1 A nd Ahab hath seventy sons in Samaria, and Jehu writeth letters, and sendeth to Samaria, unto the heads of Jezreel, the elders, and unto the supporters of Ahab, saying,

А Ахав мав сімдесят синів у Самарії. І понаписував Єгу листи, і порозсилав до Самарії, до провідників Їзреелу, до старших і до виховників Ахавових синів, говорячи:

2 ` And now, at the coming in of this letter unto you, and with you sons of your lord, and with you the chariots and the horses, and a fenced city, and the armour,

Як тільки прийде лист цей до вас, а з вами сини вашого пана, і з вами колесниці, і коні, і твердині, і зброя,

3 a nd ye have seen the best and the uprightest of the sons of your lord, and have set on the throne of his father, and fight ye for the house of your lord.'

то виберіть найліпшого та найвідповіднішого з синів вашого пана, і посадіть його на трон вашого батька, та й воюйте за дім вашого пана!

4 A nd they fear very greatly, and say, `Lo, the two kings have not stood before him, and how do we stand -- we?'

А вони дуже-дуже налякалися й сказали: Ось два царі не встояли перед ним, якже встоїмо ми?

5 A nd he who over the house, and he who over the city, and the elders, and the supporters, send unto Jehu, saying, `Thy servants we, and all that thou sayest unto us we do; we do not make any one king -- that which good in thine eyes do.'

І послали ті, що були над домом та над тим містом, і старші, і виховники до Єгу, говорячи: Ми раби твої, і зробимо все, що ти нам скажеш. Та ми не настановимо царем нікого, що добре в очах твоїх, те роби!

6 A nd he writeth unto them a letter a second time, saying, `If ye for me, and to my voice are hearkening, take the heads of the men -- the sons of your lord, and come unto me about this time to-morrow, to Jezreel;' and the sons of the king seventy men, with the great ones of the city those bringing them up.

А він написав до них другого листа, пишучи: Якщо ви мої, і слухняні моєму голосові, візьміть голови мужів, синів вашого пана, і прийдіть до мене цього часу взавтра до Їзреелу (а царських синів було сімдесят чоловіка, при міських вельможах, що виховали їх).

7 A nd it cometh to pass, at the coming in of the letter unto them, that they take the sons of the king, and slaughter seventy men, and put their heads in baskets, and send unto him to Jezreel,

І сталося, як прийшов той лист до них, то побрали вони царських синів, та й позабивали сімдесят чоловіка. І поскладали вони їхні голови в кошики, та й послали до нього в Їзреел...

8 a nd the messenger cometh in, and declareth to him, saying, `They have brought in the heads of the sons of the king,' and he saith, `Make them two heaps at the opening of the gate till the morning.'

І прибув посол, і доніс йому, кажучи: Принесли голови царських синів! А він сказав: Покладіть їх на дві купі при вході до брами до ранку.

9 A nd it cometh to pass in the morning, that he goeth out, and standeth, and saith unto all the people, `Righteous are ye; lo, I have conspired against my lord, and slay him -- and who smote all these?

І сталося вранці, і він вийшов і став, і сказав до всього народу: Ви невинні. Я вчинив змову на свого пана й убив його. А хто повбивав усіх цих?

10 K now ye now, that nothing doth fall of the word of Jehovah to the earth that Jehovah spake against the house of Ahab, and Jehovah hath done that which He spake by the hand of His servant Elijah.'

Знайте ж тепер, що з Господнього слова не проминеться нічого, що Господь говорив на Ахавів дім, і Господь зробив те, що говорив був через раба Свого Іллю.

11 A nd Jehu smiteth all those left to the house of Ahab in Jezreel, and all his great men, and his acquaintances, and his priests, till he hath not left to him a remnant.

І Єгу повбивав усіх позосталих з Ахавого дому в Їзреелі, і всіх вельмож його, і знайомих його, і священиків його, так, що не позоставив йому і врятованого!

12 A nd he riseth, and cometh in and goeth to Samaria; he at the shepherds' shearing-house in the way,

І встав він і відійшов, і пішов до Самарії. А коли він був на дорозі при Бет-Екед-Гароімі,

13 a nd Jehu hath found the brethren of Ahaziah king of Judah, and saith, `Who ye?' and they say, `Brethren of Ahaziah we, and we go down to salute the sons of the king, and the sons of the mistress.'

то спіткав братів Ахазії, Юдиного царя, і сказав: Хто ви? А ті відказали: Ми Ахазієві брати, а йдемо запитати про гаразд царевих синів та синів цариці!

14 A nd he saith, `Catch them alive;' and they catch them alive, and slaughter them at the pit of the shearing-house, forty and two men, and he hath not left a man of them.

А він сказав: Схопіть їх живих! І схопили їх живих, і позабивали їх до ями Бет-Екеду, сорок і два чоловіка, і він не позоставив ані одного з них!

15 A nd he goeth thence, and findeth Jehonadab son of Rechab -- to meet him, and blesseth him, and saith unto him, `Is thy heart right, as my heart with thy heart?' and Jehonadab saith, `It is;' -- `Then it is; give thy hand;' and he giveth his hand, and he causeth him to come up into him into the chariot,

І пішов він ізвідти, і спіткав Єгонадава, Рехавового сина, що йшов навпроти нього, і привітав його та й сказав до нього: Чи твоє серце щире до мене, як моє серце до тебе? А Єгонадав відказав: Так! Дай же свою руку! І той дав руку свою, і підняв його до себе до колесниці,

16 a nd saith, `Come with me, and look on my zeal for Jehovah;' and they cause him to ride in his chariot.

і сказав: Іди ж зо мною, і приглянься до моєї запопадливости для Господа! І посадили його в колесницю його.

17 A nd he cometh in to Samaria, and smiteth all those left to Ahab in Samaria, till his destroying him, according to the word of Jehovah that He spake unto Elisha.

І прибув він до Самарії, і повбивав усіх позосталих в Ахава в Самарії, і вибив аж до кінця його, за словом Господа, що говорив до був Іллі.

18 A nd Jehu gathereth the whole of the people, and saith unto them, `Ahab served Baal a little -- Jehu doth serve him much:

І зібрав Єгу ввесь народ і сказав до них: Ахав мало служив Ваалові, Єгу служитиме йому більше!

19 a nd now, all the prophets of Baal, all his servants, and all his priests, call ye unto me; let not a man be lacking, for a great sacrifice I have for Baal; every one who is lacking -- he doth not live;' and Jehu hath done in subtilty, in order to destroy the servants of Baal.

А тепер покличте до мене всіх пророків Ваала, усіх, хто служить йому, та всіх священиків. Нехай нікого не бракуватиме, бо в мене велика жертва для Ваала. Кожен, хто буде відсутній, не буде живий! А Єгу зробив це підступом, щоб вигубити тих, хто служить Ваалові.

20 A nd Jehu saith, `Sanctify a restraint for Baal;' and they proclaim.

І сказав Єгу: Оголосіть святочні збори для Ваала! І вони оголосили.

21 A nd Jehu sendeth into all Israel, and all the servants of Baal come in, and there hath not been left a man who hath not come in; and they come in to the house of Baal, and the house of Baal is full -- mouth to mouth.

І послав Єгу по всьому Ізраїлю. І посходилися всі, хто служить Ваалові, і не позостався ніхто, хто не прийшов би. І прибули вони до Ваалового дому, і переповнився Ваалів дім від входу до входу.

22 A nd he saith to him who over the wardrobe, `Bring out clothing to all servants of Baal;' and he bringeth out to them the clothing.

І сказав він тому, хто над царською шатнею: Винеси одежу для всіх тих, хто служить Ваалові. І той виніс їм ту одежу.

23 A nd Jehu goeth in, and Jehonadab son of Rechab, to the house of Baal, and saith to the servants of Baal, `Search and see, lest there be here with you of the servants of Jehovah -- but, the servants of Baal by themselves.'

І ввійшов Єгу та Єгонадав, Рехавів син, до Ваалового дому, і сказав до Ваалових служителів: Пошукайте й подивіться, щоб не був тут із вами ніхто з Господніх слуг, а тільки самі ті, хто служить Ваалові.

24 A nd they come in to make sacrifices and burnt-offerings, and Jehu hath set for himself in an out-place eighty men, and saith, `The man who letteth escape of the men whom I am bringing in unto your hand -- his soul for his soul.'

І ввійшли вони, щоб принести жертви та цілопалення. А Єгу поставив собі назовні вісімдесят чоловіка й сказав: Кожен, у кого втече хто з тих людей, що я ввів на ваші руки, життя його буде за життя того!

25 A nd it cometh to pass at his finishing to make the burnt-offering, that Jehu saith to the runners, and to the captains, `Go in, smite them, let none come out;' and they smite them by the mouth of the sword, and the runners and the captains cast out; and they go unto the city, to the house of Baal,

І сталося, як скінчив він приряджувати цілопалення, то Єгу сказав до бігунів та до старшин: Увійдіть, повбивайте їх, нехай ніхто не вийде!... І повбивали їх вістрям меча, і поскидали їх ті бігуни та старшини. Потому пішли до міста Ваалового дому.

26 a nd bring out the standing-pillars of the house of Baal, and burn them,

І повиносили вони бовванів Ваалового дому, і попалили те.

27 a nd break down the standing-pillar of Baal, and break down the house of Baal, and appoint it for a draught-house unto this day.

І розбили вони Ваалового боввана, і розбили Ваалів дім, та й зробили з нього нечисте місце, і так є аж до сьогодні.

28 A nd Jehu destroyeth Baal out of Israel,

І вигубив Єгу Ваала з Ізраїля.

29 o nly -- the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, that he caused Israel to sin, Jehu hath not turned aside from after them -- the calves of gold that at Beth-El, and in Dan.

Тільки не відступив він від гріхів Єровоама, Неватового сина, що вводив у гріх Ізраїля, від золотих тельців, що в Бет-Елі та що в Дані.

30 A nd Jehovah saith unto Jehu, `Because that thou hast done well, to do that which right in Mine eyes -- according to all that in My heart thou hast done to the house of Ahab -- the sons of the fourth do sit for thee on the throne of Israel.'

І сказав Господь до Єгу: Тому, що ти добре зробив угодне в очах Моїх, зробив Ахавовому домові все, що було на серці Моєму, сидітимуть сини твої на Ізраїлевому троні аж до четвертого покоління.

31 A nd Jehu hath not taken heed to walk in the law of Jehovah, God of Israel, with all his heart, he hath not turned aside from the sins of Jeroboam, that he caused Israel to sin.

Та Єгу не пильнував ходити за Законом Господа, Бога Ізраїля, усім своїм серцем, не відступив від гріхів Єровоама, що вводив у гріх Ізраїля.

32 I n those days hath Jehovah begun to cut off in Israel, and Hazael smiteth them in all the border of Israel,

За тих днів розпочав Господь відрубувати від Ізраїля частини, і побив їх Газаїл в усій Ізраїлевій країні,

33 f rom the Jordan, at the sun-rising, the whole land of Gilead, of the Gadite, and the Reubenite, and the Manassahite (from Aroer, that by the brook Arnon), even Gilead and Bashan.

від Йордану на схід сонця, увесь край Ґілеаду, Ґадів, Рувимів та Манасіїн, від Ароеру, що над потоком Арнон, і Ґілеад та Башан.

34 A nd the rest of the matters of Jehu, and all that he did, and all his might, are they not written on the book of the Chronicles of the kings of Israel?

А решта діл Єгу, і все, що він зробив, і вся лицарськість його, ось вони написані в Книзі Хроніки Ізраїлевих царів.

35 A nd Jehu lieth with his fathers, and they bury him in Samaria, and reign doth Jehoahaz his son in his stead.

І спочив Єгу зо своїми батьками, і поховали його в Самарії, а замість нього зацарював син його Єгоахаз.

36 A nd the days that Jehu hath reigned over Israel twenty and eight years, in Samaria.

А дні, що царював Єгу над Ізраїлем у Самарії, були двадцять і вісім літ.
