1 A nd Balaam seeth that good in the eyes of Jehovah to bless Israel, and he hath not gone as time by time to meet enchantments, and he setteth towards the wilderness his face;

Când Balaam a văzut că lui Dumnezeu îi place să-l binecuvânteze pe Israel, n-a mai umblat după farmece ca în celelalte dăţi, ci şi-a întors faţa spre pustie.

2 a nd Balaam lifteth up his eyes, and seeth Israel tabernacling, by its tribes, and the Spirit of God is upon him,

Ridicându-şi ochii, a văzut pe Israel organizat pe seminţii. Atunci Duhul lui Dumnezeu a venit peste el,

3 a nd he taketh up his simile, and saith: `An affirmation of Balaam son of Beor -- And an affirmation of the man whose eyes are shut --

iar Balaam a început să rostească oracolul acesta: „ Iată rostirea lui Balaam, fiul lui Beor, rostirea celui ai cărui ochi sunt deschişi,

4 A n affirmation of him who is hearing sayings of God -- Who a vision of the Almighty seeth, Falling -- and eyes uncovered:

rostirea celui care aude spusele lui Dumnezeu, care vede o viziune de la Cel Atotputernic, care este prosternat înaintea Lui şi ai cărui ochi sunt deschişi:

5 H ow good have been thy tents, O Jacob, Thy tabernacles, O Israel;

«Ce frumoase sunt corturile tale, Iacove, locuinţele tale, Israele!

6 A s valleys they have been stretched out, As gardens by a river; As aloes Jehovah hath planted, As cedars by waters;

Se întind ca nişte ueduri, ca nişte grădini lângă un râu, ca nişte plante de aloe sădite de Domnul, ca nişte cedri lângă ape.

7 H e maketh water flow from his buckets, And his seed in many waters; And higher than Agag his king, And exalted is his kingdom.

Apa va curge din găleţile lui şi sămânţa lui va fi udată de ape mari. Regele lui va fi mai măreţ decât Agag şi regatul lui va fi înălţat.

8 G od is bringing him out of Egypt; As the swiftness of a Reem is to him, He eateth up nations his adversaries, And their bones he breaketh, And his arrows he smiteth,

Dumnezeu l-a scos din Egipt, i-a dat tăria unui bivol sălbatic. Va devora neamurile duşmane, le va zdrobi oasele şi le va străpunge cu săgeţile lui.

9 H e hath bent, he hath lain down as a lion, And as a lioness: who doth raise him up? He who is blessing thee blessed, And he who is cursing thee cursed.'

Se ghemuieşte, se întinde ca un leu, ca o leoaică – cine va îndrăzni să-l scoale? Binecuvântat să fie cel care te binecuvântează şi blestemat să fie cel care te blestemă!»“

10 A nd the anger of Balak burneth against Balaam, and he striketh his hands; and Balak saith unto Balaam, `To pierce mine enemies I called thee, and lo, thou hast certainly blessed -- these three times;

Atunci Balak s-a aprins de mânie împotriva lui Balaam. A bătut din palme şi i-a zis lui Balaam: – Eu te-am chemat ca să-mi blestemi duşmanii, dar tu i-ai binecuvântat de trei ori.

11 a nd now, flee for thyself unto thy place; I have said, I do greatly honour thee, and lo, Jehovah hath kept thee back from honour.'

Acum fugi, du-te acasă! Am zis că te voi umple de slavă, dar iată că Domnul te-a împiedicat să primeşti slavă.

12 A nd Balaam saith unto Balak, `Did I not also unto thy messengers whom thou hast sent unto me, speak, saying,

Balaam i-a răspuns lui Balak: – Nu le-am spus eu oare solilor tăi, pe care i-ai trimis la mine:

13 I f Balak doth give to me the fulness of his house of silver and gold, I am not able to pass over the command of Jehovah, to do good or evil of mine own heart -- that which Jehovah speaketh -- it I speak?

„Chiar dacă Balak mi-ar da palatul lui plin cu argint şi aur, eu tot n-aş putea să fac nimic de la mine însumi, fie bine, fie rău, dincolo de porunca Domnului, ci voi spune doar ce-mi va zice Domnul. “

14 a nd, now, lo, I am going to my people; come, I counsel thee that which this people doth to thy people, in the latter end of the days.'

Acum mă întorc la poporul meu, dar vino să te avertizez cu privire la ce va face poporul acesta poporului tău, în zilele care vin. Al patrulea oracol rostit de Balaam

15 A nd he taketh up his simile, and saith: `An affirmation of Balaam son of Beor -- And an affirmation of the man whose eyes shut --

Atunci el şi-a rostit oracolul şi a zis: „ Iată rostirea lui Balaam, fiul lui Beor, rostirea celui ai cărui ochi sunt deschişi,

16 A n affirmation of him who is hearing sayings of God -- And knowing knowledge of the Most High; A vision of the Almighty he seeth, Falling -- and eyes uncovered:

rostirea celui care aude spusele lui Dumnezeu, care are cunoaşterea Celui Preaînalt, care vede o viziune de la Cel Atotputernic, care este prosternat înaintea Lui şi ai cărui ochi sunt deschişi:

17 I see it, but not now; I behold it, but not near; A star hath proceeded from Jacob, And a sceptre hath risen from Israel, And hath smitten corners of Moab, And hath destroyed all sons of Sheth.

«Îl văd, dar nu acum, îl privesc, dar nu de aproape! O stea răsare din Iacov, un sceptru se ridică din Israel. El va zdrobi căpeteniile Moabului şi capetele tuturor fiilor lui Şet.

18 A nd Edom hath been a possession, And Seir hath been a possession, its enemies, And Israel is doing valiantly;

Edom va fi cucerit; Seir, duşmanul lui, va fi cucerit, dar Israel va creşte în putere.

19 A nd doth rule out of Jacob, And hath destroyed a remnant from Ar.'

Din Iacov va ieşi cel ce va domni şi-i va distruge pe supravieţuitorii cetăţii.»“ Alte oracole rostite de Balaam

20 A nd he seeth Amalek, and taketh up his simile, and saith: `A beginning of the Goyim Amalek; And his latter end -- for ever he perisheth.'

Apoi Balaam l-a văzut pe Amalek şi a rostit următorul oracol: „Amalek a fost primul dintre popoare, dar sfârşitul lui va fi o pieire veşnică.“

21 A nd he seeth the Kenite, and taketh up his simile, and saith: `Enduring thy dwelling, And setting in a rock thy nest,

Când i-a văzut şi pe cheniţi, a rostit următorul oracol: „Locuinţa vă este sigură şi cuibul se află pe o stâncă,

22 B ut the Kenite is for a burning; Till when doth Asshur keep thee captive?'

dar voi, cheniţilor, veţi fi pustiiţi atunci când Asurul vă va lua în captivitate.“

23 A nd he taketh up his simile, and saith: `Alas! who doth live when God doth this?

După aceea a mai rostit următorul oracol: „Vai! Cine va mai trăi când Dumnezeu va împlini toate acestea?

24 A nd -- ships from the side of Chittim, And they have humbled Asshur, And they have humbled Eber, And it also for ever is perishing.'

Nişte corăbii vor veni de pe ţărmul Chitimului; ele vor smeri Asurul şi vor smeri Eberul, dar şi el va pieri pentru totdeauna.“

25 A nd Balaam riseth, and goeth, and turneth back to his place, and Balak also hath gone on his way.

Apoi Balaam s-a ridicat şi s-a întors acasă, iar Balak s-a dus la ale lui.
