1 A nd God saith unto Jacob, `Rise, go up to Bethel, and dwell there, and make there an altar to God, who appeared unto thee in thy fleeing from the face of Esau thy brother.'

І сказав Бог до Якова: Уставай, вийди до Бет-Елу, і там осядься, і зроби там жертівника Богові, що явився тобі, як ти втікав був перед Ісавом, братом своїм.

2 A nd Jacob saith unto his household, and unto all who with him, `Turn aside the gods of the stranger which in your midst, and cleanse yourselves, and change your garments;

І сказав Яків до дому свого, до всіх, хто був із ним: Усуньте чужинних богів, які є серед вас, і очистьтеся, і змініть свою одіж.

3 a nd we rise, and go up to Bethel, and I make there an altar to God, who is answering me in the day of my distress, and is with me in the way that I have gone.'

І встаньмо, і підім до Бет-Елу, і зроблю я там жертівника Богові, що відповів мені в день мого утиску, і був зо мною в дорозі, якою ходив я.

4 A nd they give unto Jacob all the gods of the stranger that in their hand, and the rings that in their ears, and Jacob hideth them under the oak which by Shechem;

І вони віддали Якову всіх чужинних богів, що були в їх руках, і сережки, що в їхніх ушах, а Яків сховав їх під дубом, що перед Сихемом.

5 a nd they journey, and the terror of God is on the cities which round about them, and they have not pursued after the sons of Jacob.

І вирушили вони. І великий жах обгорнув ті міста, що навколо них, і вони не гналися за синами Якова.

6 A nd Jacob cometh in to Luz which in the land of Canaan (it Bethel), he and all the people who with him,

І прибув Яків до Лузу, що в землі ханаанській, цебто до Бет-Елу, він і ввесь народ, що був з ним.

7 a nd he buildeth there an altar, and proclaimeth at the place the God of Bethel: for there had God been revealed unto him, in his fleeing from the face of his brother.

І збудував він там жертівника, та й назвав те місце: Ел Бет-Ел, бо там явився йому Бог, коли він утікав перед своїм братом.

8 A nd Deborah, Rebekah's nurse, dieth, and she is buried at the lower part of Bethel, under the oak, and he calleth its name `Oak of weeping.'

І вмерла Девора, мамка Ревеки, і була похована нижче Бет-Елу під дубом, а він назвав ім'я йому: Аллон-Бахут.

9 A nd God appeareth unto Jacob again, in his coming from Padan-Aram, and blesseth him;

І ще явився Бог до Якова, коли він прийшов був із Падану арамейського, і поблагословив його.

10 a nd God saith to him, `Thy name Jacob: thy name is no more called Jacob, but Israel is thy name;' and He calleth his name Israel.

І сказав йому Бог: Ім'я твоє Яків. Не буде вже кликатися ім'я твоє Яків, але Ізраїль буде ім'я твоє. І назвав ім'я йому: Ізраїль.

11 A nd God saith to him, `I God Almighty; be fruitful and multiply, a nation and an assembly of nations is from thee, and kings from thy loins go out;

І сказав йому Бог: Я Бог Всемогутній! Плодися й розмножуйся, народ і громада народів буде з тебе, і царі вийдуть із стегон твоїх.

12 a nd the land which I have given to Abraham and to Isaac -- to thee I give it, yea to thy seed after thee I give the land.'

А той Край, що я дав його Авраамові та Ісакові, дам його тобі, і нащадку твоєму по тобі дам Я той Край.

13 A nd God goeth up from him, in the place where He hath spoken with him.

І вознісся Бог з-понад нього в місці, де з ним говорив.

14 A nd Jacob setteth up a standing pillar in the place where He hath spoken with him, a standing pillar of stone, and he poureth on it an oblation, and he poureth on it oil;

І поставив Яків пам'ятника на тому місці, де Він говорив з ним, пам'ятника кам'яного, і вилив на нього винне лиття, і полив його оливою.

15 a nd Jacob calleth the name of the place where God spake with him Bethel.

І назвав Яків ім'я місцю, що там говорив із ним Бог: Бет-Ел.

16 A nd they journey from Bethel, and there is yet a kibrath of land before entering Ephratha, and Rachel beareth, and is sharply pained in her bearing;

І він рушив із Бет-Елу. І була ще ківра землі до Ефрати, а Рахіль породила, і були важкі її пологи.

17 a nd it cometh to pass, in her being sharply pained in her bearing, that the midwife saith to her, `Fear not, for this also a son for thee.'

І сталося, коли важкі були її пологи, то сказала їй баба-сповитуха: Не бійся, бо й це тобі син.

18 A nd it cometh to pass in the going out of her soul (for she died), that she calleth his name Ben-Oni; and his father called him Benjamin;

І сталося, коли виходила душа її, бо вмирала вона, то назвала ім'я йому: Бен-Оні, а його батько назвав його: Веніямин.

19 a nd Rachel dieth, and is buried in the way to Ephratha, which Bethlehem,

І вмерла Рахіль, і була похована на дорозі до Ефрати, це є Віфлеєм.

20 a nd Jacob setteth up a standing pillar over her grave; which the standing pillar of Rachel's grave unto this day.

І поставив Яків пам'ятника на гробі її, це надгробний пам'ятник Рахілі аж до сьогодні.

21 A nd Israel journeyeth, and stretcheth out his tent beyond the tower of Edar;

І рушив Ізраїль, і розтягнув намета свого далі до Міґдал-Едеру.

22 a nd it cometh to pass in Israel's dwelling in that land, that Reuben goeth, and lieth with Bilhah his father's concubine; and Israel heareth.

І сталося, коли Ізраїль перебував у тім краї, то Рувим пішов і ліг із Білгою, наложницею батька свого. І почув Ізраїль, і було це злим йому. А в Якова було дванадцятеро синів.

23 A nd the sons of Jacob are twelve. Sons of Leah: Jacob's first-born Reuben, and Simeon, and Levi, and Judah, and Issachar, and Zebulun.

Сини Ліїні: перворідний Якова Рувим, і Симеон, і Левій, і Юда, і Іссахар, і Завулон.

24 S ons of Rachel: Joseph and Benjamin.

Сини Рахілині: Йосип і Веніямин.

25 A nd sons of Bilhah, Rachel's maid-servant: Dan and Naphtali.

А сини Білги, невільниці Рахілиної: Дан і Нефталим.

26 A nd sons of Zilpah, Leah's maid-servant: Gad and Asher. These sons of Jacob, who have been born to him in Padan-Aram.

А сини Зілпи, невільниці Ліїної: Ґад і Асир. Оце сини Якова, що йому народжено в Падані арамейському.

27 A nd Jacob cometh unto Isaac his father, at Mamre, the city of Arba (which Hebron), where Abraham and Isaac have sojourned.

І прибув Яків до Ісака, свого батька, до Мамре, до Кир'ят-Арби, цебто Хеврону, що там жив Авраам та Ісак.

28 A nd the days of Isaac are a hundred and eighty years,

І були Ісакові дні сто літ і вісімдесят літ.

29 a nd Isaac expireth, and dieth, and is gathered unto his people, aged and satisfied with days; and bury him do Esau and Jacob his sons.

І впокоївся Ісак та й помер, і прилучився до своєї рідні, старий та нажившись. І поховали його Ісав та Яків, сини його.
