1 ` In the third year of the reign of Belshazzar the king, a vision hath appeared unto me -- I Daniel -- after that which had appeared unto me at the beginning.

În al treilea an al domniei împăratului Belşaţar, mie, Daniel, mi s-a arătat o viziune, după cea care mi se arătase înainte.

2 A nd I see in a vision, and it cometh to pass, in my seeing, and I in Shushan the palace that in Elam the province, and I see in a vision, and I have been by the stream Ulai.

În viziunea aceasta, m-am văzut în capitala Susa, în provincia Elam; am mai văzut în viziune că eram pe malul râului Ulai.

3 A nd I lift up mine eyes, and look, and lo, a certain ram is standing before the stream, and it hath two horns, and the two horns high; and the one higher than the other, and the high one is coming up last.

Mi-am ridicat privirea, m-am uitat şi iată că lângă râu stătea un berbec cu două coarne. Coarnele acestea erau lungi, dar unul era mai lung decât celălalt, cel lung crescând la urmă.

4 I have seen the ram pushing westward, and northward, and southward, and no living creatures do stand before it, and there is none delivering out of its hand, and it hath done according to its pleasure, and hath exerted itself.

Am văzut cum berbecul împungea spre apus, spre nord şi spre sud. Nici un animal nu-i putea sta împotrivă şi nimeni nu putea scăpa de sub puterea lui. El făcea ce voia şi a ajuns puternic.

5 ` And I have been considering, and lo, a young he-goat hath come from the west, over the face of the whole earth, whom none is touching in the earth; as to the young he-goat, a conspicuous horn between its eyes.

În timp ce căutam să înţeleg aceste lucruri, iată că a venit un ţap din apus, străbătând toată suprafaţa pământului, fără să atingă însă pământul. Ţapul avea un corn impunător între ochi.

6 A nd it cometh unto the ram possessing the two horns, that I had seen standing before the stream, and runneth unto it in the fury of its power.

A venit până la berbecul care avea două coarne, pe care l-am văzut stând lângă râu, şi s-a năpustit asupra lui cu o furie năprasnică.

7 A nd I have seen it coming near the ram, and it becometh embittered at it, and smiteth the ram, and breaketh its two horns, and there hath been no power in the ram to stand before it, and it casteth it to the earth, and trampleth it down, and there hath been no deliverer to the ram out of its power.

L-am văzut cum s-a apropiat de berbec şi s-a întărâtat împotriva lui. Apoi a izbit berbecul şi i-a rupt cele două coarne, fără ca berbecul să fi avut putere să i se împotrivească. L-a trântit la pământ şi l-a călcat în picioare; şi nu a fost nimeni care să-l poată scăpa pe berbec de sub puterea ţapului.

8 ` And the young he-goat hath exerted itself very much, and when it is strong, broken hath been the great horn; and come up doth a vision of four in its place, at the four winds of the heavens.

Ţapul a continuat să crească în putere, dar, când a ajuns la culmea puterii sale, cornul cel mare i s-a rupt. În locul lui au ieşit alte patru coarne, impunătoare, înspre cele patru vânturi ale cerului.

9 A nd from the one of them come forth hath a little horn, and it exerteth itself greatly toward the south, and toward the east, and toward the beauteous;

Dintr-unul din ele a ieşit un corn mai mic, care a crescut peste măsură de mult spre sud, spre răsărit şi spre ţara cea minunată.

10 y ea, it exerteth unto the host of the heavens, and causeth to fall to the earth of the host, and of the stars, and trampleth them down.

S-a înălţat până la oştirea cerurilor, a aruncat la pământ o parte din oştire şi din stele şi le-a călcat în picioare.

11 A nd unto the prince of the host it exerteth itself, and by it taken away hath been the continual, and thrown down the base of his sanctuary.

S-a înălţat până la Căpetenia oştirii şi i-a luat jertfa continuă, iar locul Sanctuarului Lui a fost dărâmat.

12 A nd the host is given up, with the continual, through transgression, and it throweth down truth to the earth, and it hath worked, and prospered.

Oştirea şi jertfa continuă au fost date pe mâna lui din pricina nelegiuirii. Cornul a aruncat adevărul la pământ şi a reuşit în ceea ce a făcut.

13 ` And I hear a certain holy one speaking, and a certain holy one saith to the wonderful numberer who is speaking: Till when the vision of the continual, and of the transgression, an astonishment, to make both sanctuary and host a treading down?

Atunci am auzit un sfânt vorbind şi un alt sfânt întrebându-l pe cel ce vorbea: „În cât timp se va împlini viziunea despre jertfa continuă, despre nelegiuirea care a adus pustiire şi despre călcarea în picioare a Sfântului Lăcaş şi a oştirii?“

14 A nd he saith unto me, Till evening -- morning two thousand and three hundred, then is the holy place declared right.

El mi-a dat mie răspunsul: „Până vor trece două mii trei sute de seri şi dimineţi; apoi Sfântul Lăcaş va fi curăţit.“ Interpretarea viziunii

15 ` And it cometh to pass in my seeing -- I, Daniel -- the vision, that I require understanding, and lo, standing over-against me as the appearance of a mighty one.

În timp ce eu, Daniel, aveam viziunea aceasta şi căutam s-o înţeleg, iată că cineva, care era la înfăţişare ca un om, a apărut stând în picioare în faţa mea.

16 A nd I hear a voice of man between Ulai, and he calleth and saith: Gabriel, cause this to understand the appearance.

Am auzit un glas de om venind din mijlocul râului Ulai care striga şi zicea astfel: „Gabriele, fă-l să înţeleagă această viziune!“

17 A nd he cometh in near my station, and at his coming in I have been afraid, and I fall on my face, and he saith unto me: Understand, son of man, for at the time of the end the vision.

Când a venit lângă locul unde eram, m-am înspăimântat şi am căzut cu faţa la pământ. El mi-a zis: „Înţelege, fiul omului, că viziunea este cu privire la vremea sfârşitului!“

18 A nd in his speaking with me, I have been in a trance on my face, on the earth; and he cometh against me, and causeth me to stand on my station,

Când mi-a vorbit, am căzut leşinat cu faţa la pământ. El m-a atins şi m-a ridicat iarăşi în picioare în locul unde mă aflam.

19 a nd saith: Lo, I -- I am causing thee to know that which is in the latter end of the indignation; for, at the appointed time the end.

Apoi mi-a zis astfel: „Iată, îţi voi spune ce se va întâmpla în vremea de apoi a mâniei, căci viziunea se referă la vremea hotărâtă sfârşitului.

20 ` The ram that thou hast seen possessing two horns, the kings of Media and Persia.

Berbecul pe care l-ai văzut, cu cele două coarne, îi înfăţişează pe împăraţii Mediei şi Persiei.

21 A nd the young he-goat, the hairy one, the king of Javan; and the great horn that between its eyes is the first king;

Ţapul cel aprig este împăratul Greciei. Cornul cel mare, care era între ochii lui, este primul împărat.

22 a nd that being broken, stand up do four in its place, four kingdoms from the nation do stand up, and not in its power.

Faptul că acest corn a fost frânt şi că în locul lui s-au ridicat altele patru înseamnă că din neamul aceasta se vor ridica patru împărăţii, dar nu vor avea puterea ei.

23 ` And in the latter end of their kingdom, about the perfecting of the transgressors, stand up doth a king, fierce of face, and understanding hidden things;

La sfârşitul domniei lor, când păcatele răzvrătiţilor vor fi la culme, se va ridica un împărat semeţ şi iscusit în uneltiri.

24 a nd his power hath been mighty, and not by his own power; and wonderful things he destroyeth, and he hath prospered, and wrought, and destroyed mighty ones, and the people of the Holy Ones.

El va fi puternic, dar nu prin propria-i putere; va face pustiiri de necrezut şi va reuşi în ceea ce va face. Îi va nimici pe cei puternici şi pe poporul sfinţilor.

25 ` And by his understanding he hath also caused deceit to prosper in his hand, and in his heart he exerteth himself, and by ease he destroyeth many; and against the prince of princes he standeth -- and without hand he is broken.

Datorită vicleniei lui, va face înşelăciunea să biruiască prin mâna lui şi apoi se va mândri în inima lui. Va distruge pe mulţi care se credeau în siguranţă şi va sta chiar împotriva Căpeteniei căpeteniilor, dar va fi zdrobit, fără ajutorul vreunei mâini omeneşti.

26 A nd the appearance of the evening and of the morning, that is told, is true; and thou, hide thou the vision, for after many days.'

Cât despre viziunea cu serile şi dimineţile, care ţi s-a spus, ea este adevărată. Tu însă tăinuieşte viziunea, căci este cu privire la nişte zile îndepărtate“.

27 A nd I, Daniel, have been, yea, I became sick days, and I rise, and do the king's work, and am astonished at the appearance, and there is none understanding.

Eu, Daniel, am fost istovit şi bolnav câteva zile, dar apoi m-am sculat şi m-am ocupat de treburile împăratului. Eram uimit din pricina viziunii pe care nimeni nu o putea înţelege.
