1 A nd the king sendeth, and they gather unto him all the elders of Judah and Jerusalem,

Atunci regele Iosia i-a strâns la el pe toţi cei din sfatul bătrânilor lui Iuda şi ai Ierusalimului.

2 a nd the king goeth up to the house of Jehovah, and every man of Judah, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, with him, and the priests, and the prophets, and all the people, from small unto great, and he readeth in their ears all the words of the book of the covenant that is found in the house of Jehovah.

Apoi s-a dus la Casa Domnului împreună cu toţi bărbaţii lui Iuda, cu toţi locuitorii Ierusalimului, cu preoţii şi cu profeţii, cu întreg poporul, de la mic la mare, şi a citit în auzul lor toate cuvintele Cărţii Legământului, care a fost găsită în Casa Domnului.

3 A nd the king standeth by the pillar, and maketh the covenant before Jehovah, to walk after Jehovah, and to keep His commands, and His testimonies, and His statutes, with all the heart, and with all the soul, to establish the words of this covenant that are written on this book, and all the people stand in the covenant.

Regele a stat în picioare lângă stâlpul său şi a încheiat un legământ înaintea Domnului, hotărându -se să-L urmeze pe Domnul şi să păzească poruncile, mărturiile şi hotărârile Lui din toată inima şi din tot sufletul lui, împlinind astfel cuvintele acestui legământ, scrise în cartea aceasta. Şi tot poporul a intrat în legământ.

4 A nd the king commandeth Hilkiah the high priest, and the priests of the second order, and the keepers of the threshold, to bring out from the temple of Jehovah all the vessels that are made for Baal, and for the shrine, and for all the host of the heavens, and he burneth them at the outside of Jerusalem, in the fields of Kidron, and hath borne their ashes to Beth-El.

Regele a poruncit marelui preot Hilchia, preoţilor de rangul al doilea şi paznicilor porţii să scoată din Templul Domnului toate obiectele care fuseseră făcute pentru Baal, pentru Aşera şi pentru toată oştirea cerurilor. Şi el le-a ars în afara Ierusalimului, în valea Chidron, iar cenuşa le-a dus-o la Betel.

5 A nd he hath caused to cease the idolatrous priests whom the kings of Judah have appointed, (and they make perfume in high places, in cities of Judah and suburbs of Jerusalem,) and those making perfume to Baal, to the sun, and to the moon, and to the planets, and to all the host of the heavens.

A îndepărtat preoţii păgâni care au fost puşi de regii lui Iuda să ardă tămâie pe înălţimi, în cetăţile lui Iuda şi împrejurul Ierusalimului. De asemenea, a izgonit pe cei ce ardeau tămâie lui Baal, soarelui, lunii, stelelor şi întregii oştiri a cerurilor.

6 A nd he bringeth out the shrine from the house of Jehovah to the outside of Jerusalem, unto the brook Kidron, and burneth it at the brook Kidron, and beateth it small to dust, and casteth its dust on the grave of the sons of the people.

A scos stâlpul Aşerei din Casa Domnului şi l-a dus la uedul Chidron, în afara Ierusalimului; l-a ars lângă uedul Chidron, prefăcându-l în cenuşă şi i-a împrăştiat cenuşa pe mormintele fiilor poporului.

7 A nd he breaketh down the houses of the whoremongers that in the house of Jehovah, where the women are weaving houses for the shrine.

A dărâmat locuinţele bărbaţilor care se prostituau, care erau în Casa Domnului şi unde femeile împleteau corturi pentru Aşera.

8 A nd he bringeth in all the priests out of the cities of Judah, and defileth the high places where the priests have made perfume, from Geba unto Beer-Sheba, and hath broken down the high places of the gates that at the opening of the gate of Joshua, head of the city, that on a man's left hand at the gate of the city;

Iosia i-a izgonit pe toţi preoţii din cetăţile lui Iuda şi a distrus înălţimile unde preoţii ardeau tămâie, de la Gheva până la Beer-Şeba. A dărâmat, de asemenea, înălţimile de la porţi, cele care erau la intrarea porţii lui Iosua, conducătorul cetăţii, în partea stângă a porţii cetăţii.

9 o nly, the priests of the high places come not up unto the altar of Jehovah in Jerusalem, but they have eaten unleavened things in the midst of their brethren.

10 A nd he hath defiled Topheth, that in the valley of the son of Hinnom, so that no man doth cause his son and his daughter to pass over through fire to Molech.

Regele a pângărit, de asemenea, Tofetul, care este în Valea Hinomiţilor, pentru ca nimeni să nu-şi mai treacă fiul sau fiica prin foc pentru Moleh.

11 A nd he causeth to cease the horses that the kings of Judah have given to the sun from the entering in of the house of Jehovah, by the chamber of Nathan-Melech the eunuch, that in the suburbs, and the chariots of the sun he hath burnt with fire.

El a îndepărtat de la intrarea Casei Domnului caii pe care regii lui Iuda îi închinaseră soarelui. Ei erau lângă odaia din curte a unui demnitar pe nume Natan-Melek. Apoi Iosia a ars carele închinate soarelui.

12 A nd the altars that on the top of the upper chamber of Ahaz, that the kings of Judah made, and the altars that Manasseh made in the two courts of the house of Jehovah, hath the king broken down, and removeth thence, and hath cast their dust unto the brook Kidron.

Regele a dărâmat altarele pe care le făcuseră regii lui Iuda pe acoperişul odăii de sus a lui Ahaz, precum şi altarele pe care le făcuse Manase în cele două curţi ale Casei Domnului. Le-a luat de acolo şi le-a aruncat molozul în uedul Chidron.

13 A nd the high places that on the front of Jerusalem, that on the right of the mount of corruption, that Solomon king of Israel had built to Ashtoreth abomination of the Zidonians, and Chemosh abomination of Moab, and to Milcom abomination of the sons of Ammon, hath the king defiled.

Regele a pângărit înălţimile care erau în faţa Ierusalimului, în partea dreaptă a Muntelui Depravării, pe care le construise Solomon, regele lui Israel, pentru Aştoret, urâciunea sidonienilor, pentru Chemoş, urâciunea Moabului, şi pentru Milcom, urâciunea amoniţilor.

14 A nd he hath broken in pieces the standing-pillars, and cutteth down the shrines, and filleth their place with bones of men;

A zdrobit stâlpii sacri, a dărâmat aşerele şi a umplut locurile lor cu oase de oameni.

15 a nd also the altar that in Beth-El, the high place that Jeroboam son of Nebat made, by which he made Israel sin, both that altar and the high place he hath broken down, and doth burn the high place -- he hath beat it small to dust, and hath burnt the shrine.

El a dărâmat chiar şi altarul care era la Betel, precum şi înălţimea pe care o făcuse Ieroboam, fiul lui Nebat, cel care l-a făcut pe Israel să păcătuiască – a dărâmat deci atât altarul, cât şi înălţimea. El a dat foc atât înălţimii, prefăcând-o în cenuşă, cât şi stâlpului Aşerei.

16 A nd Josiah turneth, and seeth the graves that there in the mount, and sendeth and taketh the bones out of the graves, and burneth on the altar, and defileth it, according to the word of Jehovah that the man of God proclaimed, who proclaimed these things.

Când Iosia a privit în jur şi a văzut mormintele care erau acolo, pe deal, a trimis să ia oasele din morminte. A ars oasele pe altar, pângărindu-l după Cuvântul Domnului, rostit prin omul lui Dumnezeu, care vestise aceste lucruri.

17 A nd he saith, `What this sign that I see?' and the men of the city say unto him, `The grave of the man of God who hath come from Judah, and proclaimeth these things that thou hast done concerning the altar of Beth-El.'

La un moment dat el a întrebat: – Al cui este mormântul aceasta din piatră, pe care îl văd? Oamenii cetăţii i-au răspuns: – Acesta este mormântul omului lui Dumnezeu, care a venit din Iuda şi a profeţit împotriva altarului din Betel aceste lucruri pe care le-ai făcut.

18 A nd he saith, `Let him alone, let no man touch his bones;' and they let his bones escape, with the bones of the prophet who came out of Samaria.

– Lăsaţi-l şi nimeni să nu-i mişte oasele! a zis el. Ei au lăsat oasele lui împreună cu ale profetului care venise din Samaria.

19 A nd also all the houses of the high places that in the cities of Samaria, that the kings of Israel made to provoke to anger, hath Josiah turned aside, and doth to them according to all the deeds that he did in Beth-El.

De asemenea, Iosia a mai îndepărtat toate templele care erau pe înălţimile din cetăţile Samariei, pe care le zidiseră regii lui Israel ca să-L mânie pe Domnul. A făcut cu ele întocmai cum făcuse la Betel.

20 A nd he slayeth all the priests of the high places who there by the altars, and burneth the bones of man upon them, and turneth back to Jerusalem.

Iosia i-a înjunghiat pe altare pe toţi preoţii înălţimilor care erau acolo şi a ars pe ele oase de oameni. Apoi s-a întors la Ierusalim.

21 A nd the king commandeth the whole of the people, saying, `Make ye a passover to Jehovah your God, as it is written on this book of the covenant.'

Regele a poruncit întregului popor următoarele: „Sărbătoriţi Paştele Domnului, Dumnezeul vostru, aşa cum este scris în această Carte a Legământului!“

22 S urely there hath not been made like this passover from the days of the judges who judged Israel, even all the days of the kings of Israel, and of the kings of Judah;

Paşte ca acesta nu se mai sărbătorise din perioada judecătorilor care judecau pe Israel şi nici chiar în toată perioada regilor lui Israel şi a regilor lui Iuda.

23 b ut in the eighteenth year of king Josiah, hath this passover been made to Jehovah in Jerusalem.

Abia în al optsprezecelea an al domniei regelui Iosia, acest Paşte a fost sărbătorit în cinstea Domnului la Ierusalim.

24 A nd also, those having familiar spirits, and the wizards, and the teraphim, and the idols, and all the abominations that were seen in the land of Judah, and in Jerusalem, hath Josiah put away, in order to establish the words of the law that are written on the book that Hilkiah the priest hath found in the house of Jehovah.

Iosia a mai îndepărtat pe cei care cheamă duhurile morţilor şi pe cei care se ocupă cu descântece, terafimii, idolii şi toate celelalte urâciuni care se puteau vedea pe teritoriul lui Iuda şi la Ierusalim, împlinind astfel cuvintele Legii scrise în Cartea pe care o găsise preotul Hilchia în Casa Domnului.

25 A nd like him there hath not been before him a king who turned back unto Jehovah with all his heart, and with all his soul, and with all his might, according to all the law of Moses, and after him there hath none risen like him.

Nici unul dintre înaintaşii lui Iosia nu a fost ca el, adică să se întoarcă la Domnul din toată inima, din tot sufletul şi cu toată puterea lui, aşa cum zice toată Legea lui Moise. Şi nici după aceea nu s-a ridicat nimeni ca el.

26 O nly, Jehovah hath not turned back from the fierceness of His great anger with which His anger burned against Judah, because of all the provocations with which Manasseh provoked him,

Totuşi Domnul nu S-a întors din înverşunarea mâniei Lui celei mari, mânie care era aprinsă împotriva lui Iuda din cauza tuturor faptelor prin care Îl mâniase Manase.

27 a nd Jehovah saith, `Also Judah I turn aside from my presence, as I turned Israel aside, and I have rejected this city that I have chosen -- Jerusalem, and the house of which I said, My name is there.'

Şi Domnul a zis: „Voi îndepărta pe Iuda din prezenţa Mea, cum am îndepărtat pe Israel şi voi lepăda atât această cetate, Ierusalimul, pe care l-am ales, cât şi Casa despre care ziceam că acolo va fi Numele Meu.“

28 A nd the rest of the matters of Josiah, and all that he did, are they not written on the book of the Chronicles of the kings of Judah?

Celelalte fapte ale lui Iosia şi tot ce a făcut el, nu sunt scrise oare în „Cartea cronicilor regilor lui Iuda“?

29 I n his days hath Pharaoh-Nechoh king of Egypt come up against the king of Asshur, by the river Phrat, and king Josiah goeth out to meet him, and he putteth him to death in Megiddo, when he seeth him.

Pe vremea sa, faraonul Neco, monarhul Egiptului, a înaintat la râul Eufrat, la împăratul Asiriei. Regele Iosia i-a ieşit împotrivă. Neco l-a înfruntat la Meghido şi l-a ucis.

30 A nd his servants cause him to ride dying from Megiddo, and bring him in to Jerusalem, and bury him in his own grave, and the people of the land take Jehoahaz son of Josiah, and anoint him, and cause him to reign instead of his father.

Slujitorii lui l-au luat mort din Meghido, l-au adus într-un car la Ierusalim şi l-au înmormântat în mormântul său. Apoi poporul ţării l-a luat pe Iehoahaz, fiul lui Iosia, şi l-a uns făcându-l rege în locul tatălui său. Domnia lui Iehoahaz peste Iuda

31 A son of twenty and three years Jehoahaz in his reigning, and three months he hath reigned in Jerusalem, and the name of his mother Hamutal daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah,

Iehoahaz era în vârstă de douăzeci şi trei de ani când a devenit rege şi a domnit la Ierusalim timp de trei luni. Mama sa se numea Hamutal şi era fiica lui Ieremia din Libna.

32 a nd he doth the evil thing in the eyes of Jehovah, according to all that his fathers did,

El a făcut ce este rău înaintea Domnului, tot aşa cum făcuseră şi strămoşii săi.

33 a nd Pharaoh-Nechoh bindeth him in Riblah, in the land of Hamath, from reigning in Jerusalem, and he putteth a fine on the land -- a hundred talents of silver, and a talent of gold.

Faraonul Neco l-a pus în lanţuri la Ribla, în ţara Hamat, ca să nu mai domnească în Ierusalim. Apoi a pus peste ţară un tribut de o sută de talanţi de argint şi un talant de aur.

34 A nd Pharaoh-Nechoh causeth Eliakim son of Josiah to reign instead of Josiah his father, and turneth his name to Jehoiakim, and Jehoahaz he hath taken away, and he cometh in to Egypt, and dieth there.

Faraonul Neco l-a pus rege pe Eliachim, fiul lui Iosia, în locul tatălui său şi i-a schimbat numele în Iehoiachim. Iar pe Iehoahaz l-a luat şi l-a dus în Egipt, unde a şi murit.

35 A nd the silver and the gold hath Jehoiakim given to Pharaoh; only he valued the land to give the silver by the command of Pharaoh; from each, according to his valuation, he exacted the silver and the gold, from the people of the land, to give to Pharaoh-Nechoh.

Iehoiachim i-a dat faraonului aurul şi argintul, însă el a împovărat ţara pentru a putea da argintul cerut de faraon. A hotărât fiecărui om o anumită parte, dând astfel faraonului Neco argintul şi aurul luat de la poporul ţării. Domnia lui Iehoiachim peste Iuda

36 A son of twenty and five years Jehoiakim in his reigning, and eleven years he hath reigned in Jerusalem, and the name of his mother Zebudah daughter of Pedaiah of Rumah,

Iehoiachim era în vârstă de douăzeci şi cinci de ani când a devenit rege şi a domnit la Ierusalim timp de unsprezece ani. Mama sa se numea Zebida şi era fiica lui Pedaia din Ruma.

37 a nd he doth the evil thing in the eyes of Jehovah, according to all that his fathers did.

El a făcut ce este rău în ochii Domnului, tot aşa cum făcuseră şi strămoşii săi.
