1 T hat which hath been the word of Jehovah unto Jeremiah concerning the Philistines, before Pharaoh smiteth Gaza:

Iată Cuvântul Domnului care a venit la profetul Ieremia cu privire la filisteni, înainte ca Faraon să atace Gaza.

2 ` Thus said Jehovah: Lo, waters are coming up from the north, And have been for an overflowing stream, And they overflow the land and its fulness, The city, and the inhabitants in it, And men have cried out, And howled hath every inhabitant of the land.

„Aşa vorbeşte Domnul: «Iată cum se ridică nişte ape din nord; ele cresc asemenea unui torent care se revarsă. Ele inundă ţara şi tot ce cuprinde ea, cetatea şi pe cei ce locuiesc în ea. Oamenii vor ţipa, toţi locuitorii ţării vor scoate urlete

3 F rom the sound of the stamping of the hoofs of his mighty ones, From the rushing of his chariot, the noise of his wheels, Fathers have not turned unto sons, From feebleness of hands,

la auzul tropăitului de copite a puternicilor armăsari, la zgomotul carelor duşmanilor şi la huruitul roţilor lor. Părinţii nu se vor întoarce după copiii lor, atât de încremenite le vor fi mâinile.

4 B ecause of the day that hath come to spoil all the Philistines, To cut off to Tyre and to Zidon every helping remnant. For Jehovah is spoiling the Philistines, The remnant of the isle of Caphtor.

Căci vine ziua când vor fi nimiciţi toţi filistenii, când vor fi ucişi toţi supravieţuitorii care ar putea ajuta Tirul şi Sidonul. Domnul îi va nimici pe filisteni, rămăşiţa insulei Caftor.

5 C ome hath baldness unto Gaza, Cut off hath been Ashkelon, O remnant of their valley, Till when dost thou cut thyself?

Gaza va deveni pleşuvă şi Aşchelonul va fi redus la tăcere. Rămăşiţă din câmpie, până când îţi vei face singură tăieturi?»“

6 H o, sword of Jehovah, till when art thou not quiet? Be removed unto thy sheath, rest and cease.

„Ah, sabie a Domnului, când te vei linişti? Întoarce-te în teaca ta! Opreşte-te şi stai liniştită!“

7 H ow shall it be quiet, And Jehovah hath given a charge to it, Against Ashkelon, and against the sea shore? There hath He appointed it!'

„Dar cum ar putea să stea liniştită când Domnul i-a dat poruncă să atace Aşchelonul şi coasta mării?“
