1 A nd there riseth after Abimelech, to save Israel, Tola son of Puah, son of Dodo, a man of Issachar, and he is dwelling in Shamir, in the hill-country of Ephraim,

După Abimelek, cel care s-a ridicat să elibereze pe Israel a fost Tola, fiul lui Pua, fiul lui Dodo, un bărbat din Isahar. El locuia în Şamir, în regiunea muntoasă a lui Efraim.

2 a nd he judgeth Israel twenty and three years, and he dieth, and is buried in Shamir.

El a judecat Israelul timp de douăzeci şi trei de ani. Apoi a murit şi a fost îngropat la Şamir.

3 A nd there riseth after him Jair the Gileadite, and he judgeth Israel twenty and two years,

După el s-a ridicat ghiladitul Iair. El a judecat Israelul timp de douăzeci şi doi de ani.

4 a nd he hath thirty sons riding on thirty ass-colts, and they have thirty cities, (they call them Havoth-Jair unto this day), which in the land of Gilead;

Acesta avea treizeci de fii care călăreau pe treizeci de măgari; ei aveau treizeci de sate. Şi azi ele sunt numite Havot-Iair şi se află în ţinutul Ghiladului.

5 a nd Jair dieth, and is buried in Kamon.

Iair a murit şi a fost îngropat la Kamon. Oprimarea filisteană şi amonită

6 A nd the sons of Israel add to do the evil thing in the eyes of Jehovah, and serve the Baalim, and Ashtaroth, and the gods of Aram, and the gods of Zidon, and the gods of Moab, and the gods of the Bene-Ammon, and the gods of the Philistines, and forsake Jehovah, and have not served Him;

Israeliţii au făcut din nou ce este rău în ochii Domnului şi au slujit baalilor şi aştoretelor, zeilor Aramului, zeilor Sidonului, zeilor Moabului, zeilor amoniţilor şi zeilor filistenilor. L-au părăsit pe Domnul şi nu I-au mai slujit.

7 a nd the anger of Jehovah burneth against Israel, and He selleth them into the hand of the Philistines, and into the hand of the Bene-Ammon,

Atunci Domnul s-a aprins de mânie împotriva lui Israel şi El i-a vândut în mâinile filistenilor şi amoniţilor.

8 a nd they crush and oppress the sons of Israel in that year -- eighteen years all the sons of Israel are beyond the Jordan, in the land of the Amorite, which in Gilead.

Începând cu acel an, ei i-au persecutat şi i-au asuprit pe israeliţi timp de optsprezece ani – pe acei israeliţi care erau dincolo de Iordan, pe teritoriul amoriţilor, în Ghilad.

9 A nd the Bene-Ammon pass over the Jordan to fight also against Judah, and against Benjamin, and against the house of Ephraim, and Israel hath great distress.

Amoniţii au trecut Iordanul ca să se lupte împotriva seminţiei lui Iuda, împotriva seminţiei lui Beniamin şi a Casei lui Efraim. Din această cauză Israel era într-o mare strâmtorare.

10 A nd the sons of Israel cry unto Jehovah, saying, `We have sinned against Thee, even because we have forsaken our God, and serve the Baalim.'

Atunci israeliţii au cerut ajutor Domnului, zicând: – Am păcătuit împotriva Ta căci Te-am părăsit pe Tine, Dumnezeul nostru, şi am slujit baalilor!

11 A nd Jehovah saith unto the sons of Israel, ` not from the Egyptians, and from the Amorite, from the Bene-Ammon, and from the Philistines?

Domnul le-a zis israeliţilor: – Oare nu Eu sunt Acela Care v-am izbăvit de egipteni, de amoriţi, de amoniţi şi de filisteni?

12 A nd the Zidonians, and Amalek, and Maon have oppressed you, and ye cry unto Me, and I save you out of their hand;

Atunci când v-au asuprit sidonienii, amalekiţii şi maoniţii şi Mi-aţi cerut ajutor, nu Eu v-am izbăvit din mâna lor?

13 a nd ye -- ye have forsaken Me, and serve other gods, therefore I add not to save you.

Dar voi M-aţi părăsit şi aţi slujit altor dumnezei! De aceea nu vă voi mai izbăvi din nou!

14 G o and cry unto the gods on which ye have fixed; they -- they save you in the time of your adversity.'

Duceţi-vă şi strigaţi la zeii pe care vi i-aţi ales! Să vă izbăvească ei în vremea necazului vostru!

15 A nd the sons of Israel say unto Jehovah, `We have sinned, do Thou to us according to all that is good in Thine eyes; only deliver us, we pray Thee, this day.'

Israeliţii I-au zis Domnului: – Am păcătuit! Fă-ne ce vei vrea, numai Te rugăm, izbăveşte-ne astăzi!

16 A nd they turn aside the gods of the stranger out of their midst, and serve Jehovah, and His soul is grieved with the misery of Israel.

Apoi au renunţat la zei şi au slujit Domnului, iar El s-a îndurat de necazul lui Israel.

17 A nd the Bene-Ammon are called together, and encamp in Gilead, and the sons of Israel are gathered together, and encamp in Mizpah.

Când amoniţii s-au strâns pentru luptă şi au venit în Ghilad, israeliţii s-au grupat şi şi-au aşezat tabăra la Miţpa.

18 A nd the people -- heads of Gilead -- say one unto another, `Who the man that doth begin to fight against the Bene-Ammon? he is for head to all inhabitants of Gilead.'

Poporul şi căpeteniile Ghiladului şi-au zis unul altuia: „Acela care va conduce lupta împotriva amoniţilor va fi căpetenia tuturor ghiladiţilor!“
