1 A nd Samson goeth down to Timnath, and seeth a woman in Timnath of the daughters of the Philistines,

Sansone scese a Timnah e là vide una donna tra le figlie dei Filistei.

2 a nd cometh up and declareth to his father, and to his mother, and saith, `A woman I have seen in Timnath, of the daughters of the Philistines; and now, take her for me for a wife.'

Tornato a casa, ne parlò a suo padre e a sua madre, dicendo: «Ho veduto a Timnah una donna tra le figlie dei Filistei; or dunque prendetemela come moglie».

3 A nd his father saith to him -- also his mother, `Is there not among the daughters of thy brethren, and among all my people, a woman, that thou art going to take a woman from the uncircumcised Philistines?' and Samson saith unto his father, `Take her for me, for she is right in mine eyes.'

Suo padre e sua madre gli dissero: «Non vi è forse alcuna donna tra le figlie dei tuoi fratelli in tutto il nostro popolo perché tu vada a prenderti una moglie tra i Filistei incirconcisi?». Ma Sansone rispose a suo padre: «Prendimi quella, perché mi piace».

4 A nd his father and his mother have not known that from Jehovah it, that a meeting he is seeking of the Philistines; and at that time the Philistines are ruling over Israel.

Or suo padre e sua madre non sapevano che questo veniva dall'Eterno, e che Sansone cercava un'occasione contro i Filistei. In quel tempo, i Filistei dominavano Israele.

5 A nd Samson goeth down -- also his father and his mother, to Timnath, and they come unto the vineyards of Timnath, and lo, a lion's whelp roareth at meeting him,

Poi Sansone scese con suo padre e con sua madre a Timnah; come furono giunti alle vigne di Timnah, ecco un leoncello venirgli incontro ruggendo.

6 a nd the Spirit of Jehovah prospereth over him, and he rendeth it as the rending of a kid, and there is nothing in his hand, and he hath not declared to his father and to his mother that which he hath done.

Allora lo Spirito dell'Eterno venne su di lui con potenza ed egli, senza avere niente in mano, squarciò il leone, come uno squarcerebbe un capretto; ma non disse nulla a suo padre né a sua madre di ciò che aveva fatto.

7 A nd he goeth down and speaketh to the woman, and she is right in the eyes of Samson;

Poi scese e parlò alla donna, ed essa piacque a Sansone.

8 a nd he turneth back after days to take her, and turneth aside to see the carcase of the lion, and lo, a company of bees in the body of the lion -- and honey.

Qualche giorno dopo egli tornò per prenderla e uscì di strada per vedere la carcassa del leone; ed ecco, nel corpo del leone c'era uno sciame d'api e del miele.

9 A nd he taketh it down on to his hands, and goeth on, going and eating; and he goeth unto his father, and unto his mother, and giveth to them, and they eat, and he hath not declared to them that from the body of the lion he took down the honey.

Egli ne prese un po' in mano e si mise a mangiarlo mentre camminava; quando giunse da suo padre e da sua madre, ne diede loro ed essi ne mangiarono; ma non disse loro che aveva preso il miele dal corpo del leone.

10 A nd his father goeth down unto the woman, and Samson maketh there a banquet, for so the young men do;

Suo padre quindi scese da quella donna, e là Sansone fece un convito, perché così usavano fare i giovani.

11 a nd it cometh to pass when they see him, that they take thirty companions, and they are with him.

Quando la gente del posto lo vide, portò trenta compagni perché stessero con lui.

12 A nd Samson saith to them, `Let me, I pray you, put forth to you a riddle; if ye certainly declare it to me the seven days of the banquet, and have found out, then I have given to you thirty linen shirts, and thirty changes of garments;

Sansone disse loro: «lo vi proporrò un indovinello; se voi riuscite a trovarne la spiegazione e a farmela sapere entro i sette giorni del convito, vi darò trenta tuniche e trenta cambi di vesti;

13 a nd if ye are not able to declare to me, then ye have given to me thirty linen shirts, and thirty changes of garments.' And they say to him, `Put forth thy riddle, and we hear it!'

ma se non me lo potete spiegare, darete trenta tuniche e trenta cambi di vesti a me».

14 A nd he saith to them: `Out of the eater came forth meat, And out of the strong came forth sweetness;' and they were not able to declare the riddle three days.

Essi gli risposero: «Proponi il tuo indovinello, affinché lo udiamo». Egli disse loro: «Dal divoratore è uscito del cibo, e dal forte è uscito del dolce». Per tre giorni quelli non riuscirono a spiegare l'indovinello.

15 A nd it cometh to pass, on the seventh day, that they say to Samson's wife, `Entice thy husband, that he declare to us the riddle, lest we burn thee and the house of thy father with fire; to possess us have ye called for us? is it not?'

Il settimo giorno dissero alla moglie di Sansone: «Persuadi tuo marito a spiegarci l'indovinello; altrimenti daremo fuoco a te e alla casa di tuo padre. Ci avete invitati qui per spogliarci? Non è forse così?».

16 A nd Samson's wife weepeth for it, and saith, `Thou hast only hated me, and hast not loved me; the riddle thou hast put forth to the sons of my people -- and to me thou hast not declared it;' and he saith to her, `Lo, to my father and to my mother I have not declared -- and to thee I declare!'

La moglie di Sansone pianse davanti a lui e gli disse: «Tu mi porti solo odio e non mi ami; tu hai proposto un indovinello ai figli del mio popolo, ma non l'hai spiegato a me». Allora egli le disse: «Ecco, non l'ho spiegato neppure a mio padre e a mia madre, perché dovrei spiegarlo a te?».

17 A nd she weepeth for it the seven days which their banquet hath been, and it cometh to pass on the seventh day that he declareth to her, for she hath distressed him; and she declareth the riddle to the sons of her people.

Ella pianse davanti a lui, durante i sette giorni del convito. Così il settimo giorno Sansone glielo spiegò, perché lo importunava; poi essa spiegò l'indovinello ai figli del suo popolo.

18 A nd the men of the city say to him on the seventh day, before the sun goeth in: -- `What sweeter than honey? And what stronger than a lion?' And he saith to them: `Unless ye had ploughed with my heifer, Ye had not found out my riddle.'

Gli uomini della città, il settimo giorno, prima che tramontasse il giorno, dissero a Sansone: «Cosa c'è di piú dolce del miele? Cosa c'è di piú forte del leone?». Ed egli rispose loro: «Se non aveste arato con la mia giovenca, non avreste risolto il mio indovinello».

19 A nd the Spirit of Jehovah prospereth over him, and he goeth down to Ashkelon, and smiteth of them thirty men, and taketh their armour, and giveth the changes to those declaring the riddle; and his anger burneth, and he goeth up to the house of his father;

Allora lo Spirito dell'Eterno venne su di lui con potenza, ed egli scese ad Ashkelon, uccise trenta uomini dei loro, prese le loro spoglie e diede i cambi di vesti a quelli che avevano spiegato l'indovinello. Così la sua ira si accese; poi risalì a casa di suo padre.

20 a nd Samson's wife becometh his companion's, who his friend.

Ma la moglie di Sansone fu data al suo compagno che era stato il suo miglior amico.
