1 I n the seventh, in the twenty and first of the month, hath a word of Jehovah been by the hand of Haggai the prophet, saying:

No segundo ano do rei Dario, no sétimo mês, ao vigésimo primeiro do mês, veio a palavra do Senhor por intermédio do profeta Ageu, dizendo:

2 ` Speak, I pray thee, unto Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and unto Joshua, son of Josedech, the high priest, and unto the remnant of the people, saying:

Fala agora ao governador de Judá, Zorobabel, filho de Sealtiel, e ao sumo sacerdote Josué, filho de Jeozadaque, e ao resto do povo, dizendo:

3 W ho among you hath been left that saw this house in its former honour? And what are ye seeing it now? Is it not, compared with it, as nothing in your eyes?

Quem há entre vós, dos sobreviventes, que viu esta casa na sua primeira glória? Em que estado a vedes agora? Não é como nada em vossos olhos?

4 A nd now, be strong, O Zerubbabel, An affirmation of Jehovah, And be strong, O Joshua, son of Josedech, the high priest, And be strong, all ye people of the land, An affirmation of Jehovah, And do ye -- (for I with you, An affirmation of Jehovah of Hosts) --

Ora, pois, esforça-te, Zorobabel, diz o Senhor, e esforça-te, sumo sacerdote Josué, filho de Jeozadaque, e esforçai-vos, todo o povo da terra, diz o Senhor, e trabalhai; porque eu sou convosco, diz o Senhor dos exércitos,

5 T he thing that I covenanted with you, In your coming forth from Egypt, And My Spirit is remaining in your midst, fear not.

segundo o pacto que fiz convosco, quando saístes do Egito, e o meu Espírito habita no meio de vós; não temais.

6 F or thus said Jehovah of Hosts: Yet once more -- it a little, And I am shaking the heavens and the earth, And the sea, and the dry land,

Pois assim diz o Senhor dos exércitos; Ainda uma vez, daqui a pouco, e abalarei os céus e a terra, o mar e a terra seca.

7 A nd I have shaken all the nations, And they have come the desire of all the nations, And I have filled this house honour, Said Jehovah of Hosts.

Abalarei todas as nações; e as coisas preciosas de todas as nações virão, e encherei de glória esta casa, diz o Senhor dos exércitos.

8 M ine the silver, and Mine the gold, An affirmation of Jehovah of Hosts.

Minha é a prata, e meu é o ouro, diz o Senhor dos exércitos.

9 G reater is the honour of this latter house, Than of the former, said Jehovah of Hosts, And in this place do I give peace, An affirmation of Jehovah of Hosts.'

A glória desta última casa será maior do que a da primeira, diz o Senhor dos exércitos; e neste lugar darei a paz, diz o Senhor dos exércitos.

10 O n the twenty and fourth of the ninth, in the second year of Darius, hath a word of Jehovah been by the hand of Haggai the prophet, saying:

Ao vigésimo quarto dia do mês nono, no segundo ano de Dario, veio a palavra do Senhor ao profeta Ageu, dizendo:

11 T hus said Jehovah of Hosts: `Ask, I pray thee, the priests the law, saying:

Assim diz o Senhor dos exércitos: Pergunta agora aos sacerdotes, acerca da lei, dizendo:

12 L o, one doth carry holy flesh in the skirt of his garment, and he hath come with his skirt against the bread, or against the pottage, or against the wine, or against the oil, or against any food -- is it holy?' And the priests answer and say, `No.'

Se alguém levar na aba de suas vestes carne santa, e com a sua aba tocar no pão, ou no guisado, ou no vinho, ou no azeite, ou em qualquer outro mantimento, ficará este santificado? E os sacerdotes responderam: Não.

13 A nd Haggai saith, `If the unclean of body doth come against any of these, is it unclean?' And the priests answer and say, `It is unclean.'

Então perguntou Ageu: Se alguém, que for contaminado pelo contato com o corpo morto, tocar nalguma destas coisas, ficará ela imunda? E os sacerdotes responderam: Ficará imunda.

14 A nd Haggai answereth and saith, `So this people, and so this nation before Me -- an affirmation of Jehovah -- and so every work of their hands, and that which they bring near there -- it is unclean.

Ao que respondeu Ageu, dizendo: Assim é este povo, e assim é esta nação diante de mim, diz o Senhor; assim é toda a obra das suas mãos; e tudo o que ali oferecem imundo é.

15 A nd now, lay, I pray you, to your heart, From this day, and onwards, Before the laying of stone to stone in the temple of Jehovah.

Agora considerai o que acontece desde aquele dia. Antes que se lançasse pedra sobre pedra no templo do Senhor,

16 F rom that time hath come to a heap of twenty, And it hath been ten, He hath come unto the wine-fat to draw out fifty purahs, And it hath been twenty.

quando alguém vinha a um montão de trigo de vinte medidas, havia somente dez; quando vinha ao lagar para tirar cinqüenta, havia somente vinte.

17 I have smitten you with blasting, And with mildew, and with hail -- All the work of your hands, And there is none of you with Me, An affirmation of Jehovah.

Feri-vos com mangra, e com ferrugem, e com saraiva, em todas as obras das vossas mãos; e não houve entre vós quem voltasse para mim, diz o Senhor.

18 S et, I pray you, to your heart, from this day and onwards, from the twenty and fourth day of the ninth, even from the day that the temple of Jehovah hath been founded, set to your heart.

Considerai, pois, eu vos rogo, desde este dia em diante, desde o vigésimo quarto dia do mês nono, desde o dia em que se lançaram os alicerces do templo do Senhor, sim, considerai essas coisas.

19 I s the seed yet in the barn? And hitherto the vine and the fig, And the pomegranate, and the olive-tree, Have not borne -- from this day I bless.'

Está ainda semente no celeiro? A videira, a figueira, a romeira, e a oliveira ainda não dão os seus frutos? Desde este dia hei de vos abençoar.

20 A nd there is a word of Jehovah a second time unto Haggai, on the twenty and fourth of the month, saying:

Veio pela segunda vez a palavra do Senhor a Ageu, aos vinte e quatro do mês, dizendo:

21 ` Speak unto Zerubbabel governor of Judah, saying: I am shaking the heavens and the earth,

Fala a Zorobabel, governador de Judá, dizendo: Abalarei os céus e a terra;

22 A nd have overturned the throne of kingdoms, And I have destroyed the strength of kingdoms of the nations, And overturned chariot and its charioteers, And come down have horses and their riders, Each by the sword of his brother.

e derrubarei o trono dos reinos, e destruirei a força dos reinos das nações; destruirei o carro e os que nele andam; os cavalos e os seus cavaleiros cairão, cada um pela espada do seu irmão.

23 I n that day -- an affirmation of Jehovah of Hosts, I take thee, Zerubbabel, son of Shealtiel, My servant -- an affirmation of Jehovah, And have set thee as a signet, for on thee I have fixed, An affirmation of Jehovah of Hosts!

Naquele dia, diz o Senhor dos exércitos, tomar-te-ei, ó Zorobabel, servo meu, filho de Sealtiel, diz o Senhor, e te farei como um anel de selar; porque te escolhi, diz o Senhor dos exércitos.
