1 A nd strengthen himself doth Solomon son of David over his kingdom, and Jehovah his God with him, and maketh him exceedingly great.

Solomon, fiul lui David, s'a întărit în domnie; Domnul, Dumnezeul lui, a fost cu el; şi l -a înălţat din ce în ce mai mult.

2 A nd Solomon saith to all Israel, to heads of the thousands, and of the hundreds, and to judges, and to every honourable one of all Israel, heads of the fathers,

Solomon a poruncit întregului Israel, căpeteniilor peste mii şi sute, judecătorilor, mai marilor întregului Israel, căpeteniilor caselor părinteşti;

3 a nd they go -- Solomon, and all the assembly with him -- to the high place that in Gibeon, for there hath been God's tent of meeting, that Moses, servant of Jehovah, made in the wilderness,

şi Solomon s'a dus cu toată adunarea la înălţimea dela Gabaon. Acolo se afla cortul întîlnirii lui Dumnezeu, făcut în pustie de Moise, robul Domnului.

4 b ut the ark of God had David brought up from Kirjath-Jearim, when David prepared for it, for he stretched out for it a tent in Jerusalem;

Dar chivotul lui Dumnezeu fusese mutat de David din Chiriat-Iearim la locul pe care i -l pregătise, căci îi întinsese un cort la Ierusalim.

5 a nd the altar of brass that Bezaleel son of Uri, son of Hur made, he put before the tabernacle of Jehovah; and Solomon and the assembly seek to it.

Tot acolo se afla, înaintea cortului Domnului, altarul de aramă pe care -l făcuse Beţalel, fiul lui Uri, fiul lui Hur.

6 A nd Solomon goeth up thither, on the altar of brass, before Jehovah, that at the tent of meeting, and causeth to ascend upon it a thousand burnt-offerings.

Solomon şi adunarea au căutat pe Domnul. Şi acolo, pe altarul de aramă care era înaintea cortului întîlnirii, a adus Solomon Domnului o mie de arderi de tot.

7 I n that night hath God appeared to Solomon, and saith to him, `Ask -- what do I give to thee?'

În timpul nopţii, Dumnezeu S'a arătat lui Solomon, şi i -a zis:,, Cere ce vrei să-ţi dau.``

8 A nd Solomon saith to God, `Thou hast done with David my father great kindness, and hast caused me to reign in his stead.

Solomon a răspuns lui Dumnezeu:,, Tu ai arătat o mare bunăvoinţă tatălui meu David, şi m'ai pus să domnesc în locul lui.

9 N ow, O Jehovah God, is Thy word with David my father stedfast, for Thou hast caused me to reign over a people numerous as the dust of the earth;

Acum, Doamne Dumnezeule, împlinească-se făgăduinţa Ta, făcută tatălui meu David, fiindcă m'ai pus să domnesc peste un popor mare la număr ca pulberea pămîntului!

10 n ow, wisdom and knowledge give to me, and I go out before this people, and I come in, for who doth judge this Thy great people?'

Dă-mi dar înţelepciune şi pricepere, ca să ştiu cum să mă port în fruntea acestui popor! Căci cine ar putea să judece pe poporul Tău, pe poporul acesta atît de mare?``

11 A nd God saith to Solomon, `Because that this hath been with thy heart, and thou hast not asked riches, wealth, and honour, and the life of those hating thee, and also many days hast not asked, and dost ask for thyself wisdom and knowledge, so that thou dost judge My people over which I have caused thee to reign --

Dumnezeu a zis lui Solomon:,, Fiindcă dorinţa aceasta este în inima ta, fiindcă nu ceri nici bogăţii, nici averi, nici slavă, nici moartea vrăjmaşilor tăi, nici chiar o viaţă lungă, ci ceri pentru tine înţelepciune şi pricepere ca să judeci pe poporul Meu, peste care te-am pus să domneşti,

12 t he wisdom and the knowledge is given to thee, and riches and wealth and honour I give to thee, that there hath not been so to the kings who before thee, and after thee it is not so.'

Înţelepciunea şi priceperea îţi sînt date. Îţi voi da, pe deasupra, bogăţii, averi şi slavă, cum n'a mai avut niciodată niciun împărat înaintea ta, şi cum nici nu va mai avea după tine.``

13 A nd Solomon cometh in the high place that in Gibeon to Jerusalem, from before the tent of meeting, and reigneth over Israel,

Solomon s'a întors la Ierusalim, după ce a părăsit înălţimea de la Gabaon şi cortul întîlnirii. Şi a domnit peste Israel.

14 a nd Solomon gathereth chariots and horsemen, and he hath a thousand and four hundred chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen, and he placeth them in the cities of the chariots, and with the king in Jerusalem.

Solomon a strîns cară şi călărime; avea o mie patru sute de cară şi douăsprezece mii de călăreţi, pe cari i -a aşezat în cetăţile unde ţinea carăle şi la Ierusalim lîngă împărat.

15 A nd the king maketh the silver and the gold in Jerusalem as stones, and the cedars he made as sycamores that in the low country, for abundance.

Împăratul a făcut argintul şi aurul tot atît de obicinuite la Ierusalim ca pietrele, şi cedrii tot atît de obicinuiţi ca sicomorii1 cari cresc în cîmpie.

16 A nd the source of the horses that to Solomon from Egypt and from Keva; merchants of the king from Keva take at a price,

Solomon îşi aducea caii din Egipt; o ceată de negustori ai împăratului se duceau şi -i luau în cete pe un preţ hotărît;

17 a nd they come up, and bring out from Egypt a chariot for six hundred silverlings, and a horse for fifty and a hundred, and so for all the kings of the Hittites, and the kings of Aram -- by their hand they bring out.

se duceau şi aduceau din Egipt un car cu şase sute de sicli de argint, şi un cal cu o sută cincizeci de sicli. Tot aşa aduceau şi pentru toţi împăraţii Hetiţilor şi pentru împăraţii Siriei.
