1 ¶ Come down, and sit in the dust, O virgin daughter of Babylon; sit on the ground, without a throne, O daughter of the Chaldeans; for thou shalt no longer be called tender and delicate.

Desciende y siéntate en el polvo, Virgen hija de Babilonia. Siéntate en la tierra, sin trono, Hija de los Caldeos, Porque nunca más serás llamada tierna y delicada.

2 T ake the millstones and grind meal; uncover thy locks, remove the shoes from thy feet, uncover the thigh, pass over the rivers.

Toma las piedras de molino y muele la harina. Quítate el velo, despójate de la falda, Descubre tus piernas, pasa los ríos.

3 T hy nakedness shall be uncovered and thy shame shall be seen; I will take vengeance, and I will not help any man.

Será descubierta tu desnudez, También será expuesta tu vergüenza. Tomaré venganza y no perdonaré a hombre alguno.

4 A s for our redeemer, the LORD of the hosts is his name, the Holy One of Israel.

Nuestro Redentor, el Señor de los ejércitos es Su nombre, El Santo de Israel.

5 S it, be silent, and go into darkness, O daughter of the Chaldeans; for thou shalt no longer be called, The lady of kingdoms.

Siéntate en silencio y entra en las tinieblas, Hija de los Caldeos, Porque nunca más te llamarán Soberana de reinos.

6 I was wroth with my people; I have profaned my inheritance and given them into thine hand; thou didst show them no mercy; upon the ancient thou hast very heavily laid thy yoke.

Estaba enojado contra Mi pueblo, Profané Mi heredad Y en tu mano los entregué. No les mostraste compasión, Sobre el anciano hiciste muy pesado tu yugo,

7 ¶ And thou didst say, I shall be a lady for ever. Until now thou hast not laid these things to heart, neither didst thou remember thy latter end.

Y dijiste: ‘Seré soberana para siempre.’ No consideraste esto en tu corazón, Ni te acordaste de su resultado.

8 T herefore now hear this, thou delicate one, that dost sit in confidence and say in thine heart, I am, and no one else beside me; I shall not sit as a widow, neither shall I be fatherless.

Ahora pues, oye esto, voluptuosa, Tú que moras confiadamente, Que dices en tu corazón: ‘Yo, y nadie más. No me quedaré viuda, Ni sabré de pérdida de hijos.’

9 B ut these two things shall come to thee in a moment in one day; the loss of thy fathers and widowhood: they shall come upon thee in their perfection for the multitude of thy sorceries and for the great abundance of thine enchantments.

Pero estas dos cosas vendrán de repente sobre ti en un mismo día: Pérdida de hijos y viudez. Vendrán sobre ti en toda su plenitud A pesar de tus muchas hechicerías, A pesar del gran poder de tus encantamientos.

10 F or thou hast trusted in thy wickedness: thou hast said, No one sees me. Thy wisdom and thine own knowledge; it has deceived thee; for thou hast said in thine heart, I am, and no one else beside me.

Te sentiste segura en tu maldad y dijiste: ‘Nadie me ve.’ Tu sabiduría y tu conocimiento te han engañado, Y dijiste en tu corazón: ‘Yo, y nadie más.’

11 T herefore shall evil come upon thee; thou shalt not know from where it rises; and mischief shall fall upon thee; thou shalt not be able to put it off: and destruction shall come upon thee suddenly, which thou shalt not know.

Pero un mal vendrá sobre ti Que no sabrás impedir; Caerá sobre ti un desastre Que no podrás remediar. Vendrá de repente sobre ti Una destrucción que no conoces.

12 S tand now with thine enchantments and with the multitude of thy sorceries in which thou hast laboured from thy youth; if so be thou shalt be able to better thyself, if so be thou may prevail.

Permanece ahora en tus encantamientos Y en tus muchas hechicerías En las cuales te has ocupado desde tu juventud. Tal vez podrás sacar provecho, Tal vez causarás temor.

13 T hou art wearied in the multitude of thy counsels. Let now those that contemplate the heavens, those that speculate regarding the stars, those that teach the courses of the moon, stand up and defend thee from these things that shall come upon thee.

Estás fatigada por los muchos consejos. Que se levanten ahora los que contemplan los cielos (los astrólogos), Los que profetizan por medio de las estrellas, Los que pronostican cada luna nueva, Y te salven de lo que vendrá sobre ti.

14 B ehold, they shall be as stubble; the fire shall burn them; they shall not deliver their lives from the hand of the flame; there shall not be a coal left to warm at, nor light to sit before it.

Ellos se han vuelto como rastrojo, El fuego los quema; No librarán sus vidas del poder de la llama. No habrá brasas para calentarse, Ni lumbre ante la cual sentarse.

15 T hus shall they be unto thee with whom thou hast laboured, even thy merchants, from thy youth: they shall wander each one to his own way; there shall be no one to save thee.

Así han venido a ser para ti aquéllos con quienes has trabajado, Que han negociado contigo desde tu juventud. Cada cual vaga por su camino, No hay nadie que te salve.
