1 A nd the Philistines gather all their camps to Aphek, and the Israelites are encamping at a fountain which in Jezreel,

Filistenii şi-au adunat toate trupele la Afek, în timp ce israeliţii şi-au aşezat tabăra în apropiere de izvorul care se află în Izreel.

2 a nd the princes of the Philistines are passing on by hundreds, and by thousands, and David and his men are passing on in the rear with Achish.

Domnitorii filistenilor mărşăluiau cu sutele şi miile lor, iar David cu oamenii lui mărşăluiau în urmă, cu Achiş.

3 A nd the heads of the Philistines say, `What these Hebrews?' and Achish saith unto the heads of the Philistines, `Is not this David servant of Saul king of Israel, who hath been with me these days or these years, and I have not found in him anything from the day of his falling away till this day.'

Conducătorii filistenilor însă au zis: – Ce caută evreii aceştia aici? Achiş le-a răspuns: – Acesta este David, slujitorul lui Saul, regele lui Israel. El este la mine de mai bine de un an şi, de când a venit la mine şi până astăzi, nu am găsit în el nici un lucru de care să-l învinuiesc.

4 A nd the heads of the Philistines are wroth against him, and the heads of the Philistines say to him, `Send back the man, and he doth turn back unto his place whither thou hast appointed him, and doth not go down with us into battle, and is not to us for an adversary in battle; and wherewith doth this one reconcile himself unto his lord -- is it not with the heads of those men?'

Dar conducătorii filistenilor s-au mâniat pe el şi i-au zis: – Trimite-l pe omul acesta înapoi, ca să se întoarcă la locul în care l-ai aşezat, ca nu cumva să ne devină duşman în timpul luptei. Căci, cum ar putea el să se facă din nou plăcut stăpânului său? Oare nu cu capetele oamenilor noştri?

5 I s not this David, of whom they answer in choruses, saying, Saul hath smitten among his thousands, and David among his myriads?'

Nu este acesta David, despre care cântau dansând: „Saul a ucis miile lui, iar David zecile lui de mii?“

6 A nd Achish calleth unto David, and saith unto him, `Jehovah liveth, surely thou upright, and good in mine eyes is thy going out, and thy coming in, with me in the camp, for I have not found in thee evil from the day of thy coming in unto me till this day; and in the eyes of the princes thou art not good;

Achiş l-a chemat pe David şi i-a zis: – Viu este Domnul că ai fost drept şi îmi place să te văd slujindu-mi în oştire. Nu am găsit în tine nimic rău din ziua venirii tale la mine şi până astăzi. Însă nu eşti pe placul domnitorilor.

7 a nd now, turn back, and go in peace, and thou dost do no evil in the eyes of the princes of the Philistines.'

Întoarce-te acum şi mergi în pace, pentru ca să nu faci ceva care să nu placă domnitorilor filistenilor.

8 A nd David saith unto Achish, `But what have I done? and what hast thou found in thy servant from the day that I have been before thee till this day -- that I go not in and have fought against the enemies of my lord the king?'

Însă David i-a răspuns lui Achiş: – Dar, ce am făcut? Ce rău ai găsit la slujitorul tău, începând din ziua în care am intrat în slujba ta şi până astăzi, de nu pot să merg să lupt împotriva duşmanilor stăpânului meu, regele?

9 A nd Achish answereth and saith unto David, `I have known that thou good in mine eyes as a messenger of God; only, the princes of the Philistines have said, He doth not go up with us into battle;

Achiş i-a răspuns: – Ştiu că în ochii mei eşti atât de plăcut ca un înger al lui Dumnezeu; totuşi conducătorii filistenilor au zis: „Să nu vină cu noi în luptă!“

10 a nd now, rise thou early in the morning, and the servants of thy lord who have come with thee, when ye have risen early in the morning, and have light, then go ye.'

Deci, mâine dimineaţă să te trezeşti devreme, împreună cu slujitorii stăpânului tău, care au venit cu tine şi să plecaţi de îndată ce se luminează.

11 A nd David riseth early, he and his men, to go in the morning, to turn back unto the land of the Philistines, and the Philistines have gone up to Jezreel.

David şi oamenii lui s-au trezit devreme ca să plece de dimineaţă şi să se întoarcă în ţara filistenilor, iar filistenii s-au dus la Izreel.
