1 I n the eighteenth year of king Jeroboam -- Abijah reigneth over Judah;

În al optsprezecelea an al domniei lui Ieroboam, peste Iuda a început să domnească Abia.

2 t hree years he hath reigned in Jerusalem, (and the name of his mother Michaiah daughter of Uriel, from Gibeah,) and war hath been between Abijah and Jeroboam.

El a domnit trei ani la Ierusalim. Mamă-sa se numea Micaia, fata lui Uriel, din Ghibea. Între Abia şi Ieroboam a fost război.

3 A nd Abijah directeth the war with a force of mighty men of war, four hundred thousand chosen men, and Jeroboam hath set in array with him battle, with eight hundred thousand chosen men, mighty of valour.

Abia a început lupta cu o oaste de războinici viteji, patrusute de mii de oameni aleşi; şi Ieroboam s'a înşiruit de bătaie împotriva lui cu opt sute de mii de oameni aleşi, războinici viteji.

4 A nd Abijah riseth up on the hill of Zemaraim that in the hill-country of Ephraim, and saith, `Hear me, Jeroboam and all Israel!

Depe vîrful muntelui Ţemaraim, care face parte din muntele lui Efraim, Abia s'a sculat şi a zis:,, Ascultă-mă, Ieroboame, şi tot Israelul!

5 I s it not for you to know that Jehovah, God of Israel, hath given the kingdom to David over Israel to the age, to him and to his sons -- a covenant of salt?

Nu trebuie oare să ştiţi că Domnul, Dumnezeul lui Israel, a dat pe vecie domnia peste Israel lui David şi fiilor lui printr'un legămînt care nu se poate călca?

6 a nd rise up doth Jeroboam, son of Nebat, servant of Solomon son of David, and rebelleth against his lord!

Dar Iaroboam, fiul lui Nebat, slujitorul lui Solomon, fiul lui David, s'a sculat şi s'a răzvrătit împotriva stăpînului său.

7 ` And there are gathered unto him vain men, sons of worthlessness, and they strengthen themselves against Rehoboam son of Solomon, and Rehoboam was a youth, and tender of heart, and hath not strengthened himself against them.

Nişte oameni de nimic, oameni răi, s'au strîns la el şi s'au împotrivit lui Roboam, fiul lui Solomon. Roboam era tînăr şi fricos, şi nu putea să li se împotrivească.

8 ` And now, ye are saying to strengthen yourselves before the kingdom of Jehovah in the hand of the sons of David, and ye a numerous multitude, and with you calves of gold that Jeroboam hath made to you for gods.

Şi acum, voi credeţi că puteţi ieşi biruitori asupra împărăţiei Domnului, care este în mînile fiilor lui David; şi voi sînteţi o mare mulţime şi aveţi cu voi viţeii de aur pe cari vi i -a făcut Ieroboam ca dumnezei.

9 ` Have ye not cast out the priests of Jehovah, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites, and make to you priests like the peoples of the lands? every one who hath come to fill his hand with a bullock, a son of the herd, and seven rams, even he hath been a priest to No-gods!

N'aţi îndepărtat voi pe preoţii Domnului, pe fiii lui Aaron şi pe Leviţi, şi nu v'aţi făcut voi preoţi, ca şi popoarele celorlalte ţări? Oricine venea cu un viţel şi şapte berbeci, ca să fie sfinţit, se făcea preot al celui ce nu este Dumnezeu.

10 ` As for us, Jehovah our God, and we have not forsaken Him, and priests are ministering to Jehovah, sons of Aaron and the Levites, in the work,

Dar cît despre noi, Domnul este Dumnezeul nostru, şi noi nu L-am părăsit, preoţii din slujba Domnului sînt fii ai lui Aaron, şi Leviţii stau şi îşi împlinesc slujbele.

11 a nd are making perfume to Jehovah, burnt-offerings morning by morning, and evening by evening, and perfume of spices, and the arrangement of bread on the pure table, and the candlestick of gold, and its lamps, to burn evening by evening, for we are keeping the charge of Jehovah our God, and ye -- ye have forsaken Him.

Noi aducem în fiecare dimineaţă şi în fiecare seară arderi de tot Domnului, ardem tămîie mirositoare, punem pînile pentru punerea înaintea Domnului pe masa cea curată, şi aprindem în fiecare seară sfeşnicul de aur cu candelele lui; căci păzim poruncile Domnului, Dumnezeului nostru. Dar voi L-aţi părăsit.

12 ` And lo, with us -- at head -- God, and His priests and trumpets of shouting to shout against you; O sons of Israel, do not fight with Jehovah, God of your fathers, for ye do not prosper.'

Iată că Dumnezeu şi preoţii Lui sînt cu noi, în fruntea noastră, şi avem şi trîmbiţele răsunătoare ca să sunăm din ele împotriva voastră. Copii ai lui Israel! nu faceţi război împotriva Domnului, Dumnezeului părinţilor voştri, căci nu veţi avea nicio izbîndă!``

13 A nd Jeroboam hath brought round the ambush to come in from behind them, and they are before Judah, and the ambush behind them.

Ieroboam i -a luat pe din apoi, cu ajutorul unor oameni puşi la pîndă, aşa că oştile lui erau în faţa lui Iuda, iar cei ce stăteau la pîndă erau înapoia lor.

14 A nd Judah turneth, and lo, against them the battle, before and behind, and they cry to Jehovah, and the priests are blowing with trumpets,

Cei din Iuda, întorcîndu-se, au avut de luptat înainte şi înapoi. Au strigat către Domnul, şi preoţii au sunat din trîmbiţe.

15 a nd the men of Judah shout -- and it cometh to pass, at the shouting of the men of Judah, that God hath smitten Jeroboam, and all Israel, before Abijah and Judah.

Oamenii lui Iuda au scos un strigăt de război şi, la strigătul de război al oamenilor lui Iuda, Domnul a lovit pe Ieroboam şi pe tot Israelul dinaintea lui Abia şi a lui Iuda.

16 A nd the sons of Israel flee from the face of Judah, and God giveth them into their hand,

Copiii lui Israel au fugit dinaintea lui Iuda, şi Dumnezeu i -a dat în mînile lui.

17 a nd Abijah and his people smite among them a great smiting, and there fall wounded of Israel five hundred thousand chosen men.

Abia şi poporul lui le-au pricinuit o mare înfrîngere, şi cinci sute de mii de oameni aleşi au căzut morţi printre cei din Israel.

18 A nd the sons of Israel are humbled at that time, and the sons of Judah are strong, for they have leant on Jehovah, God of their fathers.

Copiii lui Israel au fost smeriţi în vremea aceea, şi copiii lui Iuda au cîştigat biruinţa, pentrucă se sprijiniseră pe Domnul, Dumnezeul părinţilor lor.

19 A nd Abijah pursueth after Jeroboam, and captureth from him cities, Beth-El and its small towns, and Jeshanah and its small towns, and Ephraim and its small towns.

Abia a urmărit pe Ieroboam şi i -a luat cetăţi: Betelul cu satele lui, Ieşana cu satele ei, şi Efronul cu satele lui.

20 A nd Jeroboam hath not retained power any more in the days of Abijah, and Jehovah smiteth him, and he dieth.

Ieroboam n'a mai avut putere pe vremea lui Abia, şi Domnul l -a lovit, şi a murit.

21 A nd Abijah strengtheneth himself, and taketh to him fourteen wives, and begetteth twenty and two sons, and sixteen daughters,

Dar Abia a ajuns puternic; a avut patrusprezece neveste, şi a născut douăzeci şi doi de fii şi şasesprezece fete.

22 a nd the rest of the matters of Abijah, and his ways, and his words, are written in the `Inquiry' of the prophet Iddo.

Celelalte fapte ale lui Abia, ce a făcut şi ce a spus el, sînt scrise în cartea proorocului Ido.
