1 ¶ These are also proverbs of Solomon, which the men of Hezekiah king of Judah copied out.

También éstos son proverbios de Salomón, que transcribieron los hombres de Ezequías, rey de Judá:

2 ¶ It is the glory of God to conceal the word, but the honour of kings is to search out the word.

Es gloria de Dios encubrir una cosa, Pero la gloria de los reyes es investigar un asunto.

3 F or the height of the heavens and depth of the earth and for the heart of kings, there is no investigation.

Como la altura de los cielos y la profundidad de la tierra, Así es el corazón de los reyes, inescrutable.

4 ¶ Take away the dross from the silver, and a vessel shall come forth for the finer.

Quita la escoria de la plata, Y saldrá un vaso para el orfebre;

5 T ake away the wicked from before the king, and his throne shall be established in righteousness.

Quita al malo de delante del rey, Y su trono se afianzará en la justicia.

6 ¶ Do not praise thyself in the presence of the king, and do not stand in the place of great men;

No hagas ostentación ante el rey, Y no te pongas en el lugar de los grandes;

7 f or it is better that it be said unto thee, Come up here than that thou should be put lower in the presence of the prince whom thine eyes have seen.

Porque es mejor que te digan: “Sube acá,” A que te humillen delante del príncipe A quien tus ojos han visto.

8 ¶ Do not go forth hastily to strive lest thou know not what to do in the end thereof when thy neighbour has put thee to shame.

No te apresures a presentar pleito; Pues ¿qué harás al final, Cuando tu prójimo te avergüence?

9 D ebate thy cause with thy neighbour himself and do not uncover the secret to another

Discute tu caso con tu prójimo Y no descubras el secreto de otro,

10 l est he that hears it put thee to shame and thine infamy not turn away.

No sea que te reproche el que lo oiga Y tu mala fama no se acabe.

11 ¶ A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold inscribed with silver.

Como manzanas de oro en engastes de plata Es la palabra dicha a su tiempo.

12 A s an earring of gold and an ornament of fine gold, so is he who reproves a wise man who has a docile ear.

Como pendiente de oro y adorno de oro fino Es el sabio que reprende al oído atento.

13 ¶ As the cold of snow in the time of harvest, so is a faithful messenger to those that send him, for he refreshes the soul of his master.

Como frescura de nieve en tiempo de la siega Es el mensajero fiel para los que lo envían, Porque refresca el alma de sus señores.

14 ¶ Whosoever boasts in a gift of falsehood is like clouds and wind without rain.

Como las nubes y el viento sin lluvia Es el hombre que se jacta falsamente de sus dones.

15 ¶ By long forbearing a prince is persuaded, and a soft tongue breaks the bones.

Con la mucha paciencia se persuade al príncipe, Y la lengua suave quebranta los huesos.

16 ¶ Hast thou found honey? eat so much as is sufficient for thee lest thou be filled therewith, and vomit it.

¿Has hallado miel ? Come sólo lo que necesites, No sea que te hartes y la vomites.

17 ¶ Withdraw thy foot from thy neighbour’s house lest he be weary of thee and so hate thee.

No frecuente tu pie la casa de tu vecino, No sea que él se hastíe de ti y te aborrezca.

18 ¶ A man that bears false witness against his neighbour is a maul and a sword and a sharp arrow.

Como mazo y espada y flecha aguda Es el hombre que levanta falso testimonio contra su prójimo.

19 ¶ Confidence in an unfaithful man in time of trouble is like a broken tooth, and a foot out of joint.

Como diente malo y pie que resbala Es la confianza en el hombre engañador en tiempo de angustia.

20 ¶ As he that takes away a garment in cold weather and as vinegar upon soap, so is he that sings songs to a heavy heart.

Como el que se quita la ropa en día de frío, o como el vinagre sobre la lejía, Es el que canta canciones a un corazón afligido.

21 ¶ If thy enemy is hungry, give him bread to eat, and if he is thirsty, give him water to drink,

Si tu enemigo tiene hambre, dale de comer pan, Y si tiene sed, dale a beber agua;

22 f or thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the LORD shall reward thee.

Porque así amontonarás brasas sobre su cabeza, Y el Señor te recompensará.

23 ¶ The north wind drives away rain, so does an angry countenance a backbiting tongue.

El viento del norte trae la lluvia, Y la lengua murmuradora, el semblante lleno de ira.

24 ¶ It is better to dwell in the corner of the housetop than with a brawling woman and in a wide house.

Mejor es vivir en un rincón del terrado Que en una casa con mujer rencillosa.

25 ¶ As cold waters to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country.

Como agua fría para el alma sedienta, Así son las buenas nuevas de una tierra lejana.

26 ¶ A righteous man falling down before the wicked is as a troubled fountain and a corrupt spring.

Como manantial turbio y pozo contaminado Es el justo que cede ante el impío.

27 ¶ It is not good to eat much honey, so for men to search their own glory is not glory.

No es bueno comer mucha miel, Ni el buscar la propia gloria es gloria.

28 ¶ The man whose spirit has no restraint is like a city that is broken down and without walls.

Como ciudad invadida y sin murallas Es el hombre que no domina su espíritu.
