1 T he word that Jehovah hath spoken concerning Babylon, concerning the land of the Chaldeans, by the hand of Jeremiah the prophet:

Acesta este cuvântul rostit de Domnul prin profetul Ieremia, cu privire la Babilon şi la ţara caldeenilor:

2 ` Declare ye among nations, and sound, And lift up an ensign, sound, do not hide, Say ye: Captured hath been Babylon, Put to shame hath been Bel, Broken hath been Merodach, Put to shame have been her grievous things, Broken have been her idols.

„Daţi de ştire şi vestiţi printre neamuri! Înălţaţi un steag şi vestiţi! Nu ascundeţi nimic, ci spuneţi că Babilonul va fi cucerit, Bel va fi dat de ruşine şi Marduk va fi umplut de spaimă! Imaginile lui cioplite vor fi date de ruşine şi idolii lui vor fi umpluţi de spaimă!

3 F or come up against her hath a nation from the north, It maketh her land become a desolation, And there is not an inhabitant in it. From man even unto beast, They have moved, they have gone.

Un neam din nord îi va ataca şi le va preface ţara într-un pustiu. Nimeni nu va mai locui în ea! Atât oamenii, cât şi animalele vor fugi din ea.

4 I n those days, and at that time, An affirmation of Jehovah, Come in do sons of Israel, They and sons of Judah together, Going on and weeping they go, And Jehovah their God they seek.

În zilele acelea şi în vremea aceea, zice Domnul, israeliţii împreună cu cei din Iuda vor veni şi vor umbla plângând şi-L vor căuta pe Domnul, Dumnezeul lor.

5 Z ion they ask the way, Thitherward their faces: Come in, and we are joined unto Jehovah, A covenant age-during -- not forgotten.

Vor întreba care este drumul Sionului şi îşi vor întoarce privirile spre el. Vor veni şi se vor alipi de Domnul printr-un legământ veşnic, care nu va fi uitat niciodată!

6 A perishing flock hath My people been, Their shepherds have caused them to err, the mountains causing them to go back, From mountain unto hill they have gone, They have forgotten their crouching-place.

Poporul Meu era ca o turmă de oi pierdute, pe care păstorii lor le abăteau din cale şi le făceau să rătăcească prin munţi. Treceau de pe munţi pe dealuri şi îşi uitaseră locul de odihnă.

7 A ll finding them have devoured them, And their adversaries have said: We are not guilty, Because that they sinned against Jehovah, The habitation of righteousness, And the hope of their fathers -- Jehovah.

Toţi cei ce le găseau le mâncau. Duşmanii lor ziceau: «Noi nu suntem vinovaţi, căci ele au păcătuit împotriva Domnului, staulul dreptăţii, împotriva Domnului, nădejdea strămoşilor lor.»

8 M ove ye from the midst of Babylon, And from the land of the Chaldeans go out. And be as he-goats before a flock.

Fugiţi din Babilon, ieşiţi din ţara caldeenilor şi fiţi ca ţapii care conduc turma,

9 F or, lo, I am stirring up, And am causing to come up against Babylon, An assembly of great nations from a land of the north, And they have set in array against her, From thence she is captured, Its arrow -- as a skilful hero -- returneth not empty,

căci, iată, voi stârni şi voi aduce împotriva Babilonului o mulţime de neamuri mari din ţara de nord. Ele se vor înşira la luptă împotriva lui şi îl vor cuceri. Săgeţile lor sunt ca ale unui viteaz priceput care nu se întoarce cu mâna goală.

10 A nd Chaldea hath been for a spoil, All her spoilers are satisfied, An affirmation of Jehovah.

Astfel, Caldeea va fi prada lor şi toţi jefuitorii ei se vor sătura, zice Domnul.

11 B ecause thou rejoicest, because thou exultest, O spoilers of Mine inheritance, Because thou increasest as a heifer the tender grass, And dost cry aloud as bulls,

Pentru că v-aţi bucurat şi v-aţi veselit când aţi jefuit moştenirea Mea, pentru că aţi sărit ca o viţea pe păşune şi aţi nechezat ca armăsarii,

12 A shamed hath been your mother greatly, Confounded hath she been that bare you, Lo, the hindermost of nations a wilderness, A dry land, and a desert.

mama voastră va fi într-o mare ruşine; cea care v-a născut va fi făcută de ruşine. Iată, ea va fi cea mai de pe urmă dintre neamuri – un pustiu, un pământ uscat şi fără apă.

13 B ecause of the wrath of Jehovah it is not inhabited, And it hath been a desolation -- all of it. Every passer by at Babylon is astonished, And doth hiss because of all her plagues.

Din pricina mâniei Domnului, ea nu va mai fi locuită, ci va deveni un pustiu. Toţi cei ce vor trece prin Babilon se vor îngrozi şi vor fluiera din cauza tuturor rănilor lui.

14 S et yourselves in array against Babylon round about, All ye treading a bow, Shoot at her, have no pity on the arrow, For against Jehovah she hath sinned.

Aşezaţi-vă în linie de luptă împrejurul Babilonului, voi toţi cei ce întindeţi arcul! Trageţi împotriva lui, nu vă cruţaţi săgeţile, căci a păcătuit împotriva Domnului.

15 S hout against her round about, She hath given forth her hand, Fallen have her foundations, Thrown down have been her walls, For it the vengeance of Jehovah, Be avenged of her, as she did -- do ye to her.

Strigaţi împotriva lui din toate părţile! El se predă, întăriturile îi cad şi zidurile îi sunt dărâmate. De vreme ce este răzbunarea Domnului, răzbunaţi-vă pe el şi faceţi-i cum a făcut şi el!

16 C ut off the sower from Babylon, And him handling the sickle in the time of harvest, Because of the oppressing sword, Each unto his people -- they turn, And each to his land -- they flee.

Nimiciţi din Babilon pe semănător şi pe cel ce mânuieşte secera la vremea secerişului! Din cauza sabiei pustiitorului, fiecare să se întoarcă la poporul său, fiecare să fugă în ţara sa!“

17 A scattered sheep is Israel, lions have driven away, At first, devour him did the king of Asshur, And now, at last, broken his bone Hath Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon.

„Israel este o oaie rătăcită pe care au vânat-o leii. Primul care a mâncat-o a fost împăratul Asiriei, iar ultimul care i-a sfărâmat oasele a fost Nebucadneţar, împăratul Babilonului.“

18 T herefore thus said Jehovah of Hosts, God of Israel: Lo, I am seeing after the king of Babylon, And after his land, As I have seen after the king of Asshur;

„De aceea, aşa vorbeşte Domnul Oştirilor, Dumnezeul lui Israel: «Îl voi pedepsi pe împăratul Babilonului şi ţara lui, aşa cum l-am pedepsit şi pe împăratul Asiriei.

19 A nd I have brought back Israel unto his habitation, And he hath fed on Carmel, and on Bashan. And in mount Ephraim, and on Gilead is his soul satisfied.

Pe Israel însă îl voi aduce înapoi la păşunea lui; el va paşte pe Carmel şi pe Başan; îşi va potoli foamea pe dealurile Efraimului şi Ghiladului.

20 I n those days, and at that time, An affirmation of Jehovah, Sought is the iniquity of Israel, and it is not, And the sin of Judah, and it is not found, For I am propitious to those whom I leave!

În zilele acelea şi în vremea aceea, zice Domnul, se va căuta nelegiuirea lui Israel, dar aceasta nu va mai fi, se va căuta păcatul lui Iuda, dar el nu se va mai găsi, căci voi ierta rămăşiţa pe care am cruţat-o.

21 A gainst the land of Merathaim: Go up against it, and unto the inhabitants of Pekod, Waste and devote their posterity, An affirmation of Jehovah, And do according to all that I have commanded thee.

Înaintaţi împotriva ţării Meratayim şi împotriva celor ce locuiesc în Pekod. Urmăriţi-i, ucideţi-i şi distrugeţi-i cu desăvârşire, zice Domnul! Faceţi-le tot ceea ce v-am poruncit!

22 A noise of battle in the land, and of great destruction.

Zgomotul războiului răsună în ţară, zgomotul unui mare prăpăd.

23 H ow hath it been cut and broken, The hammer of the whole earth! How hath Babylon been for a desolation among nations!

Cum s-a rupt şi s-a sfărâmat ciocanul întregului pământ! Cum a ajuns Babilonul o pricină de groază printre neamuri!

24 I have laid a snare for thee, And also -- thou art captured, O Babylon, And thou -- thou hast known, Thou hast been found, and also art caught, For against Jehovah thou hast stirred thyself up.

Ţi-am întins o cursă, Babilonule, şi ai fost prins fără să te aştepţi! Ai fost găsit şi cucerit, căci te-ai împotrivit Domnului.

25 J ehovah hath opened His treasury, And He bringeth out the weapons of His indignation, For a work to the Lord Jehovah of Hosts, In the land of the Chaldeans.

Domnul Şi-a deschis odaia cu arme şi a scos armele mâniei Lui, căci Stăpânul, Domnul Oştirilor, are de lucru în ţara caldeenilor.

26 C ome ye in to her from the extremity, Open ye her storehouses, Raise her up as heaps, and devote her, Let her have no remnant.

Veniţi împotriva ei de departe, deschideţi-i grânarele, ridicaţi-o ca pe nişte snopi. Distrugeţi-o cu desăvârşire şi nu lăsaţi nici un supravieţuitor în ea.

27 S lay all her kine, they go down to slaughter, Wo on them, for come hath their day, The time of their inspection.

Ucideţi-i toţi tăuraşii! Să se ducă la înjunghiere! Vai de ei, căci le-a venit ziua! Le-a sosit vremea să fie pedepsiţi!

28 A voice of fugitives and escaped ones from the land of Babylon, To declare in Zion the vengeance of Jehovah our God, The vengeance of His temple.

‘Ascultaţi! Se aude glasul fugarilor şi al celor ce scapă din ţara Babilonului ca să proclame în Sion răzbunarea Domnului, Dumnezeul nostru, răzbunarea pentru Templul Său.’

29 S ummon unto Babylon archers, all treading the bow, Encamp against her round about, Let have no escape; Recompense to her according to her work, According to all that she did -- do to her, For unto Jehovah she hath been proud, Unto the Holy One of Israel.

Chemaţi arcaşii împotriva Babilonului, chemaţi-i pe toţi cei ce întind arcul. Ridicaţi-vă tabăra de jur împrejurul lui; nu lăsaţi pe nimeni să scape! Răsplătiţi-i după faptele lui; faceţi-i potrivit cu tot ce a făcut şi el, căci s-a îngâmfat faţă de Domnul, faţă de Sfântul lui Israel.

30 T herefore fall do her young men in her broad places, And all her men of war are cut off in that day, An affirmation of Jehovah.

De aceea, tinerii lor vor cădea în pieţe; toţi ostaşii lor vor fi reduşi la tăcere în ziua aceea, zice Domnul.

31 L o, I against thee, O pride, An affirmation of the Lord Jehovah of Hosts, For thy day hath come, the time of thy inspection.

Iată, Eu sunt împotriva ta, trufaşule, zice Stăpânul, Domnul Oştirilor, căci ţi-a sosit ziua, ţi-a venit vremea să fii pedepsit!

32 A nd stumbled hath pride, And he hath fallen, and hath no raiser up, And I have kindled a fire in his cities, And it hath devoured all round about him.

Trufaşul acela se va împiedica şi va cădea şi nimeni nu-l va ajuta să se ridice. Voi aprinde un foc în cetăţile lui, care îi va mistui toate împrejurimile.»“

33 T hus said Jehovah of Hosts: Oppressed are the sons of Israel, And the sons of Judah together, And all their captors have kept hold on them, They have refused to send them away.

„Aşa vorbeşte Domnul Oştirilor: «Israeliţii sunt asupriţi şi cei din Iuda la fel. Toţi cei care i-au luat captivi îi ţin strâns şi refuză să le dea drumul.

34 T heir Redeemer strong, Jehovah of Hosts His name, He doth thoroughly plead their cause, So as to cause the land to rest, And He hath given trouble to the inhabitants of Babylon.

Dar Răscumpărătorul lor este puternic, Domnul Oştirilor este Numele Lui. El le va apăra cauza ca să aducă odihnă ţării lor şi să facă pe locuitorii Babilonului să se agite.

35 A sword for the Chaldeans, An affirmation of Jehovah, And it on the inhabitants of Babylon, And on her heads, and on her wise men;

Sabie împotriva caldeenilor! zice Domnul – împotriva celor ce locuiesc în Babilon, împotriva conducătorilor şi înţelepţilor lor.

36 A sword on the princes, And they have become foolish; A sword on her mighty ones, And they have been broken down;

Sabie împotriva profeţilor mincinoşi! Ei vor deveni nebuni. Sabie împotriva vitejilor lor! Ei vor fi umpluţi de spaimă.

37 A sword on his horses and on his chariot, And on all the rabble who in her midst, And they have become women; A sword on her treasuries, And they have been spoiled;

Sabie împotriva cailor şi carelor lor şi împotriva tuturor străinilor care sunt în mijlocul lor! Ei se vor înfricoşa ca nişte femei. Sabie împotriva comorilor lor! Ele vor fi prădate.

38 A sword on her waters, and they have been dried up, For it a land of graven images, And in idols they do boast themselves.

Uscăciune peste apele lor! Ele vor seca. Căci este o ţară de idoli, au înnebunit cu idolii lor de care se tem.

39 T herefore dwell do Ziim with Iim, Yea, dwelt in her have daughters of the ostrich, And it is not inhabited any more for ever, Nor dwelt in unto all generations.

De aceea, doar fiarele pustiei şi hienele vor locui acolo, precum şi bufniţa de noapte. Nu va mai fi locuit vreodată, ci va rămâne nelocuit din generaţie în generaţie.

40 A s overthrown by God with Sodom, And with Gomorrah, and with its neighbours, An affirmation of Jehovah, none doth dwell there, Nor sojourn in her doth a son of man.

Aşa cum a distrus Dumnezeu Sodoma şi Gomora şi cetăţile vecine, zice Domnul, tot astfel nici un om nu va mai locui acolo şi nici un muritor nu se va mai stabili în el.

41 L o, a people hath come from the north, Even a great nation, And many kings are stirred up from the sides of the earth.

Iată, un popor vine din nord! Un mare neam şi regi mulţi au fost stârniţi de la marginile pământului.

42 B ow and halbert they seize, Cruel they, and they have no mercy, Their voice as a sea soundeth, and on horses they ride, Set in array as a man for battle, Against thee, O daughter of Babylon.

Ei sunt înarmaţi cu arcuri şi cu lănci; sunt cruzi şi fără milă. Vuietul lor este ca marea învolburată când vin călare pe cai; sunt pregătiţi de luptă împotriva ta, fiică a Babilonului!

43 H eard hath the king of Babylon their report, And feeble have been his hands, Distress hath seized him; pain as a travailing woman.

Împăratul Babilonului a auzit vestea şi mâinile i-au slăbit. L-a cuprins neputinţa, durerea ca pe o femeie care naşte.

44 L o, as a lion he cometh up, Because of the rising of the Jordan, Unto the enduring habitation, But I cause to rest, I cause them to run from off her. And who is chosen? on her I lay a charge, For who like Me? And who doth convene Me? And who this shepherd who standeth before Me?

Iată, ca un leu care vine din desişul Iordanului împotriva unui staul trainic, aşa Mă voi repezi şi-l voi pune pe fugă din locul unde este. Cine este cel ales de Mine ca să facă aceasta? Cine este ca Mine şi cine Mă va înfrunta? Ce păstor Îmi poate sta împotrivă?

45 T herefore, hear ye the counsel of Jehovah, That He counselled concerning Babylon, And His devices that He hath devised Concerning the land of the Chaldeans; Drag them out do not little ones of the flock, Doth He not make desolate over them the habitation?

De aceea, ascultaţi hotărârea pe care a luat-o Domnul împotriva Babilonului şi planurile pe care le-a făcut împotriva Caldeii: Cu siguranţă vor fi târâţi ca nişte oi plăpânde; cu siguranţă El le va distruge staulul.

46 F rom the voice: Captured was Babylon, Hath the earth been shaken, And a cry among nations hath been heard!

La sunetul cuceririi Babilonului pământul se cutremură şi un strigăt se aude printre neamuri.»“
