dijeron: “Mira, estamos con temor aquí en Judá. ¿Cuánto más si vamos a Keila contra las filas de los Filisteos?”

4 T hen David enquired of the LORD yet again. And the LORD answered him and said, Arise, go down to Keilah, for I will deliver the Philistines into thy hand.

De nuevo David consultó al Señor; y el Señor le respondió: “Levántate, desciende a Keila, pues entregaré a los Filisteos en tu mano.”

5 S o David and his men went to Keilah and fought with the Philistines and brought away their livestock and smote them with a great slaughter. So David saved the inhabitants of Keilah.

Y David y sus hombres fueron a Keila y pelearon contra los Filisteos; y él se llevó sus ganados y los hirió con gran mortandad. Así libró David a los habitantes de Keila. Saúl Persigue a David

6 A nd it came to pass when Abiathar, the son of Ahimelech, fled to David to Keilah that the ephod came in his hand.

Al huir Abiatar, hijo de Ahimelec, a donde estaba David en Keila, descendió con un efod en la mano.

7 ¶ And it was told Saul how David had come to Keilah. And Saul said, God has delivered him into my hand, for he is shut in by entering into a town that has gates and bars.

Cuando se avisó a Saúl que David había ido a Keila, Saúl dijo: “Dios lo ha entregado en mi mano, pues se ha encerrado entrando en una ciudad con puertas dobles y barras.”

8 A nd Saul called all the people together to war, to go down to Keilah, to besiege David and his men.

Y Saúl convocó a todo el pueblo a la guerra, para descender a Keila a fin de cercar a David y sus hombres.

9 B ut David understood that Saul devised evil against him, and he said to Abiathar, the priest, Bring here the ephod.

David supo que Saúl tramaba el mal contra él; así que le dijo al sacerdote Abiatar: “Trae el efod.”

10 T hen David said, O LORD God of Israel, thy slave has certainly heard that Saul seeks to come to Keilah, to destroy the city for my sake.

Entonces David dijo: “Oh Señor, Dios de Israel, Tu siervo ciertamente ha oído que Saúl procura venir a Keila para destruir la ciudad por causa mía.

11 W ill the men of Keilah deliver me up into his hand? Will Saul come down as thy slave has heard? O LORD God of Israel, I beseech thee, tell thy slave. And the LORD said, He will come down.

¿Me entregarán en su mano los hombres de Keila? ¿Descenderá Saúl tal como Tu siervo ha oído? Oh Señor, Dios de Israel, Te ruego que lo hagas saber a Tu siervo.” Y el Señor dijo: “ Sí, descenderá.”

12 T hen David said, Will the men of Keilah deliver me and my men into the hand of Saul? And the LORD said, They will deliver thee up.

Entonces David dijo: “¿Me entregarán los hombres de Keila a mí y a mis hombres en manos de Saúl?” Y el Señor dijo: “ Sí, los entregarán.”

13 S o David and his men, who were about six hundred, arose and departed out of Keilah and went from one place to another. And it was told Saul that David was escaped from Keilah, and he forbare to go forth.

Se levantó, pues, David con sus hombres, como 600, y salieron de Keila y anduvieron de un lugar a otro. Cuando a Saúl le informaron que David se había escapado de Keila, cesó de perseguirlo.

14 ¶ And David abode in the wilderness in strong holds and remained in a mountain in the wilderness of Ziph. And Saul sought him every day, but God did not deliver him into his hand.

David se quedó en el desierto en los refugios, y permaneció en la región montañosa en el desierto de Zif. Saúl lo buscaba todos los días, pero Dios no lo entregó en su mano.

15 A nd David, seeing that Saul had come out to seek his soul, stayed in the woods in the wilderness of Ziph.

Y David se enteró de que Saúl había salido para quitarle la vida, y David se encontraba en el desierto de Zif, en Hores.

16 T hen Jonathan, Saul’s son, arose and went to David in the woods and strengthened his hand in God.

Jonatán, hijo de Saúl, se levantó y fue a donde estaba David en Hores, y lo fortaleció en Dios.

17 A nd he said unto him, Do not fear, for the hand of Saul, my father, shall not find thee, and thou shalt be king over Israel, and I shall be next unto thee; and even my father knows this.

Y le dijo: “No temas, porque la mano de Saúl mi padre no te encontrará, y tú reinarás sobre Israel y yo seré segundo después de ti; Saúl mi padre también sabe esto.”

18 A nd the two made a covenant before the LORD, and David abode in the woods, and Jonathan returned to his house.

Hicieron los dos un pacto delante del Señor; y David permaneció en Hores mientras Jonatán se fue a su casa.

19 ¶ Then those of Ziph came to Saul to Gibeah, saying, Does not David hide himself with us in strong holds in the woods in the hill of Hachilah, which is on the right hand side of the wilderness?

Entonces subieron los de Zif a Saúl en Guibeá y dijeron: “¿No está David escondido entre nosotros en los refugios de Hores, en la colina de Haquila que está al sur de Jesimón (del desierto)?

20 N ow, therefore, O king, come down according to all the desire of thy soul to come down, and our part shall be to deliver him into the king’s hand.

Ahora bien, oh rey, usted descienda conforme a todo el deseo de su alma para hacerlo; y nuestra parte será entregarlo en manos del rey.”

21 A nd Saul said, Blessed are ye of the LORD, for ye have compassion on me.

Y Saúl dijo: “Benditos sean del Señor, porque se compadecieron de mí.

22 G o, I pray you, prepare yet and know and see his place where he places his foot and who has seen him there, for it is told me that he deals with great prudence.

Vayan ahora, asegúrense, investiguen y vean dónde está su escondite, y quién lo ha visto allí, porque me han dicho que es muy astuto.

23 S ee, therefore, and take knowledge of all the hiding places where he hides himself and come again to me with the certainty, and I will go with you; and it shall come to pass, if he is in the land that I will search him out with all the thousands of Judah.

Miren entonces, reconozcan todos los escondites donde se oculta, regresen a mí cuando estén seguros, y yo iré con ustedes; y sucederá que si estuviera en la tierra, voy a hallarlo entre todos los miles de Judá.”

24 A nd they arose and went to Ziph before Saul, but David and his men were in the wilderness of Maon in the plain on the right hand side of the wilderness.

Ellos se levantaron y fueron a Zif delante de Saúl. Y David y sus hombres estaban en el desierto de Maón, en el Arabá, al sur de Jesimón.

25 S aul also and his men went to seek him. And they told David, and he came down from there into a rock and abode in the wilderness of Maon. And when Saul heard that, he pursued after David in the wilderness of Maon.

Saúl fue con sus hombres a buscar lo, pero le avisaron a David, y éste bajó a la peña y permaneció en el desierto de Maón. Cuando Saúl lo supo, persiguió a David en el desierto de Maón.

26 A nd Saul went on this side of the mountain, and David and his men on that side of the mountain; and David made haste to get away from the presence of Saul, for Saul and his men compassed David and his men round about to take them.

Saúl iba por un lado del monte y David y sus hombres por el otro lado del monte. David se apresuraba para huir de Saúl, pues Saúl y sus hombres estaban rodeando a David y a sus hombres para apresarlos.

27 B ut there came a messenger unto Saul, saying, Make haste and come, for the Philistines have invaded the land.

Pero un mensajero vino a Saúl diciendo: Apresúrese y venga, pues los Filisteos han hecho una incursión en la tierra.

28 S aul returned, therefore, from pursuing after David and went against the Philistines. For this reason they called that place Selahammahlekoth.

Regresó entonces Saúl, dejando de perseguir a David, y fue al encuentro de los Filisteos. Por eso llamaron a aquel lugar la Peña de Escape.

29 A nd David went up from there and dwelt in strong holds at Engedi.

Y subió David de allí, y permaneció en los refugios de En Gadi.
