1 ¶ And Jacob lifted up his eyes, and saw, and, behold, Esau came and with him four hundred men. And he divided the children unto Leah and unto Rachel and unto the two handmaids.

Cuando Jacob alzó los ojos, vio que Esaú venía y 400 hombres con él. Entonces dividió a los niños entre Lea y Raquel y las dos siervas.

2 A nd he put the handmaids and their children in front, and Leah and her children next, and Rachel and Joseph last.

Puso a las siervas con sus hijos delante, a Lea con sus hijos después, y a Raquel con José en último lugar.

3 A nd he passed over in front of them and bowed himself to the ground seven times until he came near to his brother.

Entonces Jacob se les adelantó, y se inclinó hasta el suelo siete veces hasta que llegó cerca de su hermano.

4 A nd Esau ran to meet him and embraced him and fell on his neck and kissed him, and they wept.

Esaú corrió a su encuentro y lo abrazó, y echándose sobre su cuello lo besó, y ambos lloraron.

5 ¶ And he lifted up his eyes and saw the women and the children and said, Who are those with thee? And he said, The children whom God hath graciously given thy slave.

Esaú alzó sus ojos y vio a las mujeres y a los niños, y dijo: “¿Quiénes son éstos que vienen contigo? ” “Son los hijos que Dios en su misericordia ha concedido a tu siervo,” respondió Jacob.

6 T hen the handmaidens came near, they and their children, and they bowed themselves.

Entonces se acercaron las siervas con sus hijos, y se inclinaron.

7 A nd Leah also with her children came near and bowed themselves; and after came Joseph near and Rachel, and they also bowed themselves.

Lea también se acercó con sus hijos, y se inclinaron. Después José se acercó con Raquel, y se inclinaron.

8 A nd he said, What meanest thou by all these droves which I met? And he said, To find grace in the sight of my lord.

“¿Qué te propones con toda esta muchedumbre que he encontrado ?” preguntó Esaú. “Hallar gracia ante los ojos de mi señor, ” respondió Jacob.

9 A nd Esau said, I have enough, my brother; keep what thou hast unto thyself.

Pero Esaú dijo: “Tengo bastante, hermano mío. Sea tuyo lo que es tuyo.”

10 A nd Jacob said, No, I pray thee, if now I have found grace in thy sight, then receive my present from my hand, that for this I have seen thy face as though I had seen the face of God; and do me the pleasure.

Pero Jacob respondió: “No, te ruego que si ahora he hallado gracia ante tus ojos, tomes el presente de mi mano, porque veo tu rostro como uno ve el rostro de Dios, y me has recibido favorablemente.

11 T ake, I pray thee, my blessing that is brought to thee because God has dealt graciously with me, and all that is here is mine. And he urged him, and he took it.

Acepta, te ruego, el presente que se te ha traído, pues Dios me ha favorecido, y porque yo tengo mucho.” Y le insistió, y él lo aceptó.

12 A nd he said, Let us take our journey, and let us go, and I will go before thee.

Entonces Esaú dijo: “Pongámonos en marcha y vámonos; yo iré delante de ti.”

13 A nd he said unto him, My lord knows that the children are tender, and the sheep and cows with young are with me; and if men should overdrive them, in one day all the sheep will die.

Pero él le dijo: “Mi señor sabe que los niños son tiernos, y que debo cuidar de las ovejas y las vacas que están criando. Si los apuramos mucho, en un solo día todos los rebaños morirán.

14 L et my lord, I pray thee, pass before his slave; and I will lead on softly, according as the property that goes before me and the children are able to endure until I come unto my lord unto Seir.

Adelántese ahora mi señor a su siervo; y yo avanzaré sin prisa, al paso del ganado que va delante de mí, y al paso de los niños, hasta que llegue a mi señor en Seir.”

15 A nd Esau said, Let me now leave with thee some of the folk that are with me. And he said, What for? Let me find grace in the sight of my lord.

Y Esaú dijo: “Permíteme dejarte parte de la gente que está conmigo.” “¿Para qué? Halle yo gracia ante los ojos de mi señor,” le respondió Jacob.

16 ¶ So Esau returned that day on his way unto Seir.

Aquel mismo día regresó Esaú por su camino a Seir.

17 A nd Jacob journeyed to Succoth and built himself a house and made booths for his livestock; therefore the name of the place is called Succoth.

Jacob siguió hasta Sucot. Allí se edificó una casa e hizo cobertizos para su ganado. Por eso al lugar se le puso el nombre de Sucot. Jacob en Siquem

18 A nd Jacob came safe and sound to the city of Shechem, which is in the land of Canaan, when he came from Padanaram, and pitched his tent before the city.

Jacob llegó sin novedad a la ciudad de Siquem, que está en la tierra de Canaán, cuando vino de Padán Aram, y acampó frente a la ciudad.

19 A nd he bought part of the field where he had spread his tent, from the hand of the sons of Hamor, Shechem’s father, for one hundred ewes.

Y la parcela de campo donde había plantado su tienda se la compró a los hijos de Hamor, padre de Siquem, por 100 monedas (100 siclos, 1140 gr de plata).

20 A nd there he erected an altar, and called it Elelohe-Israel (the Strong God of Israel).

Allí levantó un altar, y lo llamó: El Elohe Israel (Dios, el Dios de Israel).
