1 ` When there is a strife between men, and they have come nigh unto the judgment, and they have judged, and declared righteous the righteous, and declared wrong the wrong-doer,

Când doi oameni se vor certa între ei, să se înfăţişeze la judecată şi să fie judecaţi. Să fie considerat drept cel nevinovat, iar cel vinovat să fie condamnat.

2 t hen it hath come to pass, if the wrong-doer is to be smitten, that the judge hath caused him to fall down, and hath smitten him in his presence, according to the sufficiency of his wrong-doing, by number;

Dacă cel vinovat merită să fie lovit, judecătorul să pună să-l întindă la pământ ca să fie lovit înaintea lui cu un număr de lovituri potrivit vinovăţiei lui,

3 f orty he doth smite him -- he is not adding, lest, he is adding to smite him above these -- many stripes, and thy brother is lightly esteemed in thine eyes.

dar să nu i se dea mai mult de patruzeci de lovituri, pentru ca nu cumva, dându-i-se mai multe lovituri, fratele vostru să fie înjosit în ochii voştri.

4 ` Thou dost not muzzle an ox in its threshing.

Să nu legi gura boului în timp ce treieră grâul. Legea leviratului

5 ` When brethren dwell together, and one of them hath died, and hath no son, the wife of the dead is not without to a strange man; her husband's brother doth go in unto her, and hath taken her to him for a wife, and doth perform the duty of her husband's brother;

Dacă fraţii locuiesc împreună, iar unul dintre ei moare fără să aibă copii, soţia celui mort să nu se mărite în afara familiei. Fratele soţului ei trebuie să intre la ea şi să se căsătorească cu ea, împlinindu-şi astfel datoria de cumnat faţă de aceasta.

6 a nd it hath been, the first-born which she beareth doth rise for the name of his dead brother, and his name is not wiped away out of Israel.

Întâiul născut pe care ea îl va naşte, va purta numele celui mort pentru ca să nu i se piardă numele în Israel.

7 ` And if the man doth not delight to take his brother's wife, then hath his brother's wife gone up to the gate, unto the elders, and said, My husband's brother is refusing to raise up to his brother a name in Israel; he hath not been willing to perform the duty of my husband's brother;

Dacă bărbatul acesta nu va dori să se căsătorească cu soţia fratelui lui, atunci ea să se ducă la cei din sfatul bătrânilor, la porţile cetăţii şi să le spună: «Cumnatul meu nu vrea să ridice numele fratelui său în Israel şi nu doreşte să-şi împlinească datoria de cumnat.»

8 a nd the elders of his city have called for him, and spoken unto him, and he hath stood and said, I have no desire to take her;

Cei din sfatul bătrânilor cetăţii să-l cheme la ei şi să-i vorbească. Dacă el refuză în continuare să se căsătorească cu ea,

9 ` Then hath his brother's wife drawn nigh unto him, before the eyes of the elders, and drawn his shoe from off his foot, and spat in his face, and answered and said, Thus it is done to the man who doth not build up the house of his brother;

cumnata lui să se apropie de el înaintea sfatului bătrânilor, să-i scoată sandala din picior, să-l scuipe în faţă şi să-i spună: «Astfel se face bărbatului care nu vrea să ridice un moştenitor fratelui său.»

10 a nd his name hath been called in Israel -- The house of him whose shoe is drawn off.

Familia lui va fi cunoscută în Israel ca «familia celui descălţat». Diferite reglementări

11 ` When men strive together, one with another, and the wife of the one hath drawn near to deliver her husband out of the hand of his smiter, and hath put forth her hand, and laid hold on his secrets,

Dacă doi oameni se vor lupta unul cu celălalt, iar soţia unuia dintre ei se va apropia ca să-şi scape soţul din mâna celui ce-l loveşte şi, întinzându-şi mâna, îl prinde pe acesta de părţile ruşinoase,

12 t hen thou hast cut off her hand, thine eye doth not spare.

să-i tăiaţi mâna. Să nu vă fie milă de ea.

13 ` Thou hast not in thy bag a stone and a stone, a great and a small.

Să nu ai în sacul tău două greutăţi diferite: una mai grea şi alta mai uşoară.

14 T hou hast not in thy house an ephah and an ephah, a great and a small.

Să nu ai în casă două unităţi de măsură diferite: una mai îngustă decât cealaltă.

15 T hou hast a stone complete and just, thou hast an ephah complete and just, so that they prolong thy days on the ground which Jehovah thy God is giving to thee;

Să ai o greutate adevărată şi dreaptă şi o unitate de măsură adevărată şi dreaptă, ca să trăieşti multe zile în ţara pe care Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, ţi-o dă.

16 f or the abomination of Jehovah thy God any one doing these things, any one doing iniquity.

Căci toţi aceia care fac astfel de lucruri, toţi aceia care fac ce nu este drept sunt o urâciune înaintea Domnului, Dumnezeul tău.

17 ` Remember that which Amalek hath done to thee in the way, in your going out from Egypt,

Aduceţi-vă aminte ce v-au făcut amalekiţii pe drum, când aţi ieşit din Egipt.

18 t hat he hath met thee in the way, and smiteth in all those feeble behind thee (and thou wearied and fatigued), and is not fearing God.

Când eraţi obosiţi şi sleiţi de puteri, ei v-au întâlnit pe drum şi i-au atacat pe toţi cei care erau istoviţi în urma voastră; ei n-au avut nici o teamă de Dumnezeu.

19 A nd it hath been, in Jehovah thy God's giving rest to thee, from all thine enemies round about, in the land which Jehovah thy God is giving to thee -- an inheritance to possess it -- thou dost blot out the rememberance of Amalek from under the heavens -- thou dost not forget.

Când Domnul, Dumnezeul vostru, vă va da odihnă de toţi duşmanii care sunt în jurul vostru, în ţara pe care El v-o dă drept moştenire, ca s-o stăpâniţi, să ştergeţi amintirea lui Amalek de sub cer. Să nu uitaţi lucrul acesta!
