1 A nd Mordecai hath known all that hath been done, and Mordecai rendeth his garments, and putteth on sackcloth and ashes, and goeth forth into the midst of the city and crieth -- a cry loud and bitter,

Quando Mardocheo seppe tutto quello che era stato fatto, si stracciò le vesti, si coprì di un sacco, si cosparse di cenere e uscì per la città, mandando alte e amare grida;

2 a nd he cometh in unto the front of the gate of the king, but none is to come in unto the gate of the king with a sackcloth-garment.

e giunse fin davanti alla porta del re, poiché a nessuno che fosse coperto di sacco era permesso di passare per la porta del re.

3 A nd in every province and province, the place where the word of the king, even his law, is coming, a great mourning have the Jews, and fasting, and weeping, and lamenting: sackcloth and ashes are spread for many.

In ogni provincia, dovunque giungevano l’ordine del re e il suo decreto, ci fu grande angoscia tra i Giudei: digiunavano, piangevano, si lamentavano, e a molti facevano da letto il sacco e la cenere.

4 A nd young women of Esther come in and her eunuchs, and declare to her, and the queen is exceedingly pained, and sendeth garments to clothe Mordecai, and to turn aside his sackcloth from off him, and he hath not received.

Le ancelle di Ester e i suoi eunuchi vennero a riferirle questa notizia. La regina ne fu molto angosciata e mandò delle vesti a Mardocheo, perché se le mettesse e si levasse di dosso il sacco; ma egli non le accettò.

5 A nd Esther calleth to Hatach, of the eunuchs of the king, whom he hath stationed before her, and giveth him a charge for Mordecai, to know what this, and wherefore this.

Allora Ester chiamò Atac, uno degli eunuchi che il re aveva messo al servizio di lei, e gli ordinò di andare da Mardocheo per domandargli che cosa questo significasse e perché agisse così.

6 A nd Hatach goeth out unto Mordecai, unto a broad place of the city, that before the gate of the king,

Atac si recò da Mardocheo sulla piazza della città, davanti alla porta del re.

7 a nd Mordecai declareth to him all that hath met him, and the explanation of the money that Haman said to weigh to the treasuries of the king for the Jews, to destroy them,

Mardocheo gli narrò tutto quello che gli era avvenuto e gli indicò la somma di denaro che Aman aveva promesso di versare al tesoro reale per far distruggere i Giudei;

8 a nd the copy of the writing of the law that had been given in Shushan to destroy them he hath given to him, to shew Esther, and to declare to her, and to lay a charge on her to go in unto the king, to make supplication to him, and to seek from before him, for her people.

gli diede anche una copia del testo del decreto che era stato promulgato a Susa per il loro sterminio, affinché lo mostrasse a Ester, la informasse di tutto, e le ordinasse di presentarsi al re per domandargli grazia e per intercedere in favore del suo popolo.

9 A nd Hatach cometh in and declareth to Esther the words of Mordecai,

Atac tornò da Ester e le riferì le parole di Mardocheo.

10 a nd Esther speaketh to Hatach, and chargeth him for Mordecai:

Allora Ester ordinò ad Atac di andare da Mardocheo e di dirgli:

11 ` All servants of the king, and people of the provinces of the king, do know that any man and woman, who cometh in unto the king, unto the inner court, who is not called -- one law his to put to death, apart from him to whom the king holdeth out the golden sceptre, then he hath lived; and I -- I have not been called to come in unto the king these thirty days.'

«Tutti i servitori del re e il popolo delle sue province sanno che se qualcuno, uomo o donna che sia, entra dal re nel cortile interno, senza essere stato chiamato, per una legge che è uguale per tutti, deve essere messo a morte, a meno che il re non stenda verso di lui il suo scettro d’oro; nel qual caso, ha salva la vita. E io sono già trenta giorni che non sono stata chiamata per andare dal re».

12 A nd they declare to Mordecai the words of Esther,

Le parole di Ester furono riferite a Mardocheo.

13 a nd Mordecai speaketh to send back unto Esther: `Do not think in thy soul to be delivered the house of the king, more than all the Jews,

E Mardocheo fece dare a Ester questa risposta: «Non metterti in mente che tu sola scamperai fra tutti i Giudei perché sei nella casa del re.

14 b ut if thou keep entirely silent at this time, respite and deliverance remaineth to the Jews from another place, and thou and the house of thy fathers are destroyed; and who knoweth whether for a time like this thou hast come to the kingdom?'

Infatti se oggi tu taci, soccorso e liberazione sorgeranno per i Giudei da qualche altra parte; ma tu e la casa di tuo padre perirete; e chi sa se non sei diventata regina appunto per un tempo come questo?»

15 A nd Esther speaketh to send back unto Mordecai:

Allora Ester ordinò che si rispondesse a Mardocheo:

16 ` Go, gather all the Jews who are found in Shushan, and fast for me, and do not eat nor drink three days, by night and by day; also I and my young women do fast likewise, and so I go in unto the king, that not according to law, and when I have perished -- I have perished.'

«Va’, raduna tutti i Giudei che si trovano a Susa, e digiunate per me, state senza mangiare e senza bere per tre giorni, notte e giorno. Anch’io con le mie ancelle digiunerò allo stesso modo; e dopo entrerò dal re, sebbene ciò sia contro la legge; e se io debbo perire, che io perisca!»

17 A nd Mordecai passeth on, and doth according to all that Esther hath charged upon him.

Mardocheo se ne andò e fece tutto quello che Ester gli aveva ordinato.
