1 A n aged person thou mayest not rebuke, but be entreating as a father; younger persons as brethren;

No reprendas al anciano, sino exhórtalo como a padre; a los más jóvenes, como a hermanos;

2 a ged women as mothers, younger ones as sisters -- in all purity;

a las ancianas, como a madres; a las jovencitas, como a hermanas, con toda pureza.

3 h onour widows who are really widows;

Honra a las viudas que en verdad lo son.

4 a nd if any widow have children or grandchildren, let them learn first to their own house to show piety, and to give back a recompense to the parents, for this is right and acceptable before God.

Pero si alguna viuda tiene hijos o nietos, aprendan estos primero a ser piadosos para con su propia familia y a recompensar a sus padres, porque esto es lo bueno y agradable delante de Dios.

5 A nd she who is really a widow and desolate, hath hoped upon God, and doth remain in the supplications and in the prayers night and day,

Pero la que en verdad es viuda y ha quedado sola, espera en Dios y es diligente en súplicas y oraciones noche y día.

6 a nd she who is given to luxury, living -- hath died;

Pero la que se entrega a los placeres, viviendo está muerta.

7 a nd these things charge, that they may be blameless;

Manda también esto, para que sean irreprochables,

8 a nd if any one for his own -- and especially for those of the household -- doth not provide, the faith he hath denied, and than an unbeliever he is worse.

porque si alguno no provee para los suyos, y mayormente para los de su casa, ha negado la fe y es peor que un incrédulo.

9 A widow -- let her not be enrolled under sixty years of age, having been a wife of one husband,

Sea puesta en la lista sólo la viuda no menor de sesenta años, que haya sido esposa de un solo marido,

10 i n good works being testified to: if she brought up children, if she entertained strangers, if saints' feet she washed, if those in tribulation she relieved, if every good work she followed after;

que tenga testimonio de buenas obras: si ha criado hijos, si ha practicado la hospitalidad, si ha lavado los pies de los santos, si ha socorrido a los afligidos, si ha practicado toda buena obra.

11 a nd younger widows be refusing, for when they may revel against the Christ, they wish to marry,

Pero viudas más jóvenes no admitas, porque cuando, impulsadas por sus deseos, se rebelan contra Cristo, quieren casarse,

12 h aving judgment, because the first faith they did cast away,

incurriendo así en condenación por haber quebrantado su primera fe.

13 a nd at the same time also, they learn idle, going about the houses; and not only idle, but also tattlers and busybodies, speaking the things they ought not;

Y también aprenden a ser ociosas, andando de casa en casa; y no solamente ociosas, sino también chismosas y entrometidas, hablando lo que no debieran.

14 I wish, therefore, younger ones to marry, to bear children, to be mistress of the house, to give no occasion to the opposer to reviling;

Quiero, pues, que las viudas jóvenes se casen, críen hijos, gobiernen su casa; que no den al adversario ninguna ocasión de maledicencia,

15 f or already certain did turn aside after the Adversary.

porque ya algunas se han apartado en pos de Satanás.

16 I f any believing man or believing woman have widows, let them relieve them, and let not the assembly be burdened, that those really widows it may relieve.

Si algún creyente o alguna creyente tiene viudas, que las mantenga, y no sea gravada la iglesia, a fin de que haya lo suficiente para las que en verdad son viudas.

17 T he well-leading elders of double honour let them be counted worthy, especially those labouring in word and teaching,

Los ancianos que gobiernan bien, sean tenidos por dignos de doble honor, mayormente los que trabajan en predicar y enseñar,

18 f or the Writing saith, `An ox treading out thou shalt not muzzle,' and `Worthy the workman of his reward.'

pues la Escritura dice: «No pondrás bozal al buey que trilla» y «Digno es el obrero de su salario».

19 A gainst an elder an accusation receive not, except upon two or three witnesses.

Contra un anciano no admitas acusación si no está apoyada por dos o tres testigos.

20 T hose sinning, reprove before all, that the others also may have fear;

A los que persisten en pecar, repréndelos delante de todos, para que los demás también teman.

21 I testify fully, before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, and the choice messengers, that these things thou mayest keep, without forejudging, doing nothing by partiality.

Te encarezco delante de Dios, del Señor Jesucristo y de sus ángeles escogidos, que guardes estas cosas sin prejuicios, no haciendo nada con parcialidad.

22 B e laying hands quickly on no one, nor be having fellowship with sins of others; be keeping thyself pure;

No impongas con ligereza las manos a ninguno ni participes en pecados ajenos. Consérvate puro.

23 n o longer be drinking water, but a little wine be using, because of thy stomach and of thine often infirmities;

Ya no bebas agua, sino usa de un poco de vino por causa de tu estómago y de tus frecuentes enfermedades.

24 o f certain men the sins are manifest beforehand, leading before to judgment, and certain also they follow after;

Los pecados de algunos hombres se hacen patentes antes que ellos vengan a juicio, pero a otros se les descubren después.

25 i n like manner also the right works are manifest beforehand, and those that are otherwise are not able to be hid.

Asimismo se hacen manifiestas las buenas obras; y las que son de otra manera, no pueden permanecer ocultas.
