1 A nd Rehoboam goeth to Shechem, for to Shechem hath all Israel come to make him king.

Foi então Roboão para Siquém, porque todo o Israel se congregara ali para fazê-lo rei.

2 A nd it cometh to pass, at Jeroboam son of Nebat's hearing (and he yet in Egypt where he hath fled from the presence of Solomon the king, and Jeroboam dwelleth in Egypt),

E Jeroboão, filho de Nebate, que estava ainda no Egito, para onde fugira da presença do rei Salomão, ouvindo isto, voltou do Egito.

3 t hat they send and call for him; and they come -- Jeroboam and all the assembly of Israel -- and speak unto Rehoboam, saying,

E mandaram chamá-lo; Jeroboão e toda a congregação de Israel vieram, e falaram a Roboão, dizendo:

4 ` Thy father made hard our yoke, and thou, now, make light of the hard service of thy father, and his heavy yoke that he put upon us, and we serve thee.'

Teu pai agravou o nosso jugo; agora, pois, alivia a dura servidão e o pesado juro que teu pai nos impôs, e nós te serviremos.

5 A nd he saith unto them, `Go -- yet three days, and come back unto me;' and the people go.

Ele lhes respondeu: Ide-vos até o terceiro dia, e então voltai a mim. E o povo se foi.

6 A nd king Rehoboam consulteth with the elders who have been standing in the presence of Solomon his father, in his being alive, saying, `How are ye counselling to answer this people?'

Teve o rei Roboão conselho com os anciãos que tinham assistido diante de Salomão, seu pai, quando este ainda vivia, e perguntou-lhes: como aconselhais vós que eu responda a este povo?

7 A nd they speak unto him, saying, `If, to-day, thou art servant to this people, and hast served them, and answered them, and spoken unto them good words, then they have been to thee servants all the days.'

Eles lhe disseram: Se hoje te tornares servo deste povo, e o servires, e, respondendo-lhe, lhe falares boas palavras, eles serão para sempre teus servos.

8 A nd he forsaketh the counsel of the elders which they counselled him, and consulteth with the lads who have grown up with him, who are standing before him;

Ele, porém, deixou o conselho que os anciãos lhe deram, e teve conselho com os mancebos que haviam crescido com ele, e que assistiam diante dele,

9 a nd he saith unto them, `What are ye counselling, and we answer this people, who have spoken unto me, saying, Lighten of the yoke that thy father put upon us?'

perguntando-lhes: Que aconselhais vós que respondamos a este povo, que me disse: Alivia o jugo que teu pai nos impôs?

10 A nd they speak unto him -- the lads who had grown up with him -- saying, `Thus dost thou say to this people who have spoken unto thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, and thou, make light upon us; thus dost thou speak unto them, My little is thicker than the loins of my father;

E os mancebos que haviam crescido com ele responderam-lhe: A este povo que te falou, dizendo: Teu pai fez pesado o nosso jugo, mas tu o alivia de sobre nós; assim lhe falarás: Meu dedo mínimo é mais grosso do que os lombos de meu pai.

11 a nd now, my father laid on you a heavy yoke, and I add to your yoke; my father chastised you with whips, and I -- I chastise you with scorpions.'

Assim que, se meu pai vos carregou dum jugo pesado, eu ainda aumentarei o vosso jugo; meu pai vos castigou com açoites; eu, porém, vos castigarei com escorpiões.

12 A nd they come -- Jeroboam and all the people -- unto Rehoboam, on the third day, as the king had spoken, saying, `Come back unto me on the third day.'

Veio, pois, Jeroboão com todo o povo a Roboão ao terceiro dia, como o rei havia ordenado, dizendo: Voltai a mim ao terceiro dia.

13 A nd the king answereth the people sharply, and forsaketh the counsel of the elders which they counselled him,

E o rei respondeu ao povo asperamente e, deixando o conselho que os anciãos lhe haviam dado,

14 a nd speaketh unto them, according to the counsel of the lads, saying, `My father made your yoke heavy, and I add to your yoke; my father chastised you with whips, and I -- I chastise you with scorpions;'

falou-lhe conforme o conselho dos mancebos, dizendo: Meu pai agravou o vosso jugo, porém eu ainda o aumentarei; meu pai vos castigou com açoites, porém eu vos castigarei com escorpiões.

15 a nd the king hearkened not unto the people, for the revolution was from Jehovah, in order to establish His word that Jehovah spake by the hand of Ahijah the Shilonite unto Jeroboam son of Nebat.

O rei, pois, não deu ouvidos ao povo; porque esta mudança vinha do Senhor, para confirmar a palavra que o Senhor dissera por intermédio de Aías, o silonita, a Jeroboão, filho de Nebate.

16 A nd all Israel see that the king hath not hearkened unto them, and the people send the king back word, saying, `What portion have we in David? yea, there is no inheritance in the son of Jesse; to thy tents, O Israel; now see thy house, O David!' and Israel goeth to its tents.

Vendo, pois, todo o Israel que o rei não lhe dava ouvidos, respondeu-lhe, dizendo: Que parte temos nós em Davi? Não temos herança no filho de Jessé. Âs tuas tendas, ó Israel! Agora olha por tua casa, ó Davi! Então Israel se foi para as suas tendas.

17 A s to the sons of Israel, those dwelling in the cities of Judah -- over them reign doth Rehoboam.

(Mas quanto aos filhos de Israel que habitavam nas cidades de Judá, sobre eles reinou Roboão.)

18 A nd king Rehoboam sendeth Adoram who over the tribute, and all Israel cast at him stones, and he dieth; and king Rehoboam hath strengthened himself to go up into a chariot to flee to Jerusalem;

Então o rei Roboão enviou-lhes Adorão, que estava sobre a leva de tributários servis; e todo o Israel o apedrejou, e ele morreu. Pelo que o rei Roboão se apressou a subir ao seu carro e fugiu para Jerusalém.

19 a nd Israel transgresseth against the house of David unto this day.

Assim Israel se rebelou contra a casa de Davi até o dia de hoje.

20 A nd it cometh to pass, at all Israel's hearing that Jeroboam hath returned, that they send and call him unto the company, and cause him to reign over all Israel; none hath been after the house of David save the tribe of Judah alone.

Sucedeu então que, ouvindo todo o Israel que Jeroboão tinha voltado, mandaram chamá-lo para a congregação, e o fizeram rei sobre todo o Israel; e não houve ninguém que seguisse a casa de Davi, senão somente a tribo de Judá.

21 A nd Rehoboam cometh to Jerusalem, and assembleth all the house of Judah and the tribe of Benjamin, a hundred and eighty thousand chosen warriors, to fight with the house of Israel, to bring back the kingdom to Rehoboam son of Solomon.

Tendo Roboão chegado a Jerusalém, convocou toda a casa de Judá e a tribo de Benjamim, cento e oitenta mil homens escolhidos, destros para a guerra, para pelejarem contra a casa de Israel a fim de restituírem o reino a Roboãa, filho de Salomão.

22 A nd the word of God is unto Shemaiah a man of God, saying,

Veio, porém, a palavra de Deus a Semaías, homem de Deus, dizendo:

23 ` Speak unto Rehoboam son of Solomon, king of Judah, and unto all the house of Judah and Benjamin, and the rest of the people, saying,

Fala a Roboão, filho de Salomão, rei de Judá, e a toda a casa de Judá e de Benjamim, e ao resto do povo, dizendo:

24 T hus said Jehovah, Ye do not go up nor fight with your brethren the sons of Israel; turn back each to his house, for from Me hath this thing been;' and they hear the word of Jehovah, and turn back to go according to the word of Jehovah.

Assim diz o Senhor: Não subireis, nem pelejareis contra vossos irmãos, os filhos de Israel; volte cada um para a sua casa, porque de mim proveio isto. E ouviram a palavra do Senhor, e voltaram segundo o seu mandado.

25 A nd Jeroboam buildeth Shechem in the hill-country of Ephraim, and dwelleth in it, and goeth out thence, and buildeth Penuel;

Jeroboão edificou Siquém, na região montanhosa de Efraim, e habitou ali; depois, saindo dali, edificou Penuel.

26 a nd Jeroboam saith in his heart, `Now doth the kingdom turn back to the house of David --

Disse Jeroboão no seu coração: Agora tornará o reino para a casa de Davi.

27 i f this people go up to make sacrifices in the house of Jehovah in Jerusalem, then hath the heart of this people turned back unto their lord, unto Rehoboam king of Judah, and they have slain me, and turned back unto Rehoboam king of Judah.'

Se este povo subir para fazer sacrifícios na casa do Senhor, em Jerusalém, o seu coração se tornará para o seu senhor, Roboão, rei de Judá; e, matando-me, voltarão para Roboão, rei de Judá.

28 A nd the king taketh counsel, and maketh two calves of gold, and saith unto them, `Enough to you of going up to Jerusalem; lo, thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.'

Pelo que o rei, tendo tomado conselho, fez doisvado e meio. ouro; e disse ao povo: Basta de subires a Jerusalém; eis aqui teus deuses, ó Israel, que te fizeram subir da terra do Egito.

29 A nd he setteth the one in Beth-El, and the other he hath put in Dan,

E pôs um em Betel, e o outro em Dã.

30 a nd this thing becometh a sin, and the people go before the one -- unto Dan.

Ora, isto se tornou em pecado; pois que o povo ia até Dã para adorar o ídolo.

31 A nd he maketh the house of high places, and maketh priests of the extremities of the people, who were not of the sons of Levi;

Também fez casas nos altos, e constituiu sacerdotes dentre o povo, que não eram dos filhos de Levi.

32 a nd Jeroboam maketh a festival in the eighth month, in the fifteenth day of the month, like the festival that in Judah, and he offereth on the altar -- so did he in Beth-El -- to sacrifice to the calves which he made, and he hath appointed in Beth-El the priests of the high places that he made.

E Jeroboão ordenou uma festa no oitavo mês, no dia décimo quinto do mês, como a festa que se celebrava em Judá, e sacrificou no altar. Semelhantemente fez em Betel, sacrificando aos bezerros que tinha feito; também em Betel estabeleceu os sacerdotes dos altos que fizera.

33 A nd he offereth up on the altar that he made in Beth-El, on the fifteenth day of the eighth month, in the month that he devised of his own heart, and he maketh a festival to the sons of Israel, and offereth on the altar -- to make perfume.

Sacrificou, pois, no altar, que fizera em Betel, no dia décimo quinto do oitavo mês, mês que ele tinha escolhido a seu bel prazer; assim ordenou uma festa para os filhos de Israel, e sacrificou no altar, queimando incenso.
