1 T hese the words of the covenant which Jehovah hath commanded Moses to make with the sons of Israel in the land of Moab, apart from the covenant which He made with them in Horeb.

Acestea sunt cuvintele legământului pe care Domnul l-a poruncit lui Moise să-l încheie cu israeliţii la Moab, în afara legământului pe care l-a încheiat cu ei la Horeb.

2 A nd Moses calleth unto all Israel, and saith unto them, `Ye -- ye have seen all that which Jehovah hath done before your eyes in the land of Egypt, to Pharaoh, and to all his servants, and to all his land;

Moise i-a chemat pe toţi israeliţii şi le-a spus: „Aţi văzut tot ceea ce a făcut Domnul înaintea ochilor voştri, în ţara Egiptului, lui Faraon, tuturor slujitorilor lui şi întregii lui ţări.

3 t he great trials which thine eyes have seen, the signs, and those great wonders;

Cu ochii voştri aţi văzut aceste încercări, semne şi minuni.

4 a nd Jehovah hath not given to you a heart to know, and eyes to see, and ears to hear, till this day,

Dar Domnul nu v-a dat minte să înţelegeţi, ochi să vedeţi şi urechi să ascultaţi, până în ziua de astăzi.

5 a nd I cause you to go forty years in a wilderness; your garments have not been consumed from off you, and thy shoe hath not worn away from off thy foot;

Timp de patruzeci de ani cât v-am condus prin pustie, hainele nu s-au învechit pe voi şi nici încălţămintea nu s-a tocit în picioarele voastre.

6 b read ye have not eaten, and wine and strong drink ye have not drunk, so that ye know that I Jehovah your God.

Nu v-aţi hrănit cu pâine şi n-aţi băut nici vin, nici băutură tare. În acest timp aţi cunoscut că Domnul este Dumnezeul vostru.

7 ` And ye come in unto this place, and Sihon king of Heshbon -- also Og king of Bashan -- doth come out to meet us, to battle, and we smite them,

Când am ajuns în locul acesta, Sihon, regele Heşbonului, şi Og, regele Başanului, ne-au ieşit înainte ca să se lupte cu noi, dar noi i-am învins.

8 a nd take their land, and give it for an inheritance to the Reubenite, and to the Gadite, and to the half of the tribe of Manasseh;

Le-am luat ţara şi am dat-o ca moştenire rubeniţilor, gadiţilor şi unei jumătăţi din seminţia lui Manase.

9 a nd ye have kept the words of this covenant, and done them, so that ye cause all that ye do to prosper.

Să păziţi cuvintele acestui legământ şi să le împliniţi ca să prosperaţi în tot ceea ce veţi face.

10 ` Ye are standing to-day, all of you, before Jehovah your God -- your heads, your tribes, your elders, and your authorities -- every man of Israel;

Astăzi staţi în prezenţa Domnului, Dumnezeul vostru, voi toţi – căpeteniile seminţiilor voastre şi bătrânii voştri, dregătorii voştri împreună cu toţi bărbaţii lui Israel,

11 y our infants, your wives, and thy sojourner who in the midst of thy camps, from the hewer of thy wood unto the drawer of thy water --

copiii şi soţiile voastre şi străinul care este în mijlocul taberei voastre, de la cel ce vă taie lemne, până la cel ce vă scoate apă –

12 f or thy passing over into the covenant of Jehovah thy God, and into His oath which Jehovah thy God is making with thee to-day;

ca să intraţi în legământ cu Domnul, Dumnezeul vostru, legământ încheiat prin jurământ şi făcut cu voi astăzi

13 i n order to establish thee to-day to Him for a people, and He Himself is thy God, as He hath spoken to thee, and as He hath sworn to thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.

şi ca să vă facă astăzi, poporul Lui, după cum v-a promis şi a jurat strămoşilor voştri, Avraam, Isaac şi Iacov.

14 ` And not with you alone am I making this covenant and this oath;

Nu numai cu voi închei legământul acesta, încheiat prin jurământ,

15 b ut with him who is here with us, standing to-day before Jehovah our God, and with him who is not here with us to-day,

ci îl fac atât cu cei care stau astăzi aici, înaintea Domnului, Dumnezeul nostru, cât şi cu cei care nu sunt astăzi aici.

16 f or ye have known how ye dwelt in the land of Egypt, and how we passed by through the midst of the nations which ye have passed by;

Voi ştiţi cum aţi locuit în ţara Egiptului şi cum aţi trecut prin mijlocul neamurilor pe care le-aţi traversat.

17 a nd ye see their abominations, and their idols, wood and stone, silver and gold, which with them,

Aţi văzut urâciunile şi idolii lor, idoli din lemn şi din piatră, din argint şi din aur.

18 l est there be among you a man or woman, or family or tribe, whose heart is turning to-day from Jehovah our God, to go to serve the gods of those nations, lest there be in you a root fruitful of gall and wormwood:

Să nu existe printre voi nici un bărbat sau femeie, nici un clan şi nici o seminţie a căror inimă să se întoarcă astăzi de la Domnul, Dumnezeul nostru, ducându-se să slujească zeilor acestor neamuri. Să nu existe printre voi nici o rădăcină care produce otravă sau amărăciune.

19 ` And it hath been, in his hearing the words of this oath, and he hath blessed himself in his heart, saying, I have peace, though in the stubbornness of my heart I go on, in order to end the fulness with the thirst.

Dacă cineva care aude cuvintele acestui jurământ, invocă o binecuvântare asupra lui însuşi, zicând în inima lui: «Voi avea pace, chiar dacă mi-aş urma pornirile minţii mele!», fapta aceasta va aduce dezastru, atât peste pământul fertil, cât şi peste cel uscat,

20 J ehovah is not willing to be propitious to him, for then doth the anger of Jehovah smoke, also His zeal, against that man, and lain down on him hath all the oath which is written in this book, and Jehovah hath blotted out his name from under the heavens,

iar pe acela Domnul nu va mai dori să-l ierte. Mânia şi gelozia Domnului se va aprinde împotriva lui. Toate blestemele scrise în Cartea aceasta vor veni peste el şi Domnul îi va şterge numele de sub cer.

21 a nd Jehovah hath separated him for evil, out of all the tribes of Israel, according to all the oaths of the covenant which is written in this book of the law.

El îl va despărţi de toate seminţiile lui Israel ca să-l nenorocească potrivit cu tot ce este scris în această Carte a Legii.

22 ` And the latter generation of your sons who rise after you, and the stranger who cometh in from a land afar off, have said when they have seen the strokes of that land, and its sicknesses which Jehovah hath sent into it, --

Generaţiile următoare, copiii care vor veni după voi şi străinul care va veni dintr-o ţară îndepărtată, vor vedea nenorocirile care au fost în ţara aceasta şi urgiile cu care Domnul v-a îndurerat.

23 ( brimstone and salt is the whole land burnt, it is not sown, nor doth it shoot up, nor doth there go up on it any herb, like the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboim, which Jehovah overturned in His anger, and in His fury,) --

Peste tot va fi pucioasă şi sare; toată ţara va fi arsă; nimic nu se va semăna, nimic nu va încolţi şi nici o plantă nu va creşte. Va fi la fel ca la distrugerea Sodomei, Gomorei, Admei şi Ţeboimului, pe care Domnul le-a distrus în mânia şi urgia Lui. Toate neamurile vor întreba:

24 y ea, all the nations have said, Wherefore hath Jehovah done thus to this land? what the heat of this great anger?

– De ce a făcut Domnul astfel ţării acesteia? De ce s-a aprins cu o mânie atât de mare? Şi li se va răspunde:

25 ` And they have said, Because that they have forsaken the covenant of Jehovah, God of their fathers, which He made with them in His bringing them out of the land of Egypt,

– Fiindcă au părăsit legământul Domnului, Dumnezeul strămoşilor lor, pe care l-a încheiat cu ei când i-a scos din ţara Egiptului.

26 a nd they go and serve other gods, and bow themselves to them -- gods which they have not known, and which He hath not apportioned to them;

Ei s-au depărtat, au slujit şi s-au închinat altor dumnezei, zei pe care nu-i cunoşteau şi pe care nu li-i dăduse El.

27 a nd the anger of Jehovah burneth against that land, to bring in on it all the reviling that is written in this book,

De aceea Domnul s-a aprins de mânie împotriva acestei ţări, astfel că a adus peste ei toate blestemele scrise în Cartea aceasta.

28 a nd Jehovah doth pluck them from off their ground in anger, and in fury, and in great wrath, and doth cast them unto another land, as this day.

Domnul i-a smuls din ţara lor cu mânie, cu furie şi cu mare înverşunare şi i-a aruncat într-o altă ţară, cum se vede astăzi.

29 ` The things hidden to Jehovah our God, and the things revealed to us and to our sons -- to the age, to do all the words of this law.

Lucrurile ascunse sunt ale Domnului, Dumnezeul nostru, iar lucrurile descoperite sunt ale noastre şi ale urmaşilor noştri pentru totdeauna, ca să împlinim toate cuvintele acestei Legi.
