1 I f with the tongues of men and of messengers I speak, and have not love, I have become brass sounding, or a cymbal tinkling;

Ainda que eu falasse as línguas dos homens e dos anjos, e não tivesse amor, seria como o metal que soa ou como o címbalo que retine.

2 a nd if I have prophecy, and know all the secrets, and all the knowledge, and if I have all the faith, so as to remove mountains, and have not love, I am nothing;

E ainda que tivesse o dom de profecia, e conhecesse todos os mistérios e toda a ciência, e ainda que tivesse toda fé, de maneira tal que transportasse os montes, e não tivesse amor, nada seria.

3 a nd if I give away to feed others all my goods, and if I give up my body that I may be burned, and have not love, I am profited nothing.

E ainda que distribuísse todos os meus bens para sustento dos pobres, e ainda que entregasse o meu corpo para ser queimado, e não tivesse amor, nada disso me aproveitaria.

4 T he love is long-suffering, it is kind, the love doth not envy, the love doth not vaunt itself, is not puffed up,

O amor é sofredor, é benigno; o amor não é invejoso; o amor não se vangloria, não se ensoberbece,

5 d oth not act unseemly, doth not seek its own things, is not provoked, doth not impute evil,

não se porta inconvenientemente, não busca os seus próprios interesses, não se irrita, não suspeita mal;

6 r ejoiceth not over the unrighteousness, and rejoiceth with the truth;

não se regozija com a injustiça, mas se regozija com a verdade;

7 a ll things it beareth, all it believeth, all it hopeth, all it endureth.

tudo sofre, tudo crê, tudo espera, tudo suporta.

8 T he love doth never fail; and whether prophecies, they shall become useless; whether tongues, they shall cease; whether knowledge, it shall become useless;

O amor jamais acaba; mas havendo profecias, serão aniquiladas; havendo línguas, cessarão; havendo ciência, desaparecerá;

9 f or in part we know, and in part we prophecy;

porque, em parte conhecemos, e em parte profetizamos;

10 a nd when that which is perfect may come, then that which in part shall become useless.

mas, quando vier o que é perfeito, então o que é em parte será aniquilado.

11 W hen I was a babe, as a babe I was speaking, as a babe I was thinking, as a babe I was reasoning, and when I have become a man, I have made useless the things of the babe;

Quando eu era menino, pensava como menino; mas, logo que cheguei a ser homem, acabei com as coisas de menino.

12 f or we see now through a mirror obscurely, and then face to face; now I know in part, and then I shall fully know, as also I was known;

Porque agora vemos como por espelho, em enigma, mas então veremos face a face; agora conheço em parte, mas então conhecerei plenamente, como também sou plenamente conhecido.

13 a nd now there doth remain faith, hope, love -- these three; and the greatest of these love.

Agora, pois, permanecem a fé, a esperança, o amor, estes três; mas o maior destes é o amor.
