1 P ursue the love, and seek earnestly the spiritual things, and rather that ye may prophecy,

Urmăriţi dragostea şi fiţi plini de râvnă după darurile duhovniceşti, în special după darul profeţiei.

2 f or he who is speaking in an tongue -- to men he doth not speak, but to God, for no one doth hearken, and in spirit he doth speak secrets;

Căci cel ce vorbeşte într-o limbă nu vorbeşte oamenilor, ci lui Dumnezeu, întrucât nimeni nu-l înţelege, iar cu duhul spune taine.

3 a nd he who is prophesying to men doth speak edification, and exhortation, and comfort;

Dar cel ce profeţeşte le vorbeşte oamenilor, pentru zidire, încurajare şi mângâiere.

4 h e who is speaking in an tongue, himself doth edify, and he who is prophesying, an assembly doth edify;

Cel ce vorbeşte într-o limbă se zideşte pe sine, dar cel ce profeţeşte zideşte biserica.

5 a nd I wish you all to speak with tongues, and more that ye may prophecy, for greater is he who is prophesying than he who is speaking with tongues, except one may interpret, that the assembly may receive edification.

Eu vreau ca toţi să vorbiţi în limbi, şi încă şi mai mult – să profeţiţi. Cel ce profeţeşte este mai mare decât cel ce vorbeşte în limbi, afară numai dacă nu este cineva să traducă, pentru ca biserica să poată fi zidită.

6 A nd now, brethren, if I may come unto you speaking tongues, what shall I profit you, except I shall speak to you either in revelation, or in knowledge, or in prophesying, or in teaching?

Acum, fraţilor, dacă eu vin la voi, vorbind în limbi, cu ce vă voi ajuta, dacă nu vă aduc o descoperire sau o cunoaştere sau o profeţie, sau o învăţătură?

7 y et the things without life giving sound -- whether pipe or harp -- if a difference in the sounds they may not give, how shall be known that which is piped or that which is harped?

La fel este şi cu lucrurile neînsufleţite, care dau un sunet, fie un fluier, fie o harfă: dacă notele nu se disting clar, cum va şti cineva ce se cântă la fluier sau la harfă?

8 f or if also an uncertain sound a trumpet may give, who shall prepare himself for battle?

Dacă trâmbiţa dă un sunet neclar, cine va fi gata pentru bătălie?

9 s o also ye, if through the tongue, speech easily understood ye may not give -- how shall that which is spoken be known? for ye shall be speaking to air.

Aşa este şi cu voi: dacă nu spuneţi cuvinte care să fie înţelese în limba voastră, cum va înţelege cineva ce spuneţi? Veţi vorbi în vânt!

10 T here are, it may be, so many kinds of voices in the world, and none of them is unmeaning,

Fără îndoială, există în lume tot felul de limbi diferite şi nici una nu este fără sens.

11 i f, then, I do not know the power of the voice, I shall be to him who is speaking a foreigner, and he who is speaking, is to me a foreigner;

Aşadar, dacă eu nu înţeleg ceea ce se spune, eu voi fi un barbar pentru cel care vorbeşte, iar cel care vorbeşte va fi un barbar pentru mine.

12 s o also ye, since ye are earnestly desirous of spiritual gifts, for the building up of the assembly seek that ye may abound;

La fel şi cu voi: întrucât sunteţi plini de râvnă pentru daruri duhovniceşti, căutaţi să le manifestaţi pe deplin, pentru zidirea bisericii.

13 w herefore he who is speaking in an tongue -- let him pray that he may interpret;

De aceea, cel care vorbeşte într-o limbă să se roage şi pentru puterea de a o traduce.

14 f or if I pray in an tongue, my spirit doth pray, and my understanding is unfruitful.

Căci, dacă mă rog într-o limbă, duhul meu se roagă, însă mintea mea este neroditoare.

15 W hat then is it? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray also with the understanding; I will sing psalms with the spirit, and I will sing psalms also with the understanding;

Aşadar, ce voi face? Mă voi ruga cu duhul, dar mă voi ruga şi cu mintea, voi cânta laude cu duhul, dar voi cânta laude şi cu mintea.

16 s ince, if thou mayest bless with the spirit, he who is filling the place of the unlearned, how shall he say the Amen at thy giving of thanks, since what thou dost say he hath not known?

Când tu mulţumeşti doar cu duhul, cum poate cineva, care nu înţelege, să ia parte la întâlnire şi să spună „Amin!“ la mulţumirea ta, dacă el nu ştie ce spui?

17 f or thou, indeed, dost give thanks well, but the other is not built up!

Tu poţi mulţumi bine, însă celălalt nu este zidit.

18 I give thanks to my God -- more than you all with tongues speaking --

Eu Îi mulţumesc lui Dumnezeu că vorbesc în limbi mai mult decât voi toţi,

19 b ut in an assembly I wish to speak five words through my understanding, that others also I may instruct, rather than myriads of words in an tongue.

dar în biserică vreau mai degrabă să spun cinci cuvinte cu mintea mea, pentru a-i învăţa pe alţii, decât zece mii de cuvinte într-o altă limbă.

20 B rethren, become not children in the understanding, but in the evil be ye babes, and in the understanding become ye perfect;

Fraţilor, nu fiţi copii în gândire, ci fiţi copii în ce priveşte răul, iar în gândire fiţi maturi.

21 i n the law it hath been written, that, `With other tongues and with other lips I will speak to this people, and not even so will they hear Me, saith the Lord;'

În Lege este scris: „Într-o altă limbă şi prin buze străine voi vorbi acestui popor, dar nici atunci nu Mă vor asculta, zice Domnul.“

22 s o that the tongues are for a sign, not to the believing, but to the unbelieving; and the prophesy not for the unbelieving, but for the believing,

Astfel, limbile sunt un semn nu pentru credincioşi, ci pentru necredincioşi, în timp ce profeţia nu este un semn pentru necredincioşi, ci pentru credincioşi.

23 I f, therefore, the whole assembly may come together, to the same place, and all may speak with tongues, and there may come in unlearned or unbelievers, will they not say that ye are mad?

De aceea, dacă se adună întreaga biserică şi toţi vorbesc în limbi şi intră cineva care nu înţelege sau intră nişte necredincioşi, oare nu vor spune ei că v-aţi ieşit din minţi?

24 a nd if all may prophecy, and any one may come in, an unbeliever or unlearned, he is convicted by all, he is discerned by all,

Dar dacă toţi profeţiţi şi intră un necredincios sau cineva care nu înţelege, va fi mustrat de toţi, va fi judecat de toţi,

25 a nd so the secrets of his heart become manifest, and so having fallen upon face, he will bow before God, declaring that God really is among you.

vor fi descoperite gândurile secrete ale inimii lui şi astfel va cădea la pământ şi I se va închina lui Dumnezeu, spunând: „Într-adevăr, Dumnezeu este în mijlocul vostru!“ O ordine a închinării

26 W hat then is it, brethren? whenever ye may come together, each of you hath a psalm, hath a teaching, hath a tongue, hath a revelation, hath an interpretation? let all things be for building up;

Deci, ce ar trebui făcut, fraţilor? Când vă adunaţi, fiecare are un psalm, un cuvânt de învăţătură, o descoperire, o vorbă în altă limbă, o interpretare. Toate să fie făcute pentru zidire.

27 i f an tongue any one do speak, by two, or at the most, by three, and in turn, and let one interpret;

Dacă cineva vorbeşte într-o limbă, să fie doi sau cel mult trei, să fie unul după altul, iar unul să traducă.

28 a nd if there may be no interpreter, let him be silent in an assembly, and to himself let him speak, and to God.

Dacă însă nu este nimeni care să traducă, atunci să nu vorbească în biserică, ci să-şi vorbească lui însuşi şi lui Dumnezeu.

29 A nd prophets -- let two or three speak, and let the others discern,

Să vorbească doi sau trei profeţi, iar alţii să judece cu atenţie ce este spus.

30 a nd if to another sitting may be revealed, let the first be silent;

Dacă însă altuia, care stă jos, i se dă o descoperire, primul să tacă.

31 f or ye are able, one by one, all to prophesy, that all may learn, and all may be exhorted,

Toţi dintre voi pot profeţi pe rând, pentru ca toţi să înveţe şi toţi să fie încurajaţi.

32 a nd the spiritual gift of prophets to prophets are subject,

Duhurile profeţilor le sunt supuse profeţilor,

33 f or God is not of tumult, but of peace, as in all the assemblies of the saints.

pentru că Dumnezeu nu este un Dumnezeu al dezordinii, ci al păcii. La fel ca în toate bisericile sfinţilor,

34 Y our women in the assemblies let them be silent, for it hath not been permitted to them to speak, but to be subject, as also the law saith;

femeile să tacă în biserici, pentru că nu le este permis să vorbească, ci să fie supuse, aşa cum spune şi Legea.

35 a nd if they wish to learn anything, at home their own husbands let them question, for it is a shame to women to speak in an assembly.

Dacă vor să afle ceva, să-şi întrebe soţii acasă, pentru că este ruşinos pentru o femeie să vorbească în biserică.

36 F rom you did the word of God come forth? or to you alone did it come?

Sau oare Cuvântul lui Dumnezeu a început cu voi? Sau voi sunteţi singurii pe care i-a atins?

37 i f any one doth think to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge the things that I write to you -- that of the Lord they are commands;

Dacă cineva crede că este profet sau este înzestrat duhovniceşte, trebuie să-şi dea seama că ceea ce vă scriu este o poruncă a Domnului.

38 a nd if any one is ignorant -- let him be ignorant;

Dacă însă cineva nu recunoaşte aceasta, nici el nu va fi recunoscut.

39 s o that, brethren, earnestly desire to prophesy, and to speak with tongues do not forbid;

Astfel, fraţii mei, fiţi plini de râvnă pentru a profeţi şi nu interziceţi vorbirea în limbi.

40 l et all things be done decently and in order.

Totul trebuie să fie făcut aşa cum se cuvine şi în ordine.
