1 ¶ The former treatise I have made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach,

En el primer relato, estimado Teófilo, escribí acerca de todo lo que Jesús comenzó a hacer y a enseñar,

2 u ntil the day in which, having given commandments by the Holy Spirit unto the apostles whom he had chosen, he was received on high;

hasta el día en que fue recibido arriba en el cielo, después de que por el Espíritu Santo El había dado instrucciones a los apóstoles que había escogido.

3 u nto whom he also showed himself alive, after he had suffered, by many infallible proofs, appearing unto them for forty days and speaking to them of the kingdom of God;

A éstos también, después de Su padecimiento, se presentó vivo con muchas pruebas convincentes, apareciéndoseles durante cuarenta días y hablándoles de lo relacionado con el reino de Dios.

4 a nd gathering them together, he commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, Which, he said, ye have heard of me.

Y reuniéndolos, les mandó que no salieran de Jerusalén (Ciudad de Paz), sino que esperaran la promesa del Padre: “La cual,” les dijo, “oyeron de Mí;

5 F or John truly baptized in water, but ye shall be baptized in the Holy Spirit not many days from now.

porque Juan bautizó con agua, pero ustedes serán bautizados con el Espíritu Santo dentro de pocos días.” La Ascensión

6 ¶ Then those that were come together asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?

Entonces los que estaban reunidos, Le preguntaban: “Señor, ¿restaurarás en este tiempo el reino a Israel?”

7 A nd he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father has put under his authority only.

Jesús les contestó: “No les corresponde a ustedes saber los tiempos ni las épocas que el Padre ha fijado con Su propia autoridad;

8 B ut ye shall receive the virtue of the Holy Spirit which shall come upon you, and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem and in all Judaea and in Samaria and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

pero recibirán poder cuando el Espíritu Santo venga sobre ustedes; y serán Mis testigos en Jerusalén, en toda Judea y Samaria, y hasta los confines de la tierra.”

9 A nd when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.

Después de haber dicho estas cosas, fue elevado mientras ellos miraban, y una nube Lo recibió y Lo ocultó de sus ojos.

10 A nd while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel,

Mientras Jesús ascendía, estando ellos mirando fijamente al cielo, se les presentaron dos hombres en vestiduras blancas,

11 w ho also said, Ye men of Galilee, what do ye stand gazing at up into heaven? This same Jesus, who is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.

que les dijeron: “Varones Galileos, ¿por qué están mirando al cielo? Este mismo Jesús, que ha sido tomado de ustedes al cielo, vendrá de la misma manera, tal como Lo han visto ir al cielo.” En el Aposento Alto

12 ¶ Then they returned unto Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is from Jerusalem a sabbath day’s journey.

Entonces los discípulos regresaron a Jerusalén desde el monte llamado de los Olivos, que está cerca de Jerusalén, camino de un día de reposo (1. 2 km).

13 A nd when they were come in, they went up into an upper room, where Peter and James and John and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus and Simon Zelotes, and Judas the brother of James were.

Cuando hubieron entrado en la ciudad, subieron al aposento alto donde estaban hospedados, Pedro, Juan, Jacobo (hermano de Juan) y Andrés, Felipe y Tomás, Bartolomé y Mateo, Jacobo hijo de Alfeo, Simón el Zelote y Judas, hijo de Jacobo.

14 T hese all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women and Mary, the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.

Todos éstos estaban unánimes, entregados de continuo a la oración junto con las mujeres, y con María la madre de Jesús, y con Sus hermanos. La Suerte de Judas y la Elección de Matías

15 ¶ And in those days Peter stood up in the midst of the disciples and said (the number of names together were about one hundred and twenty),

Por este tiempo, un grupo como de ciento veinte personas estaba reunido allí, y Pedro se puso de pie en medio de los hermanos, y dijo:

16 M en and brethren, this scripture must needs have been fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit by the mouth of David spoke before concerning Judas, who was guide to those that took Jesus.

“Hermanos, tenía que cumplirse la Escritura en que por boca de David el Espíritu Santo predijo acerca de Judas (Iscariote), el que se hizo guía de los que prendieron a Jesús.

17 F or he was numbered with us, and had obtained a lot or inheritance of this ministry.

Porque Judas era contado entre nosotros y recibió parte en este ministerio.”

18 H e, therefore, purchased a field with the reward of his iniquity; and hanging himself, he burst asunder in the midst, and all his bowels gushed out.

Este, pues, con el precio de su terrible infamia (iniquidad) adquirió un terreno, y cayendo de cabeza se reventó por el medio, y todas sus entrañas se derramaron.

19 A nd it was known unto all the dwellers of Jerusalem, in such a manner that the field is called in their proper tongue, Aceldama, that is to say, The field of blood.

Esto llegó al conocimiento de todos los que habitaban en Jerusalén, de manera que aquel terreno se llamó en su propia lengua Acéldama, es decir, campo de sangre.

20 F or it is written in the book of Psalms, Let his habitation be desolate, and let no one dwell therein, and let another take his office.

Pues en el Libro de los Salmos está escrito: “ Que sea hecha desierta su morada, y no haya quien habite en ella; Y: Que otro tome su cargo.”

21 I t behooves, therefore, of these men who have accompanied us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us,

Por tanto, es necesario que de los hombres que nos han acompañado todo el tiempo que el Señor Jesús vivió entre nosotros,

22 b eginning from the baptism of John unto that same day that he was received on high from among us, that one must be ordained to be a witness with us of his resurrection.

comenzando desde el bautismo de Juan, hasta el día en que de entre nosotros Jesús fue recibido arriba al cielo, uno sea constituido testigo con nosotros de Su resurrección.”

23 A nd they appointed two, Joseph called Barsabas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias.

Presentaron a dos: a José, llamado Barsabás, al que también llamaban Justo, y a Matías.

24 A nd they prayed and said, Thou, Lord, who knowest the hearts of everyone, show which of these two thou hast chosen,

Después de orar, dijeron: “Tú, Señor, que conoces el corazón de todos, muéstra nos a cuál de estos dos has escogido

25 t hat he may take the lot or inheritance of this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas rebelled that he might go to his own place.

para ocupar (tomar el lugar de) este ministerio y apostolado, del cual Judas se desvió para irse al lugar que le correspondía.”

26 A nd they gave forth their lots, and the lot fell upon Matthias, and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.

Echaron suertes y la suerte cayó sobre Matías, y fue contado (escogido) con los once apóstoles.
