1 T hen come unto Jesus do they from Jerusalem -- scribes and Pharisees -- saying,

Тоді до Ісуса прийшли фарисеї та книжники з Єрусалиму й сказали:

2 ` Wherefore do thy disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? for they do not wash their hands when they may eat bread.'

Чого Твої учні ламають передання старших? Бо не миють вони своїх рук, коли хліб споживають.

3 A nd he answering said to them, `Wherefore also do ye transgress the command of God because of your tradition?

А Він відповів і промовив до них: А чого й ви порушуєте Божу заповідь ради передання вашого?

4 f or God did command, saying, Honour thy father and mother; and, He who is speaking evil of father or mother -- let him die the death;

Бо Бог заповів: Шануй батька та матір, та: Хто злорічить на батька чи матір, хай смертю помре.

5 b ut ye say, Whoever may say to father or mother, An offering whatever thou mayest be profited by me; --

А ви кажете: Коли скаже хто батьку чи матері: Те, чим би ви скористатись від мене хотіли, то дар Богові,

6 a nd he may not honour his father or his mother, and ye did set aside the command of God because of your tradition.

то може вже й не шанувати той батька свого або матір свою. Так ви ради передання вашого знівечили Боже Слово.

7 ` Hypocrites, well did Isaiah prophesy of you, saying,

Лицеміри! Про вас добре Ісая пророкував був, говорячи:

8 T his people doth draw nigh to Me with their mouth, and with the lips it doth honour Me, but their heart is far off from Me;

Оці люди устами шанують Мене, серце ж їхнє далеко від Мене!

9 a nd in vain do they worship Me, teaching teachings -- commands of men.'

Та однак надаремне шанують Мене, бо навчають наук людських заповідей...

10 A nd having called near the multitude, he said to them, `Hear and understand:

І Він покликав народ, і промовив до нього: Послухайте та зрозумійте!

11 n ot that which is coming into the mouth doth defile the man, but that which is coming forth from the mouth, this defileth the man.'

Не те, що входить до уст, людину сквернить, але те, що виходить із уст, те людину сквернить.

12 T hen his disciples having come near, said to him, `Hast thou known that the Pharisees, having heard the word, were stumbled?'

Тоді учні Його приступили й сказали Йому: Чи Ти знаєш, що фарисеї, почувши це слово, спокусилися?

13 A nd he answering said, `Every plant that my heavenly Father did not plant shall be rooted up;

А Він відповів і сказав: Усяка рослина, яку насадив не Отець Мій Небесний, буде вирвана з коренем.

14 l et them alone, guides they are -- blind of blind; and if blind may guide blind, both into a ditch shall fall.'

Залишіть ви їх: це сліпі поводатарі для сліпих. А коли сліпий водить сліпого, обоє до ями впадуть...

15 A nd Peter answering said to him, `Explain to us this simile.'

А Петро відповів і до Нього сказав: Поясни нам цю притчу.

16 A nd Jesus said, `Are ye also yet without understanding?

А Він відказав: Чи ж і ви розуміння не маєте?

17 d o ye not understand that all that is going into the mouth doth pass into the belly, and into the drain is cast forth?

Чи ж ви не розумієте, що все те, що входить до уст, вступає в живіт, та й назовні виходить?

18 b ut the things coming forth from the mouth from the heart do come forth, and these defile the man;

Що ж виходить із уст, те походить із серця, і воно опоганює людину.

19 f or out of the heart come forth evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, whoredoms, thefts, false witnessings, evil speakings:

Бо з серця виходять лихі думки, душогубства, перелюби, розпуста, крадіж, неправдиві засвідчення, богозневаги.

20 t hese are the things defiling the man; but to eat with unwashen hands doth not defile the man.'

Оце те, що людину опоганює. А їсти руками невмитими, не опоганює це людини!

21 A nd Jesus having come forth thence, withdrew to the parts of Tyre and Sidon,

І, вийшовши звідти, Ісус відійшов у землі тирські й сидонські.

22 a nd lo, a woman, a Canaanitess, from those borders having come forth, did call to him, saying, `Deal kindly with me, Sir -- Son of David; my daughter is miserably demonized.'

І ось жінка одна хананеянка, із тих околиць прийшовши, заголосила до Нього й сказала: Змилуйся надо мною, Господи, Сину Давидів, демон тяжко дочку мою мучить!

23 A nd he did not answer her a word; and his disciples having come to him, were asking him, saying -- `Let her away, because she crieth after us;'

А Він їй не казав ані слова. Тоді учні Його, підійшовши, благали Його та казали: Відпусти її, бо кричить услід за нами!

24 a nd he answering said, `I was not sent except to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.'

А Він відповів і сказав: Я посланий тільки до овечок загинулих дому Ізраїлевого...

25 A nd having come, she was bowing to him, saying, `Sir, help me;'

А вона, підійшовши, уклонилась Йому та й сказала: Господи, допоможи мені!

26 a nd he answering said, `It is not good to take the children's bread, and to cast to the little dogs.'

А Він відповів і сказав: Не годиться взяти хліб у дітей, і кинути щенятам...

27 A nd she said, `Yes, sir, for even the little dogs do eat of the crumbs that are falling from their lords' table;'

Вона ж відказала: Так, Господи! Але ж і щенята їдять ті кришки, що спадають зо столу їхніх панів.

28 t hen answering, Jesus said to her, `O woman, great thy faith, let it be to thee as thou wilt;' and her daughter was healed from that hour.

Тоді відповів і сказав їй Ісус: О жінко, твоя віра велика, нехай буде тобі, як ти хочеш! І тієї години дочка її видужала.

29 A nd Jesus having passed thence, came nigh unto the sea of Galilee, and having gone up to the mountain, he was sitting there,

І, відійшовши звідти, Ісус прибув до Галілейського моря, і, зійшовши на гору, сів там.

30 a nd there came to him great multitudes, having with them lame, blind, dumb, maimed, and many others, and they did cast them at the feet of Jesus, and he healed them,

І приступило до Нього багато народу, що мали з собою кривих, калік, сліпих, німих і інших багато, і клали їх до Ісусових ніг. І Він уздоровлював їх.

31 s o that the multitudes did wonder, seeing dumb ones speaking, maimed whole, lame walking, and blind seeing; and they glorified the God of Israel.

А народ не виходив із дива, бо бачив, що говорять німі, каліки стають здорові, криві ходять, і бачать сліпі, і славив він Бога Ізраїлевого!

32 A nd Jesus having called near his disciples, said, `I have compassion upon the multitude, because now three days they continue with me, and they have not what they may eat; and to let them away fasting I will not, lest they faint in the way.'

А Ісус Своїх учнів покликав і сказав: Жаль Мені цих людей, що вже три дні зо Мною знаходяться, але їсти не мають чого; відпустити їх без їжі не хочу, щоб вони не ослабли в дорозі.

33 A nd his disciples say to him, `Whence to us, in a wilderness, so many loaves, as to fill so great a multitude?'

А учні Йому відказали: Де нам узяти стільки хліба в пустині, щоб нагодувати стільки народу?

34 A nd Jesus saith to them, `How many loaves have ye?' and they said, `Seven, and a few little fishes.'

А Ісус запитав їх: Скільки маєте хліба? Вони ж відказали: Семеро, та трохи рибок.

35 A nd he commanded the multitudes to sit down upon the ground,

І Він ізвелів на землі посідати народові.

36 a nd having taken the seven loaves and the fishes, having given thanks, he did break, and gave to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude.

І, взявши сім хлібів і риби, віддавши Богу подяку, поламав і дав учням Своїм, а учні народові.

37 A nd they did all eat, and were filled, and they took up what was over of the broken pieces seven baskets full,

І всі їли й наситилися, а з позосталих кусків назбирали сім кошиків повних...

38 a nd those eating were four thousand men, apart from women and children.

Їдців же було чотири тисячі мужа, окрім жінок та дітей.

39 A nd having let away the multitudes, he went into the boat, and did come to the borders of Magdala.

І, відпустивши народ, усів Він до човна, і прибув до землі Магдалинської.
