1 A nd Elijah the Tishbite, of the inhabitants of Gilead, saith unto Ahab, `Jehovah, God of Israel, liveth, before whom I have stood, there is not these years dew and rain, except according to my word.'

Ilie tişbitul, din Tişba Ghiladului, i-a zis lui Ahab: „Viu este Domnul, Dumnezeul lui Israel, Căruia Îi slujesc, că nu va fi nici rouă, nici ploaie în aceşti ani decât la cuvântul meu.“

2 A nd the word of Jehovah is unto him, saying,

Apoi, Domnul i-a vorbit lui Ilie astfel:

3 ` Go from this; and thou hast turned for thee eastward, and been hidden by the brook Cherith, that on the front of the Jordan,

„Pleacă de aici, du-te spre răsărit şi ascunde-te lângă uedul Cherit, care se află la răsărit de Iordan!

4 a nd it hath been, from the brook thou dost drink, and the ravens I have commanded to sustain thee there.'

Vei bea apă din ued. Le-am poruncit corbilor să-ţi aducă de mâncare acolo“.

5 A nd he goeth and doth according to the word of Jehovah, yea, he goeth and dwelleth by the brook Cherith, that on the front of the Jordan,

El a făcut potrivit Cuvântului Domnului: s-a dus şi s-a aşezat lângă uedul Cherit, care se află la răsărit de Iordan.

6 a nd the ravens are bringing to him bread and flesh in the morning, and bread and flesh in the evening, and of the brook he drinketh.

Corbii îi aduceau pâine şi carne dimineaţa şi seara, iar apă bea din ued.

7 A nd it cometh to pass, at the end of days, that the brook drieth up, for there hath been no rain in the land,

După o vreme însă uedul a secat, pentru că nu mai plouase în ţară. Ilie şi văduva din Sarepta

8 a nd the word of Jehovah is unto him, saying,

Atunci Cuvântul Domnului a venit la el şi i-a vorbit astfel:

9 ` Rise, go to Zarephath, that to Zidon, and thou hast dwelt there; lo, I have commanded there a widow woman to sustain thee.'

„Scoală-te, du-te la Sarepta care aparţine de Sidon şi locuieşte acolo! I-am poruncit unei văduve de acolo să-ţi dea de mâncare.“

10 A nd he riseth, and goeth to Zarephath, and cometh in unto the opening of the city, and lo there, a widow woman gathering sticks, and he calleth unto her, and saith, `Bring, I pray thee, to me, a little water in a vessel, and I drink.'

El s-a sculat şi s-a dus la Sarepta. Când a ajuns la poarta cetăţii, a văzut o văduvă care strângea lemne. El a strigat-o şi i-a zis: – Te rog, adu-mi puţină apă într-un vas ca să beau!

11 A nd she goeth to bring, and he calleth unto her and saith, `Bring, I pray thee, to me a morsel of bread in thy hand.'

Ea a plecat să-i aducă apă, dar Ilie a strigat-o şi i-a zis: – Te rog, adu-mi şi o bucată de pâine!

12 A nd she saith, `Jehovah thy God liveth, I have not a cake, but the fulness of the hand of meal in a pitcher, and a little oil in a dish; and lo, I am gathering two sticks, and have gone in and prepared it for myself, and for my son, and we have eaten it -- and died.'

– Viu este Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, i-a răspuns ea, că nu am pâine, ci doar un pumn de făină într-un vas şi puţin ulei într-un urcior. Dar iată, strâng acum două bucăţi de lemne, apoi mă voi întoarce acasă şi voi pregăti cu acestea pâine pentru mine şi pentru fiul meu ca să mâncăm; după aceea vom muri.

13 A nd Elijah saith unto her, `Fear not, go, do according to thy word, only make for me thence a little cake, in the first place, and thou hast brought out to me; and for thee and for thy son make -- last;

– Nu te teme, i-a zis Ilie; du-te şi fă precum ai spus. Dar mai întâi fă din ceea ce ai o bucată mică de pâine pentru mine şi adu-mi-o; după aceea vei face şi pentru tine şi pentru fiul tău,

14 f or thus said Jehovah, God of Israel, The pitcher of meal is not consumed, and the dish of oil is not lacking, till the day of Jehovah's giving a shower on the face of the ground.'

căci aşa vorbeşte Domnul, Dumnezeul lui Israel: „Făina din vas nu se va consuma, iar uleiul din urcior nu se va termina până în ziua în care Domnul va da ploaie pe pământ.“

15 A nd she goeth, and doth according to the word of Elijah, and she eateth, she and he, and her household -- days;

Ea s-a dus şi a făcut aşa cum i-a cerut Ilie. Şi astfel ea, Ilie şi familia ei au avut de mâncare în fiecare zi.

16 t he pitcher of meal was not consumed, and the dish of oil did not lack, according to the word of Jehovah that He spake by the hand of Elijah.

Făina din vas nu s-a consumat şi uleiul din urcior nu s-a terminat, potrivit Cuvântului Domnului rostit prin Ilie.

17 A nd it cometh to pass, after these things, the son of the woman, mistress of the house, hath been sick, and his sickness is very severe till that no breath hath been left in him.

După aceea fiul femeii, stăpâna casei, s-a îmbolnăvit. S-a îmbolnăvit atât de grav, încât n-a mai rămas suflare în el.

18 A nd she saith unto Elijah, `What -- to me and to thee, O man of God? thou hast come unto me to cause mine iniquity to be remembered, and to put my son to death!'

Atunci ea i-a zis lui Ilie: – Ce ai împotriva mea, om al lui Dumnezeu? Ai venit aici să-mi aminteşti păcatul meu şi să aduci moartea fiului meu?

19 A nd he saith unto her, `Give to me thy son;' and he taketh him out of her bosom, and taketh him up unto the upper chamber where he is abiding, and layeth him on his own bed,

– Dă-mi-l încoace pe fiul tău, i-a zis el. L-a luat din braţele ei, l-a dus în odaia de sus unde locuia el şi l-a aşezat pe patul său.

20 a nd crieth unto Jehovah, and saith, `Jehovah my God, also on the widow with whom I am sojourning hast Thou done evil -- to put her son to death?'

Apoi a strigat către Domnul, spunând: „ Doamne, Dumnezeul meu, de ce ai adus această nenorocire peste această văduvă la care locuiesc, făcând ca fiul ei să moară?“

21 A nd he stretcheth himself out on the lad three times, and calleth unto Jehovah, and saith, `O Jehovah my God, let turn back, I pray Thee, the soul of this lad into his midst;'

El s-a întins de trei ori peste copil şi a strigat către Domnul, zicând: „ Doamne, Dumnezeul meu, Te rog fă ca sufletul acestui copil să se întoarcă în el!“

22 a nd Jehovah hearkeneth to the voice of Elijah, and the soul of the lad turneth back into his midst, and he liveth.

Domnul l-a ascultat pe Ilie; sufletul copilului s-a întors în el şi el a revenit la viaţă.

23 A nd Elijah taketh the lad, and bringeth him down from the upper chamber of the house, and giveth him to his mother, and Elijah saith, `See, thy son liveth!'

Ilie l-a luat pe copil, l-a coborât în casă din odaia de sus, i l-a dat mamei sale şi i-a zis: – Iată, fiul tău trăieşte!

24 A nd the woman saith unto Elijah, `Now, this I have known, that a man of God thou, and the word of Jehovah in thy mouth truth.'

Femeia i-a zis lui Ilie: – Acum ştiu că eşti un om al lui Dumnezeu, iar Cuvântul Domnului pe care-l rosteşti este adevăr!
