1 ` Say ye to your brethren -- Ammi, And to your sisters -- Ruhamah.

«Dite ai vostri fratelli: “Ammi!” e alle vostre sorelle: “Ruama!”

2 P lead ye with your mother -- plead, (For she not My wife, and I not her husband,) And she turneth her whoredoms from before her, And her adulteries from between her breasts,

«Contestate vostra madre, contestatela! perché lei non è più mia moglie e io non sono più suo marito! Tolga dalla sua faccia le sue prostituzioni e i suoi adultèri dal suo petto;

3 L est I strip her naked. And have set her up as the day of her birth, And have made her as a wilderness, And have set her as a dry land, And have put her to death with thirst.

altrimenti io la spoglierò nuda, la metterò com’era nel giorno che nacque, la renderò simile a un deserto, la ridurrò come una terra arida e la farò morire di sete.

4 A nd her sons I do not pity, For sons of whoredoms they,

Non avrò pietà dei suoi figli, perché sono figli di prostituzione,

5 F or gone a-whoring hath their mother, Acted shamefully hath their conceiver, For she hath said, I go after my lovers, Those giving my bread and my water, My wool and my flax, my oil and my drink.

perché la loro madre si è prostituita; colei che li ha concepiti ha fatto cose vergognose, poiché ha detto: “Seguirò i miei amanti, che mi danno il mio pane, la mia acqua, la mia lana, il mio lino, il mio olio e le mie bevande”.

6 T herefore, lo, I am hedging up thy way with thorns, And I have made for her a wall, And her paths she doth not find.

Perciò, ecco, io ti sbarrerò la via con delle spine; la circonderò di un muro, così che non troverà più i suoi sentieri.

7 A nd she hath pursued her lovers, And she doth not overtake them, And hath sought them, and doth not find, And she hath said: I go, and I turn back unto My first husband, For -- better to me then than now.

Correrà dietro ai suoi amanti, ma non li raggiungerà; li cercherà, ma non li troverà. Allora dirà: “Tornerò al mio primo marito, perché allora stavo meglio di adesso”.

8 A nd she knew not that I had given to her, The corn, and the new wine, and the oil. Yea, silver I did multiply to her, And the gold they prepared for Baal.

Lei non si è resa conto che io le davo il grano, il vino, l’olio; io le prodigavo l’argento e l’oro, che essi hanno usato per Baal!

9 T herefore do I turn back, And I have taken My corn in its season, And My new wine in its appointed time, And I have taken away My wool and My flax, covering her nakedness.

Perciò io riprenderò il mio grano a suo tempo e il mio vino nella sua stagione; le strapperò la mia lana e il mio lino, che servivano a coprire la sua nudità.

10 A nd now do I reveal her dishonour before the eyes of her lovers, And none doth deliver her out of My hand.

Ora scoprirò la sua vergogna agli occhi dei suoi amanti, e nessuno la salverà dalla mia mano.

11 A nd I have caused to cease all her joy, Her festival, her new moon, and her sabbath, Even all her appointed times,

Farò cessare tutte le sue gioie, le sue feste, i suoi noviluni, i suoi sabati e tutte le sue solennità.

12 A nd made desolate her vine and her fig-tree, Of which she said, A gift they to me, That my lovers have given to me, And I have made them for a forest, And consumed them hath a beast of the field.

Devasterò le sue vigne e i suoi fichi, di cui diceva: “Sono il compenso che mi hanno dato i miei amanti”. Io li ridurrò in un bosco e li divoreranno gli animali della campagna.

13 A nd I have charged on her the days of the Baalim, To whom she maketh perfume, And putteth on her ring and her ornament, And goeth after her lovers, And Me forgat -- an affirmation of Jehovah.

La punirò a causa dei giorni dei Baal, quando bruciava loro incenso e, ornata dei suoi pendenti e dei suoi gioielli, seguiva i suoi amanti e dimenticava me», dice il Signore.

14 T herefore, lo, I am enticing her, And have caused her to go to the wilderness, And I have spoken unto her heart,

«Perciò, ecco, io l’attirerò, la condurrò nel deserto e parlerò al suo cuore.

15 A nd given to her her vineyards from thence, And the valley of Achor for an opening of hope, And she hath responded there as in the days of her youth, And as in the day of her coming up out of the land of Egypt.

Di là le darò le sue vigne e la valle di Acor come porta di speranza; là mi risponderà come ai giorni della sua gioventù, come ai giorni che uscì dal paese d’Egitto.

16 A nd it hath come to pass, in that day, An affirmation of Jehovah, Thou dost call Me -- My husband, And dost not call Me any more -- My lord.

Quel giorno avverrà», dice il Signore, «che tu mi chiamerai: “Marito mio!” e non mi chiamerai più: “Mio Baal!”

17 A nd I have turned aside the names of the lords from her mouth, And they are not remembered any more by their name.

Io toglierò dalla sua bocca i nomi dei Baal, e il loro nome non sarà più pronunciato.

18 A nd I have made to them a covenant in that day, with the beast of the field, And with the fowl of the heavens, And the creeping thing of the ground, And bow, and sword, and war I break from off the land, And have caused them to lie down confidently.

Quel giorno io farò per loro un patto con le bestie dei campi, con gli uccelli del cielo e con i rettili del suolo; spezzerò e allontanerò dal paese l’arco, la spada, la guerra, e li farò riposare al sicuro.

19 A nd I have betrothed thee to Me to the age, And betrothed thee to Me in righteousness, And in judgment, and kindness, and mercies,

Io ti fidanzerò a me per l’eternità; ti fidanzerò a me in giustizia e in equità, in benevolenza e in compassioni.

20 A nd betrothed thee to Me in faithfulness, And thou hast known Jehovah.

Ti fidanzerò a me in fedeltà, e tu conoscerai il Signore.

21 A nd it hath come to pass in that day, I answer -- an affirmation of Jehovah, I answer the heavens, and they answer the earth.

Quel giorno avverrà che io ti risponderò», dice il Signore, «risponderò al cielo, ed esso risponderà alla terra;

22 A nd the earth doth answer the corn, And the new wine, and the oil, And they answer Jezreel.

la terra risponderà al grano, al vino, all’olio, e questi risponderanno a Izreel.

23 A nd I have sowed her to Me in the land, And I have pitied Lo-Ruhamah, And I have said to Lo-Ammi, My people thou, and it saith, My God!'

Io lo seminerò per me in questa terra, e avrò compassione di Lo-Ruama; e dirò a Lo-Ammi: “Tu sei mio popolo!” ed egli mi risponderà: “Mio Dio!”»
