1 I n the second year of Joash son of Jehoahaz king of Israel reigned hath Amaziah son of Joash king of Judah;

În al doilea an al domniei lui Iehoaş, fiul lui Iehoahaz, regele lui Israel, a început să domnească Amaţia, fiul lui Ioaş, regele lui Iuda.

2 a son of twenty and five years was he in his reigning, and twenty and nine years he hath reigned in Jerusalem, and the name of his mother Jehoaddan of Jerusalem,

El era în vârstă de douăzeci şi cinci de ani când a devenit rege şi a domnit la Ierusalim timp de douăzeci şi nouă de ani. Mama lui se numea Iehoadin şi era din Ierusalim.

3 a nd he doth that which right in the eyes of Jehovah, only not like David his father, according to all that Joash his father did he hath done,

El a făcut ce este bine înaintea Domnului, dar totuşi nu cum făcuse strămoşul său David, ci, în toate lucrurile, a făcut la fel cum făcuse tatăl său, Ioaş.

4 o nly, the high places have not turned aside -- yet are the people sacrificing and making perfume in high places.

El nu a îndepărtat înălţimile, astfel încât poporul încă mai aducea jertfe şi tămâie pe înălţimi.

5 A nd it cometh to pass, when the kingdom hath been strong in his hand, that he smiteth his servants, those smiting the king his father,

După ce şi-a întărit domnia, el i-a omorât pe slujitorii care-l uciseseră pe tatăl său, regele.

6 a nd the sons of those smiting he hath not put to death, as it is written in the book of the law of Moses that Jehovah commanded, saying, `Fathers are not put to death for sons, and sons are not put to death for fathers, but each for his own sin is put to death.'

Totuşi pe fiii ucigaşilor el nu i-a omorât din pricina a ceea ce este scris în Cartea Legii lui Moise, unde Domnul porunceşte: „Să nu-i omori pe părinţi pentru copii şi nici pe copii pentru părinţi, ci fiecare om să fie omorât pentru păcatul lui.“

7 H e hath smitten Edom, in the valley of salt -- ten thousand, and seized Selah in war, and calleth its name Joktheel unto this day,

El a omorât zece mii de edomiţi în Valea Sării şi a cucerit Sela prin luptă, numind-o apoi Iokteel, nume pe care şi l-a păstrat până în ziua aceasta.

8 t hen hath Amaziah sent messengers unto Jehoash son of Jehoahaz, son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying, `Come, we look one another in the face.'

După aceea, Amaţia a trimis nişte soli la Iehoaş, fiul lui Iehoahaz, fiul lui Iehu, regele lui Israel, zicându-i: – Vino să ne confruntăm!

9 A nd Jehoash king of Israel sendeth unto Amaziah king of Judah, saying, `The thorn that in Lebanon hath sent unto the cedar that in Lebanon, saying, Give thy daughter to my son for a wife; and pass by doth a beast of the field that in Lebanon, and treadeth down the thorn.

Dar Iehoaş, regele lui Israel, i-a răspuns lui Amaţia, regele lui Iuda, astfel: – Spinul din Liban a trimis un sol să-i spună cedrului din Liban: „Dă-o pe fiica ta de soţie fiului meu!“ Imediat însă animalele sălbatice au trecut pe acolo şi au călcat spinul în picioare.

10 T hou hast certainly smitten Edom, and thy heart hath lifted thee up; be honoured, and abide in thy house; and why dost thou stir thyself up in evil, that thou hast fallen, thou, and Judah with thee?'

Tu ai învins într-adevăr Edomul şi de aceea ţi s-a înălţat inima! Bucură-te de slava ta şi rămâi acasă. De ce să stârneşti o nenorocire care ar putea duce la căderea ta şi a lui Iuda?

11 A nd Amaziah hath not hearkened, and go up doth Jehoash king of Israel, and they look one another in the face, he and Amaziah king of Judah, in Beth-Shemesh, that Judah's,

Amaţia însă nu a ascultat. Prin urmare, Iehoaş, regele lui Israel, a pornit la atac. El şi Amaţia, regele lui Iuda, s-au confruntat la Bet-Şemeş, în Iuda.

12 a nd Judah is smitten before Israel, and they flee each to his tent.

Iuda a fost învins de Israel şi fiecare om a fugit acasă.

13 A nd Amaziah king of Judah, son of Jehoash son of Ahaziah, caught hath Jehoash king of Israel in Beth-Shemesh, and they come in to Jerusalem, and he bursteth through the wall of Jerusalem, at the gate of Ephraim unto the gate of the corner, four hundred cubits,

Iehoaş, regele lui Israel, l-a prins pe Amaţia, regele lui Iuda, fiul lui Ioaş, fiul lui Ahazia, la Bet-Şemeş. Apoi a venit la Ierusalim şi a spart zidul Ierusalimului de la Poarta Efraim până la Poarta Colţului, pe o lungime de patru sute de coţi.

14 a nd hath taken all the gold and the silver, and all the vessels that are found in the house of Jehovah, and in the treasures of the house of the king, and the sons of the pledges, and turneth back to Samaria.

A luat tot aurul şi argintul împreună cu toate obiectele pe care le-a găsit în Casa Domnului şi în vistieriile palatului regelui. A luat şi prizonieri, după care s-a întors în Samaria.

15 A nd the rest of the matters of Jehoash that he did, and his might, and how he fought with Amaziah king of Judah, are they not written on the book of the Chronicles of the kings of Israel?

Celelalte fapte ale lui Iehoaş, ce a făcut el şi isprăvile lui din războiul împotriva lui Amaţia, regele lui Iuda, nu sunt scrise oare în „Cartea cronicilor regilor lui Israel“?

16 A nd Jehoash lieth with his fathers, and is buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel, and reign doth Jeroboam his son in his stead.

Iehoaş s-a culcat alături de părinţii săi şi a fost înmormântat în Samaria, alături de regii lui Israel. Şi în locul lui a domnit fiul său Ieroboam.

17 A nd Amaziah son of Joash king of Judah liveth after the death of Jehoash son of Jehoahaz king of Israel fifteen years,

Amaţia, fiul lui Ioaş, regele lui Iuda, a mai trăit încă cincisprezece ani după moartea lui Iehoaş, fiul lui Iehoahaz, regele lui Israel.

18 a nd the rest of the matters of Amaziah are they not written on the book of the Chronicles of the kings of Judah?

Celelalte fapte ale lui Amaţia, nu sunt scrise oare în „Cartea cronicilor regilor lui Iuda“?

19 A nd they make a conspiracy against him in Jerusalem, and he fleeth to Lachish, and they send after him to Lachish, and put him to death there,

Slujitorii lui Amaţia au pus la cale un complot împotriva lui la Ierusalim. El a fugit la Lachiş, dar ei au trimis după el oameni care l-au omorât acolo.

20 a nd lift him up on the horses, and he is buried in Jerusalem, with his fathers, in the city of David.

L-au adus pe cai şi a fost înmormântat la Ierusalim, alături de părinţii săi, în Cetatea lui David.

21 A nd all the people of Judah take Azariah, and he a son of sixteen years, and cause him to reign instead of his father Amaziah;

Şi tot poporul lui Iuda l-a luat pe Azaria, care era în vârstă de şaisprezece ani şi l-a numit rege în locul tatălui său, Amaţia.

22 h e hath built Elath, and bringeth it back to Judah, after the lying of the king with his fathers.

După ce regele Amaţia a murit, Azaria a rezidit Elatul şi l-a adus din nou sub stăpânirea lui Iuda. Domnia lui Ieroboam II peste Israel

23 I n the fifteenth year of Amaziah son of Joash king of Judah, reigned hath Jeroboam son of Joash king of Israel in Samaria -- forty and one years,

Ieroboam, fiul lui Iehoaş, regele lui Israel, a început să domnească la Samaria în al cincisprezecelea an al domniei lui Amaţia, fiul lui Ioaş, regele lui Iuda. El a domnit timp de patruzeci şi unu de ani.

24 a nd he doth the evil thing in the eyes of Jehovah, he hath not turned aside from all the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat that he caused Israel to sin.

El a făcut ce este rău înaintea Domnului şi nu s-a depărtat de nici unul din păcatele lui Ieroboam, fiul lui Nebat, cel care l-a făcut pe Israel să păcătuiască.

25 H e hath brought back the border of Israel, from the entering in of Hamath unto the sea of the desert, according to the word of Jehovah, God of Israel, that He spake by the hand of His servant Jonah son of Amittai the prophet, who of Gath-Hepher,

El a luat înapoi hotarele lui Israel, de la Lebo-Hamat până la Marea Arabei, după Cuvântul Domnului, Dumnezeul lui Israel, rostit prin robul Său Iona, fiul lui Amitai, profetul din Gat-Hefer –

26 f or Jehovah hath seen the affliction of Israel -- very bitter, and there is none restrained, and there is none left, and there is no helper to Israel;

căci Domnul văzuse că necazul fiecărui israelit, sclav sau liber, era nespus de mare şi nu era nici un ajutor pentru Israel.

27 a nd Jehovah hath not spoken to blot out the name of Israel from under the heavens, and saveth them by the hand of Jeroboam son of Joash.

Domnul nu hotărâse că va şterge numele lui Israel de sub ceruri, astfel că El i-a izbăvit prin Ieroboam, fiul lui Iehoaş.

28 A nd the rest of the matters of Jeroboam, and all that he did, and his might with which he fought, and with which he brought back Damascus, and Hamath of Judah, into Israel, are they not written on the book of the Chronicles of the kings of Israel?

Celelalte fapte ale lui Ieroboam, tot ce a făcut el şi isprăvile lui din războiul în urma căruia a luat înapoi, pentru Israel, Damascul şi Hamatul, care aparţinuseră lui Iuda, nu sunt scrise oare în „Cartea cronicilor regilor lui Israel“?

29 A nd Jeroboam lieth with his fathers, with the kings of Israel, and reign doth Zechariah his son in his stead.

Ieroboam s-a culcat alături de părinţii săi, regii lui Israel. Şi în locul lui a domnit fiul său Zaharia.
