1 A nd yet, I pray thee, O Job, Hear my speech and all my words give ear.

Але слухай но, Йове, промови мої, і візьми до ушей всі слова мої.

2 L o, I pray thee, I have opened my mouth, My tongue hath spoken in the palate.

Ось я уста свої відкриваю, в моїх устах говорить язик мій.

3 O f the uprightness of my heart my sayings, And knowledge have my lips clearly spoken.

Простота мого серця слова мої, і висловлять ясно знання мої уста.

4 T he Spirit of God hath made me, And the breath of the Mighty doth quicken me.

Дух Божий мене учинив, й оживляє мене Всемогутнього подих.

5 I f thou art able -- answer me, Set in array before me -- station thyself.

Якщо можеш, то дай мені відповідь, вишикуйсь передо мною, постався!

6 L o, I, according to thy word, for God, From the clay I -- I also, have been formed.

Тож Божий і я, як і ти, з глини витиснений теж і я!

7 L o, my terror doth not frighten thee, And my burden on thee is not heavy.

Ото страх мій тебе не настрашить, і не буде тяжкою рука моя на тобі.

8 S urely -- thou hast said in mine ears, And the sounds of words I hear:

Отож, говорив до моїх ушей ти, і я чув голос слів:

9 ` Pure I, without transgression, Innocent I, and I have no iniquity.

Чистий я, без гріха, я невинний, і немає провини в мені!

10 L o, occasions against me He doth find, He doth reckon me for an enemy to Him,

Оце Сам Він причини на мене знаходить, уважає мене Собі ворогом.

11 H e doth put in the stocks my feet, He doth watch all my paths.'

У кайдани закув мої ноги, усі стежки мої Він стереже...

12 L o, this thou hast not been righteous, I answer thee, that greater is God than man.

Ось у цьому ти не справедливий! Відповім я тобі, бо більший же Бог за людину!

13 W herefore against Him hast thou striven, When all His matters He answereth not?

Чого Ти із Ним сперечаєшся, що про всі Свої справи Він відповіді не дає?

14 F or once doth God speak, and twice, (He doth not behold it.)

Бо Бог промовляє і раз, і два рази, та людина не бачить того:

15 I n a dream -- a vision of night, In the falling of deep sleep on men, In slumberings on a bed.

у сні, у видінні нічному, коли міцний сон на людей нападає, в дрімотах на ложі,

16 T hen He uncovereth the ear of men, And for their instruction sealeth:

тоді відкриває Він ухо людей, і настрашує їх осторогою,

17 T o turn aside man doing, And pride from man He concealeth.

щоб відвести людину від чину її, і Він гордість від мужа ховає,

18 H e keepeth back his soul from corruption, And his life from passing away by a dart.

щоб від гробу повстримати душу його, а живая його щоб не впала на ратище.

19 A nd he hath been reproved With pain on his bed, And the strife of his bones enduring.

І карається хворістю він на постелі своїй, а в костях його сварка міцна.

20 A nd his life hath nauseated bread, And his soul desirable food.

І жива його бридиться хлібом, а душа його стравою влюбленою.

21 H is flesh is consumed from being seen, And high are his bones, they were not seen!

Гине тіло його, аж не видно його, і вистають його кості, що перше не видні були.

22 A nd draw near to the pit doth his soul, And his life to those causing death.

І до гробу душа його зближується, а живая його до померлих іде.

23 I f there is by him a messenger, An interpreter -- one of a thousand, To declare for man his uprightness:

Якщо ж Ангол-заступник при нім, один з тисячі, щоб представити людині її правоту,

24 T hen He doth favour him and saith, `Ransom him from going down to the pit, I have found an atonement.'

то Він буде йому милосердний та й скаже: Звільни ти його, щоб до гробу не йшов він, Я викуп знайшов.

25 F resher his flesh than a child's, He returneth to the days of his youth.

Тоді відмолодиться тіло його, поверне до днів його юности.

26 H e maketh supplication unto God, And He accepteth him. And he seeth His face with shouting, And He returneth to man His righteousness.

Він благатиме Бога, й його Собі Він уподобає, і обличчя його буде бачити з окликом радости, і чоловікові верне його справедливість.

27 H e looketh on men, and saith, `I sinned, And uprightness I have perverted, And it hath not been profitable to me.

Він дивитиметься на людей й говоритиме: Я грішив був і правду кривив, та мені не відплачено.

28 H e hath ransomed my soul From going over into the pit, And my life on the light looketh.'

Він викупив душу мою, щоб до гробу не йшла, і буде бачити світло живая моя.

29 L o, all these doth God work, Twice -- thrice with man,

Бог робить це все двічі-тричі з людиною,

30 T o bring back his soul from the pit, To be enlightened with the light of the living.

щоб душу її відвернути від гробу, щоб він був освітлений світлом живих.

31 A ttend, O Job, hearken to me, Keep silent, and I -- I do speak.

Уважай, Йове, слухай мене, мовчи, а я промовлятиму!

32 I f there are words -- answer me, Speak, for I have a desire to justify thee.

Коли маєш слова, то дай мені відповідь, говори, бо бажаю твого оправдання.

33 I f there are not -- hearken thou to me, Keep silent, and I teach thee wisdom.

Якщо ні ти послухай мене; помовчи, й я навчу тебе мудрости!
