1 A nd Solomon joineth in marriage with Pharaoh king of Egypt, and taketh the daughter of Pharaoh, and bringeth her in unto the city of David, till he completeth to build his own house, and the house of Jehovah, and the wall of Jerusalem round about.

Solomon s-a înrudit cu Faraon, monarhul Egiptului. El a luat-o de soţie pe fiica acestuia şi a adus-o în Cetatea lui David până când a terminat de zidit palatul, Casa Domnului şi zidul din jurul Ierusalimului. Vedenia de la Ghivon: Solomon primeşte înţelepciune

2 O nly, the people are sacrificing in high places, for there hath not been built a house for the name of Jehovah till those days.

Poporul încă mai aducea jertfe pe înălţimi, căci încă nu fusese zidită o Casă pentru Numele Domnului.

3 A nd Solomon loveth Jehovah, to walk in the statutes of David his father -- only, in high places he is sacrificing and making perfume --

Solomon Îl iubea pe Domnul, împlinind hotărârile tatălui său, David, însă aducea jertfe şi ardea tămâie pe înălţimi.

4 a nd the king goeth to Gibeon, to sacrifice there, for it the great high place; a thousand burnt-offerings cause to ascend doth Solomon on that altar.

Regele s-a dus la Ghivon ca să aducă jertfe, pentru că acolo se afla cea mai însemnată înălţime. El a adus pe altarul de acolo o mie de arderi de tot.

5 I n Gibeon hath Jehovah appeared unto Solomon, in a dream of the night, and God saith, `Ask -- what do I give to thee?'

La Ghivon, Domnul i S-a arătat lui Solomon noaptea într-un vis şi Dumnezeu i-a zis: – Cere-Mi orice vrei să-ţi dau!

6 A nd Solomon saith, `Thou hast done with Thy servant David my father great kindness, as he walked before Thee in truth and in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with Thee, and Thou dost keep for him this great kindness, and dost give to him a son sitting on his throne, as this day.

– Tu ai arătat o mare îndurare faţă de robul Tău David, tatăl meu, a răspuns Solomon, căci a umblat înaintea Ta în credincioşie, în dreptate şi în curăţie de inimă. Tu ai arătat această mare îndurare faţă de el şi i-ai dat un fiu care stă astăzi pe tronul său.

7 A nd now, O Jehovah my God, Thou hast caused thy servant to reign instead of David my father; and I a little child, I do not know to go out and to come in;

Doamne, Dumnezeul meu, Tu l-ai numit rege pe slujitorul Tău în locul tatălui meu, David. Însă eu sunt tânăr şi nu ştiu să-mi îndeplinesc bine îndatoririle.

8 a nd Thy servant in the midst of thy people, whom Thou hast chosen, a people numerous, that is not numbered nor counted for multitude,

Slujitorul Tău se află în mijlocul poporului pe care l-ai ales, un popor atât de numeros, încât nu poate fi socotit sau numărat.

9 a nd Thou hast given to Thy servant an understanding heart, to judge Thy people, to discern between good and evil; for who is able to judge this Thy great people?'

Dă-i slujitorului Tău o minte cu discernământ ca să pot judeca poporul Tău şi să pot deosebi între bine şi rău, căci cine este în stare să judece acest popor numeros al Tău?

10 A nd the thing is good in the eyes of the Lord, that Solomon hath asked this thing,

Domnului I-a plăcut cererea lui Solomon.

11 a nd God saith unto him, `Because that thou hast asked this thing, and hast not asked for thee many days, nor asked for thee riches, nor asked the life of thine enemies, and hast asked for thee discernment to understand judgment,

Şi Dumnezeu i-a zis: – Pentru că ai cerut acest lucru şi nu ai cerut pentru tine nici viaţa lungă, nici bogăţii şi nici moartea duşmanilor tăi, ci ai cerut înţelepciune pentru a face dreptate,

12 l o, I have done according to thy words; lo, I have given to thee a heart, wise and understanding, that like thee there hath not been before thee, and after thee there doth not arise like thee;

voi face după cum ai cerut. Îţi voi da o minte înţeleaptă şi pricepută cum nu a avut nimeni înaintea ta şi nici nu se va mai ridica după tine nimeni asemenea ţie.

13 a nd also, that which thou hast not asked I have given to thee, both riches and honour, that there hath not been like thee a man among the kings all thy days;

Mai mult, îţi voi da şi ceea ce nu ai cerut, bogăţii şi faimă, aşa încât nu va fi nici un alt rege ca tine în tot timpul vieţii tale.

14 a nd if thou dost walk in My ways to keep My statutes, and My commands, as David thy father walked, then I have prolonged thy days.'

Şi, dacă vei umbla în căile Mele, păzind legile şi poruncile Mele, aşa cum a făcut tatăl tău, David, îţi voi lungi zilele.

15 A nd Solomon awaketh, and lo, a dream; and he cometh in to Jerusalem, and standeth before the ark of the covenant of Jehovah, and causeth to ascend burnt-offerings, and maketh peace-offerings. And he maketh a banquet for all his servants,

Solomon s-a trezit şi şi-a dat seama că a fost un vis. El s-a întors la Ierusalim, s-a înfăţişat înaintea Chivotului Legământului cu Domnul şi a adus arderi de tot şi jertfe de pace. Apoi a dat un ospăţ pentru toţi slujitorii săi. Înţelepciunea lui Solomon

16 t hen come in do two women, harlots, unto the king, and stand before him,

Atunci au venit înaintea regelui două prostituate.

17 a nd the one woman saith, `O, my lord, I and this woman are dwelling in one house, and I bring forth with her, in the house;

Cea dintâi a zis: – Stăpânul meu, eu locuiesc împreună cu această femeie în aceeaşi casă. Eu am născut un copil, în timp ce eram cu ea în casă,

18 a nd it cometh to pass on the third day of my bringing forth, that this woman also bringeth forth, and we together, there is no stranger with us in the house, save we two, in the house.

iar după trei zile de la naşterea fiului meu, a născut şi această femeie. Eram doar noi singure; nu mai era nici un alt străin în casă, ci doar noi două.

19 A nd the son of this woman dieth at night, because she hath lain upon it,

În timpul nopţii, fiul ei a murit pentru că se culcase peste el.

20 a nd she riseth in the middle of the night, and taketh my son from beside me -- and thy handmaid is asleep -- and layeth it in her bosom, and her dead son she hath laid in my bosom;

Ea s-a sculat pe la miezul nopţii, mi-a luat fiul de lângă mine, în timp ce dormeam şi l-a aşezat la sânul ei, iar pe fiul ei, care murise, l-a aşezat la sânul meu.

21 a nd I rise in the morning to suckle my son, and lo, dead; and I consider concerning it in the morning, and lo, it was not my son whom I did bear.'

M-am sculat dimineaţa ca să-mi alăptez fiul, dar el era mort. Când m-am uitat la el cu băgare de seamă la lumina zilei, am văzut că nu era fiul pe care-l născusem.

22 A nd the other woman saith, `Nay, but my son the living, and thy son the dead;' and this saith, `Nay, but thy son the dead, and my son the living.' And they speak before the king.

– Ba nu! a zis cealaltă femeie. Fiul meu este cel viu, iar cel mort este al tău! Dar cea dintâi a răspuns: – Nu, nu! Fiul tău este cel mort, iar fiul meu este cel viu! Aşa se certau ele înaintea regelui.

23 A nd the king saith, `This saith, This my son, the living, and thy son the dead; and that saith, Nay, but thy son the dead, and my son the living.'

Atunci regele a zis: – Una zice: „Fiul meu este cel viu, iar fiul tău este cel mort!“, iar cealaltă zice: „Ba nu, ci fiul tău este cel mort, iar fiul meu este cel viu!“

24 A nd the king saith, `Take for me a sword;' and they bring the sword before the king,

Apoi regele a poruncit: „Aduceţi-mi o sabie!“ Şi i-au adus o sabie.

25 a nd the king saith, `Cut the living child into two, and give the half to the one, and the half to the other.'

Iar el a zis: „Tăiaţi copilul cel viu în două şi daţi-i o jumătate uneia şi o jumătate celeilalte!“

26 A nd the woman whose son the living one saith unto the king (for her bowels yearned over her son), yea, she saith, `O, my lord, give to her the living child, and put it not at all to death;' and this saith, `Let it be neither mine or thine -- cut.'

Atunci femeia al cărei fiu era viu s-a umplut de durere pentru fiul ei şi a zis: – Te rog, stăpânul meu, dă-i ei copilul, dar nu-l omorî! Cealaltă însă zicea: – Să nu fie nici al meu, nici al tău! Tăiaţi-l în două!

27 A nd the king answereth and saith, `Give ye to her the living child, and put it not at all to death; she its mother.'

Regele a răspuns: – Daţi-i copilul cel viu primei femei şi nu-l omorâţi! Ea este mama lui.

28 A nd all Israel hear of the judgment that the king hath judged, and fear because of the king, for they have seen that the wisdom of God in his heart, to do judgment.

Când a auzit verdictul dat de rege, tot Israelul s-a temut de el, pentru că şi-a dat seama că înţelepciunea lui Dumnezeu era în el, ca să facă dreptate.
