1 A nd David hath passed on a little from the top, and lo, Ziba, servant of Mephibosheth -- to meet him, and a couple of asses saddled, and upon them two hundred loaves, and a hundred bunches of raisins, and a hundred summer-fruit, and a bottle of wine.

А коли Давид пройшов трохи з верхів'я, аж ось Ціва, Мефівошетів слуга назустріч йому, та пара в'ючених ослів, а на них двісті хлібів, і сто в'язок родзинок, і сто літніх плодів, та бурдюк вина.

2 A nd the king saith unto Ziba, `What -- these to thee?' and Ziba saith, `The asses for the household of the king to ride on, and the bread and the summer-fruit for the young men to eat, and the wine for the wearied to drink in the wilderness.'

І сказав цар до Ціви: Що це тобі? А Ціва відказав: Ці осли для царського дому на їзду, а хліб та літні плоди на їду юнакам, а вино на пиття змученому в пустині.

3 A nd the king saith, `And where the son of thy lord?' and Ziba saith unto the king, `Lo, he is abiding in Jerusalem, for he said, To-day do the house of Israel give back to me the kingdom of my father.'

І сказав цар: А де син твого пана? А Ціва відказав цареві: Он він сидить в Єрусалимі, бо сказав: Сьогодні Ізраїлів дім поверне мені царство мого батька.

4 A nd the king saith to Ziba, `Lo, thine all that Mephibosheth hath;' and Ziba saith, `I have bowed myself -- I find grace in thine eyes, my lord, O king.'

І сказав цар до Ціви: Ось тобі все, що в Мефівошета. А Ціва відказав, уклонившись: Нехай я знайду ласку в очах твоїх, пане мій царю.

5 A nd king David hath come in unto Bahurim, and lo, thence a man is coming out, of the family of the house of Saul, and his name Shimei, son of Gera, he cometh out, coming out and reviling;

І прийшов цар Давид до Бахуріму, аж ось виходить ізвідти чоловік з роду Саулового дому, а ім'я йому Шім'ї, син Ґерин. Він ішов і все проклинав.

6 a nd he stoneth David with stones, and all the servants of king David, and all the people, and all the mighty men on his right and on his left.

І він кидав камінням на Давида та на всіх рабів царя Давида, хоч увесь народ та всі лицарі були на правиці його та на лівиці його.

7 A nd thus said Shimei in his reviling, `Go out, go out, O man of blood, and man of worthlessness!

І отак говорив Шім'ї в прокльоні своїм: Іди, іди геть, кривавий переступнику та чоловіче негідний!

8 J ehovah hath turned back on thee all the blood of the house of Saul, in whose stead thou hast reigned, and Jehovah doth give the kingdom in to the hand of Absalom thy son; and lo, thou in thine evil, for a man of blood thou.'

Господь обернув на тебе всю кров Саулового дому, що зацарював ти замість нього. І віддав Господь царство в руку сина твого Авесалома, а ти ось у своєму злі, бо ти кривавий переступник!...

9 A nd Abishai son of Zeruiah saith unto the king, `Why doth this dead dog revile my lord the king? let me pass over, I pray thee, and I turn aside his head.'

І сказав до царя Авішай, син Церуї: Нащо проклинає цей мертвий пес мого пана царя? Піду я, і зітну йому голову!

10 A nd the king saith, `What -- to me and to you, O sons of Zeruiah? for -- let him revile; even because Jehovah hath said to him, Revile David; and who saith, Wherefore hast Thou done so?'

А цар відказав: Що обходить це мене та вас, сини Церуїні? Що він проклинає, то це Господь йому сказав: Прокляни Давида! А хто скаже: Нащо ти так зробив?

11 A nd David saith unto Abishai, and unto all his servants, `Lo, my son who came out of my bowels is seeking my life, and also surely now the Benjamite; leave him alone, and let him revile, for Jehovah hath said to him;

І сказав Давид до Авішая та до всіх своїх слуг: Ось син мій, що вийшов з утроби моєї, шукає моєї душі, а що вже говорити про цього веніяминівця! Дайте йому спокій, і нехай проклинає, бо так наказав йому зробити Господь!

12 i t may be Jehovah doth look on mine affliction, and Jehovah hath turned back to me good for his reviling this day.'

Може зглянеться Господь над моєю бідою, і поверне мені цього дня добром замість його прокляття...

13 A nd David goeth with his men in the way, and Shimei is going at the side of the hill over-against him, going on, and he revileth, and stoneth with stones over-against him, and hath dusted with dust.

І йшов Давид та люди його дорогою, а Шім'ї йшов узбіччям гори навпроти нього. І він ішов та все проклинав, і кидав камінням на нього, та порошив порохом.

14 A nd the king cometh in, and all the people who with him, wearied, and they are refreshed there.

І прийшов цар та ввесь народ, що був із ним, змучені, і відідхнули там.

15 A nd Absalom and all the people, the men of Israel, have come in to Jerusalem, and Ahithophel with him,

А Авесалом та ввесь ізраїльський народ увійшли до Єрусалиму, а з ними Ахітофел.

16 a nd it cometh to pass, when Hushai the Archite, David's friend, hath come unto Absalom, that Hushai saith unto Absalom, `Let the king live! let the king live!'

І сталося, як прийшов аркеянин Хушай, Давидів товариш, до Авесалома, то сказав Хушай до Авесалома: Нехай живе цар, нехай живе цар!

17 A nd Absalom saith unto Hushai, `This thy kindness with thy friend! why hast thou not gone with thy friend?'

І сказав Авесалом до Хушая: Це така ласка твоя з приятелем твоїм? Чому не пішов ти з своїм приятелем?

18 A nd Hushai saith unto Absalom, `Nay, for he whom Jehovah hath chosen, and this people, even all the men of Israel, his I am, and with him I abide;

І сказав Хушай до Авесалома: Ні, бо кого вибрав Господь та цей народ, та кожен Ізраїлів муж, то я буду його, і з ним позостануся.

19 a nd secondly, for whom do I labour? is it not before his son? as I served before thy father so am I before thee.'

А подруге, кому я буду служити? Чи ж не синові його? Як служив я батькові твоєму, так буду й тобі.

20 A nd Absalom saith unto Ahithophel, `Give for you counsel what we do.'

І сказав Авесалом до Ахітофела: Дайте пораду, що маємо робити.

21 A nd Ahithophel saith unto Absalom, `Go in unto the concubines of thy father, whom he left to keep the house, and all Israel hath heard that thou hast been abhorred by thy father, and the hands of all who with thee have been strong.'

І сказав Ахітофел до Авесалома: Прийди до наложниць свого батька, яких він позоставив стерегти дім. І коли почує ввесь Ізраїль, що став ти зненавиджений у свого батька, то зміцняться руки всім, хто з тобою.

22 A nd they spread out for Absalom the tent on the roof, and Absalom goeth in unto the concubines of his father before the eyes of all Israel.

І розтягли Авесаломові намета на даху, і Авесалом прийшов до наложниць батька свого на очах усього Ізраїля.

23 A nd the counsel of Ahithophel which he counselled in those days as one inquireth at the word of God; so all the counsel of Ahithophel both to David and to Absalom.

А Ахітофелова порада, яку він радив тими днями, була така певна, як питати про Боже слово, така була Ахітофелова порада і для Давида, і для Авесалома!
