1 ¶ And it shall come to pass if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the LORD thy God to keep and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the LORD thy God will set thee on high above all the Gentiles of the earth;

“ Y sucederá que si obedeces diligentemente al Señor tu Dios, cuidando de cumplir todos Sus mandamientos que yo te mando hoy, el Señor tu Dios te pondrá en alto sobre todas las naciones de la tierra.

2 a nd all these blessings shall come upon thee and overtake thee when thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God.

Y todas estas bendiciones vendrán sobre ti y te alcanzarán, si obedeces al Señor tu Dios:

3 B lessed shalt thou be in the city and blessed shalt thou be in the field.

Bendito serás en la ciudad, y bendito serás en el campo.

4 B lessed shall be the fruit of thy body and the fruit of thy ground and the fruit of thy beasts, the increase of thy cows, and the flocks of thy sheep.

Bendito el fruto de tu vientre, el producto de tu suelo, el fruto de tu ganado, el aumento de tus vacas y las crías de tus ovejas.

5 B lessed shall be thy basket and thy store.

Benditas serán tu canasta y tu artesa.

6 B lessed shalt thou be when thou comest in, and blessed shalt thou be when thou goest out.

Bendito serás cuando entres, y bendito serás cuando salgas.

7 T he LORD shall cause thine enemies that rise up against thee to be smitten before thy face; they shall come out against thee one way and flee before thee seven ways.

“El Señor hará que los enemigos que se levanten contra ti sean derrotados delante de ti; saldrán contra ti por un camino y huirán delante de ti por siete caminos.

8 T he LORD shall command the blessing upon thee in thy storehouses and in all that thou settest thine hand unto; and he shall bless thee in the land which the LORD thy God gives thee.

El Señor mandará que la bendición sea contigo en tus graneros y en todo aquello en que pongas tu mano, y te bendecirá en la tierra que el Señor tu Dios te da.

9 T he LORD shall confirm thee as his holy people, as he has sworn unto thee, when thou shalt keep the commandments of the LORD thy God and walk in his ways.

Te establecerá el Señor como pueblo santo para sí, como te juró, si guardas los mandamientos del Señor tu Dios y andas en Sus caminos.

10 A nd all people of the earth shall see that thou art called by the name of the LORD, and they shall be afraid of thee.

Entonces verán todos los pueblos de la tierra que sobre ti es invocado el nombre del Señor; y te temerán.

11 A nd the LORD shall cause thee to have good in abundance in the fruit of thy body and in the fruit of thy beasts and in the fruit of thy ground, upon the land which the LORD swore unto thy fathers to give thee.

El Señor te hará abundar en bienes, en el fruto de tu vientre, en el fruto de tu ganado y en el producto de tu suelo, en la tierra que el Señor juró a tus padres que te daría.

12 T he LORD shall open unto thee his good treasure, the heaven, to give the rain unto thy land in its season and to bless all the work of thine hand. And thou shalt lend unto many Gentiles, and thou shalt not borrow.

El Señor abrirá para ti Su buen tesoro, los cielos, para dar lluvia a tu tierra a su tiempo y para bendecir toda la obra de tu mano; y tú prestarás a muchas naciones, pero no tomarás prestado.

13 A nd the LORD shall make thee the head, and not the tail, and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath, when thou shalt hearken unto the commandments of the LORD thy God, which I command thee this day, to keep them and to fulfill them.

El Señor te pondrá a la cabeza y no a la cola, sólo estarás encima y nunca estarás debajo, si escuchas los mandamientos del Señor tu Dios que te ordeno hoy, para que los guardes cuidadosamente.

14 A nd thou shalt not go aside from any of the words which I command thee this day to the right hand or to the left, to go after other gods to serve them.

No te desvíes de ninguna de las palabras que te ordeno hoy, ni a la derecha ni a la izquierda, para ir tras otros dioses y servirles. Consecuencias de la Desobediencia

15 ¶ And it shall come to pass if thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to keep, to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command thee today, that all these curses shall come upon thee and overtake thee.

“ Pero sucederá que si no obedeces al Señor tu Dios, y no guardas todos Sus mandamientos y estatutos que hoy te ordeno, vendrán sobre ti todas estas maldiciones y te alcanzarán:

16 C ursed shalt thou be in the city, and cursed shalt thou be in the field.

“Maldito serás en la ciudad, y maldito serás en el campo.

17 C ursed shall be thy basket and thy store.

“Malditas serán tu canasta y tu artesa.

18 C ursed shall be the fruit of thy body and the fruit of thy land, the increase of thy cows and the flocks of thy sheep.

“Maldito el fruto de tu vientre y el producto de tu suelo, el aumento de tu ganado y las crías de tu rebaño.

19 C ursed shalt thou be when thou comest in, and cursed shalt thou be when thou goest out.

“Maldito serás cuando entres y maldito serás cuando salgas.

20 T he LORD shall send upon thee cursing, destruction and rebuke, in all that thou settest thine hand to do, until thou art destroyed and perish quickly because of the wickedness of thy doings, by which thou hast forsaken me.

“El Señor enviará sobre ti maldición, confusión y censura en todo lo que emprendas, hasta que seas destruido y hasta que perezcas rápidamente, a causa de la maldad de tus hechos, porque Me has abandonado.

21 T he LORD shall make the pestilence cleave unto thee until he has consumed thee from off the land into which thou dost enter to inherit it.

El Señor hará que la peste se te pegue hasta que te haya consumido de sobre la tierra adonde vas a entrar para poseerla.

22 T he LORD shall smite thee with a consumption and with a fever and with an inflammation and with an extreme burning and with the sword and with blight and with mildew; and they shall pursue thee until thou perish.

Te herirá el Señor de tisis, de fiebre, de inflamación y de gran ardor, con la espada, con pestes y plagas; y te perseguirán hasta que perezcas.

23 A nd thy heavens which are over thy head shall be brass, and the earth that is under thee shall be iron.

El cielo que está encima de tu cabeza será de bronce, y la tierra que está debajo de ti, de hierro.

24 T he LORD shall make the rain of thy land dust and ashes; from the heavens it shall come down upon thee, until thou art destroyed.

El Señor hará que la lluvia de tu tierra sea polvo y ceniza; descenderá del cielo sobre ti hasta que seas destruido.

25 T he LORD shall cause thee to be smitten before thine enemies; thou shalt go out one way against them and flee seven ways before them and shalt be an object of trembling unto all the kingdoms of the earth.

El Señor hará que seas derrotado delante de tus enemigos; saldrás contra ellos por un camino, pero huirás por siete caminos delante de ellos, y serás ejemplo de terror para todos los reinos de la tierra.

26 A nd thy carcase shall be food unto all fowls of the air and unto the beasts of the earth, and there shall be no one to frighten them away.

“Y tus cadáveres serán alimento para todas las aves del cielo y para los animales de la tierra, y no habrá nadie que los espante.

27 T he LORD will smite thee with the boil of Egypt and with the hemorrhoids and with the scab and with the itch, of which thou canst not be healed.

“El Señor te herirá con los tumores de Egipto y con úlceras, sarna y comezón, de los que no podrás ser sanado.

28 T he LORD shall smite thee with madness and blindness and astonishment of heart.

Te herirá el Señor con locura, con ceguera y con turbación de corazón;

29 A nd thou shalt grope at noonday as the blind grope in the darkness, and thou shalt not be prospered in thy ways; and thou shalt only be oppressed and spoiled all the days, and there shall be no one to save thee.

y andarás a tientas a mediodía como el ciego anda a tientas en la oscuridad, y no serás prosperado en tus caminos; más bien serás oprimido y robado continuamente, sin que nadie te salve.

30 T hou shalt betroth a wife, and another man shall lie with her; thou shalt build a house, and thou shalt not dwell therein; thou shalt plant a vineyard and shalt not gather the grapes thereof.

Te desposarás con una mujer, pero otro hombre se acostará con ella; edificarás una casa, pero no habitarás en ella; plantarás una viña, pero no aprovecharás su fruto.

31 T hine ox shall be slain before thine eyes, and thou shalt not eat thereof; thine ass shall be violently taken away from before thy face and shall not be restored to thee; thy sheep shall be given unto thine enemies, and thou shalt have no one to rescue them.

Tu buey será degollado delante de tus ojos, pero no comerás de él; tu asno será arrebatado, y no te será devuelto; tu oveja será dada a tus enemigos, y no tendrás quien te salve.

32 T hy sons and thy daughters shall be given unto another people, and thine eyes shall look and fail with longing for them all the day long; and there shall be no strength in thine hand.

Tus hijos y tus hijas serán dados a otro pueblo, mientras tus ojos miran y desfallecen por ellos continuamente, pero no habrá nada que puedas hacer.

33 T he fruit of thy land and all thy labours shall a people which thou knowest not eat up; and thou shalt only be oppressed and crushed all the days.

Un pueblo que no conoces comerá el producto de tu suelo y de todo tu trabajo, y no serás más que un pueblo oprimido y quebrantado todos los días.

34 S o that thou shalt be mad for the sight of thine eyes which thou shalt see.

Y te volverás loco por lo que verán tus ojos.

35 T he LORD shall smite thee in the knees and in the legs with an evil boil that cannot be healed, from the sole of thy foot unto the top of thy head.

Te herirá el Señor en las rodillas y en las piernas con llagas malignas de las que no podrás ser sanado, desde la planta de tu pie hasta la coronilla.

36 T he LORD shall bring thee and thy king which thou shalt set over thee unto a nation which neither thou nor thy fathers have known, and there shalt thou serve other gods, even wood and stone.

El Señor te llevará a ti y a tu rey, al que hayas puesto sobre ti, a una nación que ni tú ni tus padres han conocido, y allí servirás a otros dioses de madera y de piedra.

37 A nd thou shalt become an astonishment, a proverb, and a byword among all nations where the LORD shall carry thee away.

Y vendrás a ser motivo de horror, proverbio y burla entre todos los pueblos donde el Señor te lleve.

38 T hou shalt carry much seed out into the field and shalt gather but little in, for the locust shall consume it.

“Sacarás mucha semilla al campo, pero recogerás poco, porque la langosta la devorará.

39 T hou shalt plant vineyards and dress them, but shalt neither drink of the wine nor gather the grapes, for the worms shall eat them.

Plantarás y cultivarás viñas, pero no beberás del vino ni recogerás las uvas, porque el gusano se las comerá.

40 T hou shalt have olive trees throughout all thy borders, but thou shalt not anoint thyself with the oil; for thine olive shall fall.

Tendrás olivos por todo tu territorio pero no te ungirás con el aceite, porque tus aceitunas se caerán.

41 T hou shalt beget sons and daughters, but thou shalt not enjoy them; for they shall go into captivity.

Tendrás hijos e hijas, pero no serán tuyos, porque irán al cautiverio.

42 A ll thy trees and fruit of thy land shall the locust consume.

Todos tus árboles y el fruto de tu suelo los consumirá la langosta.

43 T he stranger that is in the midst of thee shall get up above thee very high, and thou shalt come down very low.

El extranjero que esté en medio de ti se elevará sobre ti cada vez más alto, pero tú descenderás cada vez más bajo.

44 H e shall lend to thee, and thou shalt not lend to him; he shall be the head, and thou shalt be the tail.

El te prestará, pero tú no le podrás prestar. El será la cabeza y tú serás la cola.

45 ¶ Moreover all these curses shall come upon thee and shall pursue thee and overtake thee until thou art destroyed because thou shalt not have attended unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to keep his commandments and his statutes which he commanded thee;

“Todas estas maldiciones vendrán sobre ti y te perseguirán y te alcanzarán hasta que seas destruido, porque tú no escuchaste la voz del Señor tu Dios, y no guardaste los mandamientos y estatutos que El te mandó.

46 a nd they shall be in thee for a sign and for a wonder, and in thy seed for ever.

Ellas serán señal y maravilla sobre ti y sobre tu descendencia para siempre.

47 B ecause thou didst not serve the LORD thy God with joyfulness and with gladness of heart, for the abundance of all things;

Por cuanto no serviste al Señor tu Dios con alegría y con gozo de corazón, cuando tenías la abundancia de todas las cosas,

48 t herefore, thou shalt serve thine enemies which the LORD shall send against thee, in hunger and in thirst and in nakedness and in lack of all things; and he shall put a yoke of iron upon thy neck until he has destroyed thee.

por tanto servirás a tus enemigos, los cuales el Señor enviará contra ti: en hambre, en sed, en desnudez y en escasez de todas las cosas. El pondrá yugo de hierro sobre tu cuello hasta que te haya destruido.

49 T he LORD shall bring a nation against thee from afar, from the end of the earth, as swift as the eagle flies, a nation whose tongue thou shalt not understand,

“El Señor levantará contra ti una nación de lejos, desde el extremo de la tierra, que descenderá veloz como águila, una nación cuya lengua no entenderás,

50 a nation of fierce countenance, which shall not regard the person of the old nor show favour to the young;

una nación de rostro fiero que no tendrá respeto al anciano ni tendrá compasión del niño.

51 a nd he shall eat the fruit of thy beast and the fruit of thy land until thou art destroyed, which also shall not leave thee either grain, wine, or oil, or the increase of thy cows or flocks of thy sheep until he has destroyed thee.

Se comerá la cría de tu ganado y el fruto de tu suelo, hasta que seas destruido; tampoco te dejará grano, ni vino nuevo, ni aceite, ni el aumento de tu ganado, ni las crías de tu rebaño, hasta que te haya hecho perecer.

52 A nd he shall besiege thee in all thy gates until thy high and fenced walls come down, in which thou dost trust, throughout all thy land; and he shall besiege thee in all thy gates throughout all thy land, which the LORD thy God has given thee.

Y esa nación te pondrá sitio en todas tus ciudades, hasta que tus muros altos y fortificados en los cuales tú confiabas caigan por toda tu tierra; y te sitiará en todas tus ciudades, por toda la tierra que el Señor tu Dios te ha dado.

53 A nd thou shalt eat the fruit of thine own body, the flesh of thy sons and of thy daughters, which the LORD thy God has given thee, in the siege and in the straitness with which thine enemies shall distress thee.

Entonces comerás el fruto de tu vientre, la carne de tus hijos y de tus hijas que el Señor tu Dios te ha dado, en el asedio y en la angustia con que tu enemigo te oprimirá.

54 T he man that is tender among you and very delicate, his eye shall be evil toward his brother and toward the wife of his bosom and toward the remnant of his children which he shall leave,

El hombre que es tierno y muy delicado en medio de ti, será hostil hacia su hermano, hacia la mujer que ama y hacia el resto de sus hijos que le queden,

55 s o that he will not give to any of them of the flesh of his children whom he shall eat, because he shall have nothing left him in the siege and in the straitness with which thine enemies shall distress thee in all thy gates.

y no dará a ninguno de ellos nada de la carne de sus hijos que se comerá, ya que no le quedará nada en el asedio y en la angustia con que tu enemigo te oprimirá en todas tus ciudades.

56 T he tender and delicate woman among you who would not venture to set the sole of her foot upon the ground for delicateness and tenderness, her eye shall be evil toward the husband of her bosom and toward her son and toward her daughter

La mujer tierna y delicada en medio tuyo, que no osaría poner la planta de su pie en tierra por ser delicada y tierna, será hostil hacia el esposo que ama, también hacia su hijo, hacia su hija,

57 a nd toward her young one that comes out from between her feet and toward her children which she shall bear, for she shall eat them for want of all things secretly in the siege and straitness with which thine enemy shall distress thee in thy gates,

hacia la placenta que salga de su seno y hacia los hijos que dé a luz; porque se los comerá en secreto por falta de otra cosa, en el asedio y en la angustia con que tu enemigo te oprimirá en tus ciudades.

58 i f thou wilt not observe to do all the words of this law that are written in this book that thou may fear this glorious and fearful name; I AM thy God.

“Si no cuidas de poner en práctica todas las palabras de esta ley que están escritas en este libro, temiendo (reverenciando) este nombre glorioso y temible, el Señor tu Dios,

59 T hen the LORD will augment thy plagues wonderfully, and the plagues of thy seed, even great plagues and of long continuance, and evil sicknesses and of long continuance.

entonces el Señor hará horribles tus plagas y las plagas de tus descendientes, plagas severas y duraderas, y enfermedades perniciosas y crónicas.

60 M oreover, he will bring upon thee all the diseases of Egypt, which thou wast afraid of, and they shall cleave unto thee.

Y traerá de nuevo sobre ti todas las enfermedades de Egipto de las cuales tenías temor, y no te dejarán.

61 A lso every sickness and every plague, which is not written in the book of this law, the LORD will bring upon thee until thou art destroyed.

También el Señor traerá sobre ti toda enfermedad y toda plaga que no están escritas en el libro de esta ley, hasta que seas destruido.

62 A nd ye shall be left few in number, whereas ye were as the stars of heaven for multitude, because thou would not hear the voice of the LORD thy God.

Entonces quedarán pocos de ustedes en número, aunque eran multitud como las estrellas del cielo, porque no obedeciste al Señor tu Dios.

63 A nd it shall come to pass that as the LORD rejoiced over you to do you good and to multiply you; so the LORD will rejoice over you to cause you to perish and to destroy you; and ye shall be plucked from off the land into which thou dost enter in to inherit it.

Y sucederá que tal como el Señor se deleitaba en ustedes para prosperarlos y multiplicarlos, así el Señor se deleitará en ustedes para hacerlos perecer y destruirlos; y serán arrancados de la tierra en la cual entran para poseerla.

64 A nd the LORD shall scatter thee among all the peoples from the one end of the earth even unto the other; and there thou shalt serve other gods, which neither thou nor thy fathers have known, even wood and stone.

Además, el Señor te dispersará entre todos los pueblos de un extremo de la tierra hasta el otro extremo de la tierra; y allí servirás a otros dioses, de madera y de piedra, que ni tú ni tus padres han conocido.

65 N either shalt thou find rest among these Gentiles, neither shall the sole of thy foot have rest; but there the LORD shall give thee a trembling heart and failing of eyes and sorrow of soul;

Y entre esas naciones no hallarás descanso, ni habrá reposo para la planta de tu pie, sino que allí el Señor te dará un corazón temeroso, desfallecimiento de ojos y desesperación de alma.

66 a nd thy life shall hang in doubt before thee; and thou shalt fear day and night and shalt have no assurance of thy life.

Tendrás la vida pendiente de un hilo; y estarás aterrado de noche y de día, y no tendrás seguridad de tu vida.

67 I n the morning thou shalt say, I wish it were evening, and in the evening thou shalt say, I wish it were morning! For the fear of thine heart with which thou shalt fear and for that which thine eyes shall see.

Por la mañana dirás: ‘¡Oh, si fuera la tarde!’ Y por la tarde dirás: ‘¡Oh, si fuera la mañana!’ por causa del espanto de tu corazón con que temerás y por lo que verán tus ojos.

68 A nd the LORD shall bring thee into Egypt again in ships by the way of which I spoke unto thee, Thou shalt see it no more again; and there ye shall be sold unto your enemies for menslaves and womenslaves, and there shall be no one to buy you.

Y el Señor te hará volver a Egipto en naves, por el camino del cual yo te había dicho: ‘Nunca más volverás a verlo.’ Y allí ustedes se ofrecerán en venta como esclavos y esclavas a sus enemigos, pero no habrá comprador.”
