1 A nd Joshua gathereth all the tribes of Israel to Shechem, and calleth for the elders of Israel, and for its heads, and for its judges, and for its authorities, and they station themselves before God.

Iosua a adunat toate seminţiile lui Israel la Şehem şi a convocat sfatul bătrânilor lui Israel, conducătorii, judecătorii şi căpeteniile, iar aceştia s-au înfăţişat înaintea Domnului.

2 A nd Joshua saith unto all the people, `Thus said Jehovah, God of Israel, Beyond the River have your fathers dwelt of old -- Terah father of Abraham and father of Nachor -- and they serve other gods;

Atunci Iosua a zis întregului popor: – Aşa vorbeşte Domnul, Dumnezeul lui Israel: „În vechime, strămoşii voştri, adică Terah, tatăl lui Avraam şi al lui Nahor, locuiau de cealaltă parte a râului şi se închinau altor dumnezei.

3 a nd I take your father Abraham from beyond the River, and cause him to go through all the land of Canaan, and multiply his seed, and give to him Isaac.

Eu l-am luat pe strămoşul vostru Avraam de dincolo de râu, l-am dus prin toată ţara Canaanului şi i-am dat foarte mulţi urmaşi: i-am dat pe Isaac,

4 A nd I give to Isaac, Jacob and Esau; and I give to Esau mount Seir, to possess it; and Jacob and his sons have gone down to Egypt.

iar lui Isaac i-am dat pe Iacov şi pe Esau. Lui Esau i-am dat în stăpânire regiunea muntoasă a Seirului, iar Iacov împreună cu fiii lui s-au dus în Egipt.

5 A nd I send Moses and Aaron, and plague Egypt, as I have done in its midst, and afterwards I have brought you out.

Apoi i-am trimis pe Moise şi pe Aaron şi am lovit Egiptul prin ceea ce am făcut în mijlocul lui, după care v-am scos afară.

6 A nd I bring out your fathers from Egypt, and ye go into the sea, and the Egyptians pursue after your fathers, with chariot and with horsemen, to the Red Sea;

După ce i-am scos pe părinţii voştri din Egipt, aţi pornit către mare, iar egiptenii i-au urmărit pe părinţii voştri cu care de luptă şi călăreţi, până la Marea Roşie.

7 a nd they cry unto Jehovah, and He setteth thick darkness between you and the Egyptians, and bringeth on them the sea, and covereth them, and your eyes see that which I have done in Egypt; and ye dwell in a wilderness many days.

Atunci ei au strigat către Domnul, iar El a aşezat întuneric între ei şi egipteni, după care a adus apele mării peste ei şi i-a acoperit. Aţi văzut cu ochii voştri ce le-am făcut egiptenilor. Apoi aţi locuit în pustie o lungă perioadă de timp.

8 ` And I bring you in unto the land of the Amorite who is dwelling beyond the Jordan, and they fight with you, and I give them into your hand, and ye possess their land, and I destroy them out of your presence.

V-am dus prin regiunea amoriţilor care locuiau la răsărit de Iordan. Aceştia au luptat împotriva voastră, însă Eu i-am dat în mâinile voastre şi i-am nimicit dinaintea voastră, iar voi le-aţi ocupat ţara.

9 ` And Balak son of Zippor, king of Moab, riseth and fighteth against Israel, and sendeth and calleth for Balaam son of Beor, to revile you,

Balak, fiul lui Ţipor, regele Moabului, s-a pregătit să lupte împotriva lui Israel şi l-a chemat pe Balaam, fiul lui Beor, ca să vă blesteme,

10 a nd I have not been willing to hearken to Balaam, and he doth greatly bless you, and I deliver you out of his hand.

dar Eu nu am vrut să-l ascult pe Balaam şi, prin urmare, el v-a binecuvântat. Şi astfel v-am scăpat din mâinile lui.

11 ` And ye pass over the Jordan, and come in unto Jericho, and fight against you do the possessors of Jericho -- the Amorite, and the Perizzite, and the Canaanite, and the Hittite, and the Girgashite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite -- and I give them into your hand.

Apoi aţi traversat Iordanul şi aţi pornit către Ierihon. Au luptat împotriva voastră atât locuitorii Ierihonului, cât şi amoriţii, periziţii, canaaniţii, hitiţii, ghirgasiţii, hiviţii şi iebusiţii, însă Eu i-am dat în mâinile voastre.

12 A nd I send before you the hornet, and it casteth them out from your presence -- two kings of the Amorite -- not by thy sword, nor by thy bow.

Am trimis înaintea voastră viespi care i-au izgonit pe aceştia dinaintea voastră ca şi pe cei doi regi amoriţi; ei nu au fost izgoniţi prin sabia sau prin arcul vostru.

13 ` And I give to you a land for which thou hast not laboured, and cities which ye have not built, and ye dwell in them; of vineyards and olive-yards which ye have not planted ye are eating.

V-am dat astfel o ţară pe care nu voi aţi lucrat-o, cetăţi pe care nu voi le-aţi zidit, dar în care locuiţi şi vii şi măslini pe care nu voi i-aţi plantat, dar din care mâncaţi!“

14 ` And now, fear ye Jehovah, and serve Him, in perfection and in truth, and turn aside the gods which your fathers served beyond the River, and in Egypt, and serve ye Jehovah;

Şi acum, temeţi-vă de Domnul şi slujiţi-I cu integritate şi cu credincioşie! Îndepărtaţi zeii cărora le-au slujit strămoşii voştri dincolo de râu şi în Egipt şi slujiţi Domnului!

15 a nd if wrong in your eyes to serve Jehovah -- choose for you to-day whom ye do serve; -- whether the gods whom your fathers served, which beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorite in whose land ye are dwelling; and I and my house -- we serve Jehovah.'

Iar dacă nu doriţi să slujiţi Domnului, atunci alegeţi astăzi cui vreţi să slujiţi: fie zeilor cărora le slujeau strămoşii voştri dincolo de râu, fie zeilor amoriţilor în a căror ţară locuiţi! Cât despre mine, eu şi familia mea Îi vom sluji Domnului!

16 A nd the people answer and say, `Far be it from us to forsake Jehovah, to serve other gods;

– Departe de noi gândul să-L părăsim pe Domnul şi să slujim altor dumnezei! a răspuns poporul.

17 f or Jehovah our God He who is bringing us and our fathers up out of the land of Egypt, out of a house of servants, and who hath done before our eyes these great signs, and doth keep us in all the way in which we have gone, and among all the peoples through whose midst we passed;

Domnul, Dumnezeul nostru, este Cel Care ne-a scos pe noi şi pe părinţii noştri din ţara Egiptului, din casa robiei şi a înfăptuit înaintea noastră aceste minuni mari. El ne-a păzit de-a lungul întregului drum pe care l-am străbătut şi printre toate neamurile pe unde am călătorit.

18 a nd Jehovah casteth out the whole of the peoples, even the Amorite inhabiting the land, from our presence; we also do serve Jehovah, for He our God.'

Domnul a izgonit dinaintea noastră toate neamurile, precum şi pe amoriţii care locuiau în ţară. Noi vom sluji în continuare Domnului, căci El este Dumnezeul nostru!

19 A nd Joshua saith unto the people, `Ye are not able to serve Jehovah, for a God most holy He; a zealous God He; He doth not bear with your transgression and with your sins.

Iosua i-a zis poporului: – Voi nu veţi fi în stare să-I slujiţi Domnului, fiindcă El este un Dumnezeu sfânt, un Dumnezeu gelos! El nu vă va ierta răzvrătirile şi păcatele.

20 W hen ye forsake Jehovah, and have served gods of a stranger, then He hath turned back and done evil to you, and consumed you, after that He hath done good to you.'

Căci dacă Îl veţi părăsi pe Domnul şi veţi sluji dumnezeilor străini, El se va întoarce şi vă va face rău nimicindu-vă, după ce v-a făcut bine!

21 A nd the people saith unto Joshua, `No, but Jehovah we do serve.'

Poporul i-a răspuns lui Iosua: – Nu, ci noi vom sluji Domnului!

22 A nd Joshua saith unto the people, `Witnesses ye are against yourselves, that ye have chosen for you Jehovah to serve Him (and they say, `Witnesses!')

Iosua le-a spus: – Voi sunteţi martori împotriva voastră înşivă că aţi ales să slujiţi Domnului! – Suntem martori! i-au răspuns ei.

23 a nd, now, turn aside the gods of the stranger which in your midst, and incline your heart unto Jehovah, God of Israel.'

– Atunci îndepărtaţi zeii care încă se mai găsesc în mijlocul vostru şi întoarceţi-vă inima spre Domnul, Dumnezeul lui Israel.

24 A nd the people say unto Joshua, `Jehovah our God we serve, and to His voice we hearken.'

Şi poporul i-a zis lui Iosua: – Vom sluji Domnului, Dumnezeul nostru, şi vom asculta de glasul Lui!

25 A nd Joshua maketh a covenant with the people on that day, and layeth on it a statute and an ordinance, in Shechem.

În acea zi, Iosua a încheiat un legământ cu poporul la Şehem şi i-a dat porunci şi legi.

26 A nd Joshua writeth these words in the Book of the Law of God, and taketh a great stone, and raiseth it up there under the oak which in the sanctuary of Jehovah.

Iosua a scris cuvintele acestea în Cartea Legii lui Dumnezeu. Apoi a luat o piatră mare şi a aşezat-o acolo, sub terebintul aflat pe locul sfânt al Domnului.

27 A nd Joshua saith unto all the people, `Lo, this stone is against us for a witness, for it hath heard all the sayings of Jehovah which He hath spoken with us, and it hath been against you for a witness, lest ye lie against your God.'

Şi Iosua a zis întregului popor: – Piatra aceasta va fi un martor împotriva noastră, căci ea a auzit toate cuvintele pe care ni le-a spus Domnul. Ea va fi un martor împotriva voastră în cazul în care Îl veţi înşela pe Dumnezeul vostru.

28 A nd Joshua sendeth the people away, each to his inheritance.

Apoi Iosua a trimis poporul înapoi, pe fiecare la moştenirea lui. Funeraliile lui Iosua şi ale lui Elazar

29 A nd it cometh to pass, after these things, that Joshua son of Nun, servant of Jehovah, dieth, a son of a hundred and ten years,

După toate acestea, Iosua, fiul lui Nun, robul Domnului, a murit fiind în vârstă de o sută zece ani.

30 a nd they bury him in the border of his inheritance, in Timnath-Serah, which in the hill-country of Ephraim, on the north of the hill of Gaash.

L-au înmormântat pe teritoriul moştenirii lui, la Timnat-Serah, care era în regiunea muntoasă a lui Efraim, în partea de nord a muntelui Gaaş.

31 A nd Israel serveth Jehovah all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders who prolonged days after Joshua, and who knew all the work of Jehovah which He did to Israel.

Israel a slujit Domnului cât timp a trăit Iosua şi bătrânii de după Iosua, care cunoscuseră toate lucrările pe care le făcuse Domnul pentru Israel.

32 A nd the bones of Joseph, which the sons of Israel brought up out of Egypt, they buried in Shechem, in the portion of the field which Jacob bought from the sons of Hamor father of Shechem, with a hundred kesitah; and they are to the sons of Joseph for an inheritance.

Oasele lui Iosif, pe care israeliţii le aduseseră din Egipt, au fost îngropate la Şehem, pe terenul cumpărat de Iacov de la hamoriţi – Hamor era tatăl lui Şehem – pentru o sută de chesita şi care era moştenirea urmaşilor lui Iosif.

33 A nd Eleazar son of Aaron died, and they bury him in the hill of Phinehas his son, which was given to him in the hill-country of Ephraim.

Elazar, fiul lui Aaron, a murit şi el şi a fost înmormântat la Ghiva, care fusese dată fiului său, Fineas, în regiunea muntoasă a lui Efraim.
