1 K eep silent towards Me, O isles, And the peoples pass on power, They come nigh, then they speak, `Together -- to judgment we draw near.'

«Ascultaţi-Mă în tăcere, ţinuturi de lângă mare, iar popoarele să-şi înnoiască puterea! Să se apropie şi să vorbească! Să ne înfăţişăm împreună la judecată!

2 W ho stirred up from the east a righteous one? He calleth him to His foot, He giveth before him nations, And kings He causeth him to rule, He giveth as dust his sword, As driven stubble his bow.

Cine l-a stârnit pe acela de la răsărit, chemându-l cu dreptate la picioarele Sale? El îi dă în stăpânire neamurile şi îi supune regi; cu sabia îi preface în praf, iar cu arcul îi face ca pleava luată de vânt.

3 H e pursueth them, he passeth over in safety A path with his feet he entereth not.

Îi urmăreşte, mergând în siguranţă pe un drum pe unde picioarele lui n-au mai călcat.

4 W ho hath wrought and done, Calling the generations from the first? I, Jehovah, the first, and with the last I He.

Cine a făcut şi a împlinit aceasta, chemând, de la început, generaţie după generaţie? Eu, Domnul, am fost cu cei dintâi şi tot Eu voi fi şi cu cei de pe urmă.»

5 S een have isles and fear, ends of the earth tremble, They have drawn near, yea, they come.

Ţinuturile de lângă mare văd aceasta şi se înfioară; marginile pământului tremură; ei se apropie şi sosesc.

6 E ach his neighbour they help, And to his brother he saith, `Be strong.'

Oamenii se încurajează între ei, spunându-şi: «Fii tare!»

7 A nd strengthen doth an artizan the refiner, A smoother a hammer, Him who is beating an anvil, Saying, `For joining it good,' And he strengtheneth it with nails, it is not moved!

Artizanul îl încurajează pe bijutier, iar cel ce netezeşte cu ciocanul, pe cel ce loveşte nicovala. El zice despre îmbinare: «Este bună!», după care fixează idolul în cuie ca să nu se clatine.

8 - - And thou, O Israel, My servant, Jacob, whom I have chosen, Seed of Abraham, My lover,

«Dar tu, Israele, robul Meu, tu, Iacove, pe care te-am ales, tu, sămânţă a lui Avraam, prietenul Meu,

9 W hom I have taken hold of, from the ends of the earth, And from its near places I have called thee, And I say to thee, My servant Thou, I have chosen thee, and not rejected thee.

tu, pe care te-am adus de la marginile pământului şi te-am chemat din colţurile sale cele mai îndepărtate, zicându-ţi: ‘Tu eşti robul Meu!’, pe tine te-am ales şi nu te-am lepădat!

10 B e not afraid, for with thee I, Look not around, for I thy God, I have strengthened thee, Yea, I have helped thee, yea, I upheld thee, With the right hand of My righteousness.

Deci nu te teme, căci Eu sunt cu tine! Nu te înspăimânta, căci Eu sunt Dumnezeul tău! Eu te voi întări, te voi ajuta şi te voi sprijini cu dreapta Mea izbăvitoare!

11 L o, all those displeased with thee, They are ashamed and blush, They are as nothing, yea, perish Do the men who strive with thee.

Da, umiliţi şi făcuţi de ruşine vor fi toţi cei furioşi pe tine; ca un nimic vor ajunge şi vor pieri toţi cei ce ţi se opun.

12 T hou seekest them, and findest them not, The men who debate with thee, They are as nothing, yea, as nothing, The men who war with thee.

Te vei uita după ei, după duşmanii tăi, dar nu-i vei mai găsi, fiindcă nimiciţi de tot vor ajunge cei ce se luptă cu tine.

13 F or I, Jehovah thy God, Am strengthening thy right hand, He who is saying to thee, `Fear not, I have helped thee.'

Căci Eu sunt Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, Care te apuc de mâna dreaptă şi-ţi zic: ‘Nu te teme, Eu te voi ajuta!

14 F ear not, O worm Jacob, ye men of Israel, I helped thee, an affirmation of Jehovah, Even thy redeemer, the Holy One of Israel.

Nu te teme, vierme al lui Iacov, rămăşiţă firavă a lui Israel! Eu Însumi te voi ajuta!’», zice Domnul, Răscumpărătorul tău, Sfântul lui Israel.

15 L o, I have set thee for a new sharp threshing instrument, Possessing teeth, thou threshest mountains, And beatest small, and hills as chaff thou makest.

«Iată, te voi face o sanie ascuţită de treierat, nouă şi cu două rânduri de dinţi! Vei treiera munţii şi-i vei zdrobi, iar dealurile le vei face ca pleava.

16 T hou winnowest them, and a wind lifteth them up, And a whirlwind scattereth them, And thou -- thou rejoicest in Jehovah, In the Holy One of Israel dost boast thyself.

Le vei vântura şi le va lua vântul, iar vijelia le va împrăştia. Dar tu te vei bucura în Domnul şi cu Sfântul lui Israel te vei preamări.

17 T he poor and the needy are seeking water, And there is none, Their tongue with thirst hath failed, I, Jehovah do answer them, The God of Israel -- I forsake them not.

Săracii şi nevoiaşii caută apă dar nu găsesc, iar limba li se usucă de sete. Însă Eu, Domnul, le voi răspunde! Eu, Dumnezeul lui Israel, nu-i voi părăsi!

18 I open on high places rivers, And in midst of valleys fountains, I make a wilderness become a pond of water, And a dry land become springs of water.

Pe dealurile pleşuve voi face să curgă râuri, iar în mijlocul văilor – izvoare; voi preface pustia într-un iaz, şi pământul uscat – în izvoare de apă.

19 I give in a wilderness the cedar, Shittah, and myrtle, and oil-tree, I set in a desert the fir-pine and box-wood together.

În pustie voi planta cedri, salcâmi, mirt şi măslini; în deşert voi planta laolaltă chiparoşi, ulmi şi pini,

20 S o that they see, and know, And regard, and act wisely together, For the hand of Jehovah hath done this, And the Holy One of Israel hath prepared it.

pentru ca toţi să vadă şi să cunoască, să chibzuiască şi să înţeleagă că mâna Domnului a făcut acestea, Sfântul lui Israel le-a creat!»

21 B ring near your cause, saith Jehovah, Bring nigh your mighty ones, saith the king of Jacob.

«Apăraţi-vă cauza!», zice Domnul. «Aduceţi dovezi!», zice Împăratul lui Iacov.

22 T hey bring nigh, and declare to us that which doth happen, The first things -- what they declare ye, And we set our heart, and know their latter end, Or the coming things cause us to hear.

«Aduceţi-vă idolii să ne spună ce se va întâmpla! Spuneţi-ne despre profeţiile voastre din trecut, pentru a le putea judeca şi pentru a le afla împlinirea! Sau spuneţi-ne lucrurile care se vor întâmpla!

23 D eclare the things that are coming hereafter, And we know that ye gods, Yea, ye may do good or do evil, And we look around and see together.

Faceţi-ne cunoscut viitorul, şi vom şti că sunteţi dumnezei! Faceţi ceva – bine sau rău – ceva care să ne uimească sau să ne îngrozească!

24 L o, ye of nothing, and your work of nought, An abomination -- it fixeth on you.

Dar iată că voi sunteţi mai puţin decât nimic, iar lucrarea voastră este fără nici o valoare; o urâciune este cel ce vă alege.»

25 I have stirred up from the north, And he cometh, From the rising of the sun he calleth in My name, And he cometh in prefects as clay, And as a potter treadeth down mire.

«Am stârnit pe cineva din nord şi a venit – pe cineva de la răsărit care cheamă Numele Meu. El îi va călca pe domnitori cum calci tu noroiul şi cum calcă olarul lutul în picioare.

26 W ho hath declared from the first, and we know? And beforetime, and we say, `Righteous?' yea, there is none declaring, Yea, there is none proclaiming, Yea, there is none hearing your sayings.

Cine a vestit aceasta de la început, ca s-o putem cunoaşte sau mai dinainte, ca să putem spune: ‘A avut dreptate!’? Nimeni n-a vestit-o, nimeni n-a proclamat-o, nimeni n-a auzit vreun cuvânt de la voi.

27 F irst to Zion, Behold, behold them, And to Jerusalem one proclaiming tidings I give,

Eu am vestit-o mai întâi Sionului: ‘Iată-i, iată-i!’ şi am trimis un aducător de veşti bune Ierusalimului.

28 A nd I see that there is no man, Yea, of these that there is no counsellor, And I ask them, and they return word:

Mă uit şi nu este nimeni – nu este printre ei nici unul care să sfătuiască, nici unul care să răspundă atunci când îl întreb.

29 ` Lo, all of them vanity, Nought their works, Wind and emptiness their molten images!'

Iată că toţi sunt falşi, lucrările lor sunt un nimic, iar chipurile lor sunt vânt şi deşertăciune.
