1 ¶ Having therefore left all malice and all guile and hypocrisies and envies and all murmurings,

Por tanto, desechando toda malicia, y todo engaño, e hipocresías, y envidias y toda difamación,

2 a s newborn babes, desire the rational milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby in health;

deseen como niños recién nacidos, la leche pura de la palabra, para que por ella crezcan para salvación,

3 i f so be ye have tasted that the Lord is benevolent;

si es que han probado la bondad del Señor.

4 ¶ coming unto whom (is the living Stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious),

Y viniendo a El, como a una piedra viva, desechada por los hombres, pero escogida y preciosa delante de Dios,

5 y e also, as living stones, are built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, well pleasing to God by Jesus, the Christ.

también ustedes, como piedras vivas, sean edificados como casa espiritual para un sacerdocio santo, para ofrecer sacrificios espirituales aceptables a Dios por medio de Jesucristo.

6 T herefore, also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion the chief corner stone, chosen, precious; and he that believes on him shall not be confounded.

Pues esto se encuentra en la Escritura: “ Yo, pongo en Sion una piedra escogida, una preciosa piedra angular, y el que crea en El no sera avergonzado.”

7 U nto you, therefore, who believe he is precious; but unto those who are disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner,

Este precioso valor es, pues, para ustedes los que creen; pero para los que no creen, “ La piedra que desecharon los constructores, esa, en piedra angular se ha convertido,”

8 a nd a stone of stumbling and a rock of offense, even to those who stumble at the word, not obeying in that for which they were ordained.

y, “piedra de tropiezo y roca de escandalo.” Pues ellos tropiezan porque son desobedientes a la palabra, y para ello estaban también destinados.

9 B ut ye are the chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, an acquired people, that ye should show forth the virtues of him who has called you out of darkness into his marvellous light.

Pero ustedes son linaje escogido, real sacerdocio, nación santa, pueblo adquirido para posesión de Dios, a fin de que anuncien las virtudes de Aquél que los llamó de las tinieblas a Su luz admirable.

10 Y e who in the time past were not a people, but are now the people of God, who in the time past had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.

Ustedes en otro tiempo no eran pueblo, pero ahora son el pueblo de Dios; no habían recibido misericordia, pero ahora han recibido misericordia. Conducta de los Creyentes en el Mundo

11 D early beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from the carnal desires which war against the soul

Amados, les ruego como a extranjeros y peregrinos, que se abstengan de las pasiones carnales que combaten contra el alma.

12 a nd have your honest conversation among the Gentiles, so that, in that which they murmur about you as of evildoers, having witnessed your good works, they may glorify God in the day of visitation.

Mantengan entre los Gentiles (incrédulos) una conducta irreprochable, a fin de que en aquello que les calumnian como malhechores, ellos, por razón de las buenas obras de ustedes, al considerar las, glorifiquen a Dios en el día de la visitación (del juicio).

13 ¶ Therefore, be subject to every human ordinance that is of the Lord, whether it be to a king or to a superior,

Sométanse, por causa del Señor, a toda institución humana, ya sea al rey como autoridad,

14 a nd unto governors as unto those that are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers and for the praise of those that do well.

o a los gobernadores como enviados por él para castigo de los malhechores y alabanza de los que hacen el bien.

15 F or this is the will of God, that in well doing ye may silence the ignorance of vain men,

Porque ésta es la voluntad de Dios: que haciendo bien, ustedes hagan enmudecer la ignorancia de los hombres insensatos.

16 a s being free, yet not using your liberty to cover maliciousness, but as slaves of God.

Anden como libres, pero no usen la libertad como pretexto para la maldad, sino empléenla como siervos de Dios.

17 H onour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king.

Honren a todos, amen a los hermanos, teman (reverencien) a Dios, honren al rey. Ejemplo de Cristo como Siervo

18 S ervants, be subject to your masters with all fear, not only to the good and humane, but also to the unjust.

Siervos, estén sujetos a sus amos con todo respeto, no sólo a los que son buenos y afables, sino también a los que son insoportables.

19 F or this is due to grace, if a man for conscience toward God endures grief, suffering wrongfully.

Porque esto halla gracia, si por causa de la conciencia ante Dios, alguien sobrelleva penalidades sufriendo injustamente.

20 F or what glory is it if, when ye are buffeted for your faults, ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is due to grace from God.

Pues ¿qué mérito hay, si cuando ustedes pecan y son tratados con severidad lo soportan con paciencia? Pero si cuando hacen lo bueno sufren por ello y lo soportan con paciencia, esto halla gracia con Dios.

21 B ecause for this were ye called: for the Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps

Porque para este propósito han sido llamados, pues también Cristo sufrió por ustedes, dejándoles ejemplo para que sigan Sus pasos,

22 w ho did no sin neither was guile found in his mouth,

el cual no cometio pecado, ni engaño alguno se hallo en Su boca;

23 w ho, when he was cursed, did not return the curse; when he suffered, he did not threaten, but committed himself to him that judges righteously;

y quien cuando Lo ultrajaban, no respondía ultrajando. Cuando padecía, no amenazaba, sino que se encomendaba a Aquél que juzga con justicia.

24 h e himself bore our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness; by whose wound ye were healed.

El mismo llevó (cargó) nuestros pecados en Su cuerpo sobre la cruz, a fin de que muramos al pecado y vivamos a la justicia, porque por Sus heridas fueron ustedes sanados.

25 F or ye were as sheep that had gone astray, but are now converted unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.

Pues ustedes andaban descarriados como ovejas, pero ahora han vuelto al Pastor y Guardián (Supervisor) de sus almas.
