1 A nd Rehoboam cometh in to Jerusalem, and assembleth the house of Judah and Benjamin, a hundred and eighty thousand chosen warriors, to fight with Israel, to bring back the kingdom to Rehoboam.

Când Roboam a ajuns la Ierusalim, a adunat Casa lui Iuda şi a lui Beniamin – o sută optzeci de mii de bărbaţi aleşi şi gata de luptă – ca să lupte împotriva lui Israel şi să aducă din nou regatul sub stăpânirea lui Roboam.

2 A nd a word of Jehovah is unto Shemaiah, a man of God, saying,

Dar Cuvântul Domnului a venit la Şemaia, omul lui Dumnezeu, zicându-i astfel:

3 ` Speak unto Rehoboam son of Solomon king of Judah, and unto all Israel in Judah and Benjamin, saying,

„Spune-i lui Roboam, fiul lui Solomon, regele lui Iuda, precum şi tuturor israeliţilor din Iuda şi din Beniamin că

4 T hus said Jehovah, Ye do not go up nor fight with your brethren, turn back each to his house, for from Me hath this thing been;' and they hear the words of Jehovah, and turn back from going against Jeroboam.

aşa vorbeşte Domnul: «Nu vă ridicaţi la luptă împotriva fraţilor voştri! Întoarceţi-vă fiecare acasă, căci de la Mine a venit lucrul acesta!»“ Ei au ascultat cuvintele Domnului, s-au întors acasă şi nu s-au mai dus împotriva lui Ieroboam. Domnia lui Roboam peste Iuda

5 A nd Rehoboam dwelleth in Jerusalem, and buildeth cities for a bulwark in Judah,

Roboam a locuit la Ierusalim şi a zidit cetăţi de apărare în Iuda:

6 y ea, he buildeth Beth-Lehem and Etam, and Tekoa,

Betleem, Etam, Tekoa,

7 a nd Beth-Zur, and Shocho, and Adullam,

Bet-Ţur, Soco, Adulam,

8 a nd Gath, and Mareshah, and Ziph,

Gat, Mareşa, Zif,

9 a nd Adoraim, and Lachish, and Azekah,

Adorayim, Lachiş, Azeka,

10 a nd Zorah, and Aijalon, and Hebron, that in Judah and in Benjamin, cities of bulwarks.

Ţora, Aialon şi Hebron. Aceste cetăţi se aflau pe teritoriul lui Iuda şi al lui Beniamin şi erau fortificate.

11 A nd he strengtheneth the bulwarks, and putteth in them leaders, and treasures of food, and oil, and wine,

El a întărit aceste fortăreţe, a numit peste ele conducători şi a pus în ele magazii cu alimente, ulei de măsline şi vin.

12 a nd in every city and city targets and spears, and strengtheneth them very greatly; and he hath Judah and Benjamin.

În fiecare din aceste cetăţi a pus scuturi şi suliţe şi le-a întărit foarte mult. Iuda şi Beniamin erau de partea lui.

13 A nd the priests, and the Levites, that in all Israel, have stationed themselves by him, out of all their border,

Preoţii şi leviţii, care se aşezaseră în tot Israelul, s-au înfăţişat înaintea lui, venind din toate regiunile.

14 f or the Levites have left their suburbs and their possession, and they come to Judah and to Jerusalem, for Jeroboam and his sons have cast them off from acting as priests to Jehovah,

Leviţii îşi părăsiseră păşunile şi proprietăţile şi veniseră în Iuda, la Ierusalim, căci Ieroboam şi fiii lui îi împiedicaseră să-şi mai împlinească slujba de preoţi ai Domnului.

15 a nd he establisheth to him priests for high places, and for goats, and for calves, that he made --

Ieroboam îşi pusese propriii lui preoţi pentru înălţimile, pentru ţapii şi pentru viţeii pe care-i făcuse.

16 a nd after them, out of all the tribes of Israel, those giving their heart to seek Jehovah, God of Israel, have come in to Jerusalem to sacrifice to Jehovah, God of their father.

Toţi aceia din seminţiile lui Israel care aveau pe inimă să-L caute pe Domnul, Dumnezeul lui Israel, i-au urmat pe leviţi la Ierusalim, ca să aducă jertfe Domnului, Dumnezeul strămoşilor lor.

17 A nd they strengthen the kingdom of Judah, and strengthen Rehoboam son of Solomon, for three years, because they walked in the way of David and Solomon for three years.

Astfel, ei au întărit regatul lui Iuda şi, vreme de trei ani, l-au susţinut pe Roboam, fiul lui Solomon, pentru că vreme de trei ani au umblat în calea lui David şi a lui Solomon.

18 A nd Rehoboam taketh to him a wife, Mahalath, child of Jerimoth son of David, Abigail daughter of Eliab, son of Jesse.

Roboam a luat-o de soţie pe Mahalat, fiica lui Ierimot, fiul lui David, şi a lui Abihail, fiica lui Eliab, fiul lui Işai.

19 A nd she beareth to him sons, Jeush, and Shamaria, and Zaham.

Ea i-a născut următorii fii: Ieuş, Şemaria şi Zaham.

20 A nd after her he hath taken Maachah daughter of Absalom, and she beareth to him Abijah, and Attai, and Ziza, and Shelomith.

Apoi el s-a căsătorit cu Maaca, nepoata lui Absalom, care i-a născut pe Abia, pe Atai, pe Ziza şi pe Şelomit.

21 A nd Rehoboam loveth Maachah daughter of Absalom above all his wives and his concubines -- for eighteen wives he hath taken, and sixty concubines -- and he begetteth twenty and eight sons, and sixty daughters.

Roboam a iubit-o pe Maaca, nepoata lui Absalom, mai mult decât pe toate soţiile şi ţiitoarele sale (el a avut optsprezece soţii şi şaizeci de ţiitoare şi i s-au născut douăzeci şi opt de fii şi şaizeci de fiice).

22 A nd Rehoboam appointeth for head Abijah son of Maachah, for leader among his brethren, for to cause him to reign.

Roboam l-a numit căpetenie pe Abia, fiul Maacăi, ca astfel să fie conducătorul fraţilor săi, căci dorea să-l facă rege.

23 A nd he hath understanding, and spreadeth out of all his sons to all lands of Judah and Benjamin, to all cities of the bulwarks, and giveth to them provision in abundance; and he asketh a multitude of wives.

El a avut pricepere şi a împrăştiat pe unii din fiii lui prin toate regiunile lui Iuda şi Beniamin, prin toate cetăţile fortificate ale acestora, unde le-a dat hrană din belşug şi le-a căutat o mulţime de soţii.
