1 A t that time, an affirmation of Jehovah, They bring the bones of the kings of Judah, And the bones of its princes, And the bones of the priests, And the bones of the prophets, And the bones of inhabitants of Jerusalem, Out of their graves,

În vremea aceea, zice Domnul, osemintele regilor şi ale conducătorilor lui Iuda, osemintele preoţilor şi ale profeţilor şi osemintele locuitorilor Ierusalimului vor fi scoase din mormintele lor,

2 A nd have spread them to sun, and to moon, And to all the host of the heavens, that they have loved, And that they have served, And that they have walked after, And that they have sought, And to which they have bowed themselves, They are not gathered, nor buried, They are for dung on the face of the ground.

vor fi întinse în faţa soarelui, a lunii şi a întregii oştiri a cerului, a acelora pe care ei i-au iubit, i-au slujit, i-au urmat, i-au căutat şi s-au închinat înaintea lor. Nu vor mai fi adunate, nici îngropate, ci vor fi un gunoi pe faţa pământului.

3 A nd chosen is death rather than life By all the remnant who are left of this evil family, In all the remaining places, whither I have driven them, An affirmation of Jehovah of Hosts.

În toate locurile unde îi voi izgoni, toţi cei ce vor supravieţui din acest neam rău vor prefera mai degrabă moartea decât viaţa, zice Domnul Oştirilor.“ Păcat şi pedeapsă

4 A nd thou hast said unto them: Thus said Jehovah, Do they fall, and not rise? Doth he turn back, and not return?

„Spune-le că aşa vorbeşte Domnul: «Cine cade şi nu se mai ridică? Cine se abate din drum fără să se întoarcă iarăşi?

5 W herefore hath this people of Jerusalem Turned back -- a perpetual backsliding? They have kept hold on deceit, They have refused to turn back.

De ce atunci cei din poporul acesta se abat din drum, iar Ierusalimul stăruie în apostazie? Ei se întăresc tot mai mult în înşelătorie şi refuză să se întoarcă?

6 I have given attention, yea, I hearken, They do not speak right, No man hath repented of his wickedness, Saying, What have I done? Every one hath turned to his courses, As a horse is rushing into battle.

Am ascultat cu atenţie, dar ei nu rostesc ceea ce este drept. Nici unuia nu-i pare rău de răul lui şi nu se întreabă: ‘Ce am făcut?’. Toţi îşi încep din nou alergarea, ca un cal care se aruncă în luptă.

7 E ven a stork in the heavens hath known her seasons, And turtle, and swallow, and crane, Have watched the time of their coming, And -- My people have not known the judgment of Jehovah.

Până şi barza îşi cunoaşte timpul ei pe ceruri; turturica, lăstunul şi cocorul iau aminte la timpul când trebuie să vină. Dar poporul Meu nu cunoaşte porunca Domnului.

8 H ow do ye say, We wise, And the law of Jehovah with us? Surely, lo, falsely it hath wrought, The false pen of scribes.

Cum puteţi spune: ‘Suntem înţelepţi, căci avem Legea Domnului!’, când, de fapt, pana mincinoasă a scribilor a transformat-o într-o minciună?

9 A shamed have been the wise, They have been affrighted, and are captured, Lo, against a word of Jehovah they kicked, And the wisdom of what -- have they?

Înţelepţii sunt daţi de ruşine, sunt îngroziţi şi capturaţi. De vreme ce au respins Cuvântul Domnului, ce fel de înţelepciune au ei?

10 T herefore, I give their wives to others, Their fields to dispossessors, For from the least even unto the greatest, Every one is gaining dishonest gain, From prophet even unto priest, every one is dealing falsely.

De aceea, pe soţiile lor le voi da altor bărbaţi şi terenurile lor altor proprietari. Căci, de la cel mai mic până la cel mai mare, toţi sunt lacomi de câştig; de la profet până la preot, toţi înşală.

11 A nd they heal the breach of the daughter of my people slightly, Saying, Peace, peace! and there is no peace.

Ei leagă în mod uşuratic rana fiicei poporului Meu, zicând: ‘Pace, pace!’, când nu este pace.

12 T hey were ashamed when they did abomination! Yea, they are not at all ashamed, And blushing they have not known, Therefore, they do fall among falling ones, In the time of their inspection they stumble, said Jehovah.

Le este lor ruşine de urâciunile pe care le săvârşesc? Nu, nu le este ruşine deloc; nici măcar nu ştiu să roşească. De aceea, vor cădea împreună cu cei ce cad şi vor fi răsturnaţi, când vor fi pedepsiţi, zice Domnul.

13 I utterly consume them, an affirmation of Jehovah, There are no grapes in the vine, Yea, there are no figs in the fig-tree, And the leaf hath faded, And the strength they have passeth from them.

Voi face să le înceteze recolta, zice Domnul. Nu vor mai fi struguri în vie, nu vor mai fi smochine în smochin, iar frunzele se vor veşteji. Ceea ce le-am dat va fi luat de la ei. »“

14 W herefore are we sitting still? Be gathered, and we go in to the fenced cities, And we are silent there, For Jehovah our God hath made us silent, Yea, He causeth us to drink water of gall, For we have sinned against Jehovah.

„De ce mai staţi în aşteptare? Adunaţi-vă! Să intrăm în cetăţile fortificate şi să pierim acolo! Căci Domnul, Dumnezeul nostru, ne-a condamnat la moarte şi ne dă să bem ape otrăvite, pentru că am păcătuit împotriva Lui.

15 L ooking for peace -- and there is no good, For a time of healing, and lo, terror.

Aşteptam pacea, dar n-a venit nimic bun; aşteptam un timp de vindecare, dar iată că vine numai teroare.

16 F rom Dan hath been heard the snorting of his horses, From the voice of the neighings of his mighty ones, Trembled hath all the land, And they come in and consume the land and its fulness, The city and the inhabitants in it.

Gâfâitul cailor duşmanilor se aude din Dan; la nechezatul armăsarilor lor se cutremură toată ţara; au venit să devoreze ţara şi tot ce cuprinde ea, cetatea şi pe cei ce locuiesc în ea.“

17 F or, lo, I am sending among you serpents, Vipers that have no charmer, And they have bitten you, an affirmation of Jehovah.

„Iată, voi trimite printre voi nişte şerpi veninoşi, nişte vipere care nu pot fi vrăjite şi care vă vor muşca, zice Domnul.“

18 M y refreshing for me sorrow, For me my heart sick.

„Durerea mea nu are leac! Inima îmi este sleită în mine!

19 L o, the voice of a cry of the daughter of my people from a land afar off, Is Jehovah not in Zion? is her king not in her? Wherefore have they provoked Me with their graven images, With the vanities of a foreigner?

Iată, strigătul fiicei poporului meu răsună dintr-o ţară îndepărtată: «Nu mai este Domnul în Sion? Nu mai este Împăratul lui acolo?»“ „De ce M-au provocat la mânie prin chipurile lor cioplite, prin idolii lor străini ce nu sunt de nici un folos?“

20 H arvest hath passed, summer hath ended, And we -- we have not been saved.

„Secerişul a trecut, vara s-a terminat, iar noi tot nu suntem izbăviţi.

21 F or a breach of the daughter of my people have I been broken, I have been black, astonishment hath seized me.

Sunt zdrobit de durerea fiicei poporului meu; jelesc, iar spaima mă cuprinde.

22 I s there no balm in Gilead? Is there no physician there? For wherefore hath not the health of the daughter of my people gone up?

Nu este nici un balsam vindecător în Ghilad? Nu este nici un doctor acolo? De ce nu este vindecare pentru rana fiicei poporului meu?
