1 A nd it cometh to pass in the days of Ahaz, son of Jotham, son of Uzziah, king of Judah, gone up hath Rezin king of Aram, and Pekah, son of Remaliah, king of Israel, to Jerusalem, to battle against it, and he is not able to fight against it.

În perioada când Ahaz, fiul lui Iotam, fiul lui Uzia, era rege peste Iuda, Reţin, regele Aramului, împreună cu Pekah, fiul lui Remalia şi rege peste Israel, au asediat Ierusalimul, dar n-au reuşit să-l cucerească.

2 A nd it is declared to the house of David, saying, `Aram hath been led towards Ephraim,' And his heart and the heart of his people is moved, like the moving of trees of a forest by the presence of wind.

Când Casa lui David a aflat că Aram s-a aliat cu Efraim, inima lui Ahaz şi a poporului său a început să tremure aşa cum tremură copacii din pădure din pricina vântului.

3 A nd Jehovah saith unto Isaiah, `Go forth, I pray thee, to meet Ahaz, thou, and Shear-Jashub thy son, unto the end of the conduit of the upper pool, unto the highway of the fuller's field,

Atunci Domnul i-a zis lui Isaia: – Du-te împreună cu fiul tău Şear-Iaşub ca să-l întâlneşti pe Ahaz, la capătul canalului de apă al Iazului de Sus, pe drumul către Ogorul Spălătorului

4 a nd thou hast said unto him: `Take heed, and be quiet, fear not, And let not thy heart be timid, Because of these two tails of smoking brands, For the fierceness of the anger of Rezin and Aram, And the son of Remaliah.

şi spune-i: „Fii cu băgare de seamă, stai liniştit şi nu te teme! Nu te lăsa copleşit din cauza acestor doi tăciuni fumegânzi, din cauza mâniei aprige a lui Reţin, a lui Aram şi a fiului lui Remalia.

5 B ecause that Aram counselled against thee evil, Ephraim and the son of Remaliah, saying:

Într-adevăr, Aram, împreună cu Efraim şi cu fiul lui Remalia, uneltesc împotriva ta, zicând:

6 W e go up into Judah, and we vex it, And we rend it unto ourselves, And we cause a king to reign in its midst -- The son of Tabeal.

«Să atacăm Iuda, s-o sfâşiem şi s-o împărţim între noi, iar pe fiul lui Tabeel să-l punem rege peste ea!»

7 T hus said the Lord Jehovah: It doth not stand, nor shall it be!

Stăpânul Domn însă spune astfel: «Aşa ceva nu se va întâmpla, nu va avea loc,

8 F or the head of Aram Damascus, And the head of Damascus Rezin, And within sixty and five years Is Ephraim broken from a people.

pentru că Damascul este capitala Aramului, iar căpetenia Damascului este Reţin. În ceea ce-l priveşte pe Efraim, în şaizeci şi cinci de ani va fi prea împrăştiat ca să mai fie un popor.

9 A nd the head of Ephraim Samaria, And the head of Samaria the son of Remaliah. If ye do not give credence, Surely ye are not stedfast.'

Samaria este capitala lui Efraim, iar căpetenia Samariei este fiul lui Remalia. Dacă nu veţi sta fermi în credinţă, nu veţi mai sta deloc!»“

10 A nd Jehovah addeth to speak unto Ahaz, saying:

Domnul i-a vorbit lui Ahaz din nou:

11 ` Ask for thee a sign from Jehovah thy God, Make deep the request, or make high upwards.'

– Cere-I Domnului, Dumnezeul tău, un semn, fie acesta în adâncimile Locuinţei Morţilor, fie în înălţimile cerului.

12 A nd Ahaz saith, `I do not ask nor try Jehovah.'

Dar Ahaz a răspuns: – Nu voi cere! Nu-L voi pune la încercare pe Domnul!

13 A nd he saith, `Hear, I pray you, O house of David, Is it a little thing for you to weary men, That ye weary also my God?

Atunci Isaia a zis: – Ascultă dar, Casă a lui David! Nu vă ajunge că încercaţi răbdarea oamenilor? O veţi încerca şi pe a Dumnezeului meu?

14 T herefore the Lord Himself giveth to you a sign, Lo, the Virgin is conceiving, And is bringing forth a son, And hath called his name Immanuel,

De aceea Însuşi Stăpânul vă va da un semn. Iată, fecioara va rămâne însărcinată, va naşte un Fiu şi îi va pune numele Emanuel.

15 B utter and honey he doth eat, When he knoweth to refuse evil, and to fix on good.

El va mânca smântână şi miere până va şti cum să respingă răul şi să aleagă binele.

16 F or before the youth doth know To refuse evil, and to fix on good, Forsaken is the land thou art vexed with, because of her two kings.

Dar, înainte de a şti copilul cum să respingă răul şi să aleagă binele, ţara celor doi regi de care te temi va fi pustiită.

17 J ehovah bringeth on thee, and on thy people, And on the house of thy father, Days that have not come, Even from the day of the turning aside of Ephraim from Judah, By the king of Asshur.

Domnul va aduce peste tine, peste poporul tău şi peste casa ta vremuri cum n-au mai fost din perioada când Efraim s-a despărţit de Iuda – El îl va aduce pe împăratul Asiriei.

18 A nd it hath come to pass, in that day, Jehovah doth hiss for a fly that in the extremity of the brooks of Egypt, And for a bee that in the land of Asshur.

Se va-ntâmpla în ziua aceea că Domnul va şuiera muştelor de la izvoarele râurilor Egiptului şi albinelor din Asiria.

19 A nd they have come, and rested all of them in the desolate valleys, And in holes of the rocks, and on all the thorns, And on all the commendable things.

Ele vor veni şi se vor aşeza, toate, în vâlcelele abrupte, în crăpăturile stâncilor, pe toţi mărăcinii şi pe toate păşunile.

20 I n that day doth the Lord shave, By a razor that is hired beyond the river, By the king of Asshur, The head, and the hair of the feet, Yea, also the beard it consumeth.

În ziua aceea Stăpânul va rade cu un brici împrumutat de dincolo de râu, cu împăratul Asiriei, capul, părul de pe picioare şi chiar barba.

21 A nd it hath come to pass, in that day, A man keepeth alive a heifer of the herd, And two of the flock,

În ziua aceea un om va îngriji doar o juncă şi două oi,

22 A nd it hath come to pass, From the abundance of the yielding of milk he eateth butter, For butter and honey doth every one eat Who is left in the heart of the land.

dar, pentru că vor da lapte din belşug, el va avea smântână să mănânce; oricine va fi lăsat în ţară va mânca smântână şi miere.

23 A nd it hath come to pass, in that day, Every place where there are a thousand vines, At a thousand silverlings, Is for briers and for thorns.

În ziua aceea, în orice loc unde erau o mie de butuci de vie, preţuind o mie de şecheli de argint, vor fi doar mărăcini şi spini;

24 W ith arrows and with bow he cometh thither, Because all the land is brier and thorn.

Oamenii vor intra acolo cu arcuri şi săgeţi, pentru că toată ţara va fi numai mărăcini şi spini.

25 A nd all the hills that with a mattock are kept in order, Thither cometh not the fear of brier and thorn, And it hath been for the sending forth of ox, And for the treading of sheep!'

În ce priveşte toate dealurile, care odinioară erau cultivate, nu vei mai merge pe acolo de frica mărăcinilor şi a spinilor; acestea vor fi păscute de vite şi călcate în picioare de oi.
