1 A nd Jehovah sendeth Nathan unto David, and he cometh unto him, and saith to him: `Two men have been in one city; One rich and one poor;

І послав Господь Натана до Давида, а він прийшов до нього та й сказав йому: Два чоловіки були в одному місті, один заможний, а один убогий.

2 T he rich hath flocks and herds very many;

У заможного було дуже багато худоби дрібної та худоби великої.

3 A nd the poor one hath nothing, Except one little ewe-lamb, Which he hath bought, and keepeth alive, And it groweth up with him, And with his sons together; Of his morsel it eateth, And from his cup it drinketh, And in his bosom it lieth, And it is to him as a daughter;

А вбогий нічого не мав, окрім однієї малої овечки, яку він набув та утримував при житті. І росла вона з ним та з синами його разом, із кавалка хліба його їла й з Келіха його пила, та на лоні його лежала, і була йому як дочка.

4 A nd there cometh a traveller to the rich man, And he spareth to take Of his own flock, and of his own herd, To prepare for the traveller Who hath come to him, And he taketh the ewe-lamb of the poor man, And prepareth it for the man Who hath come unto him.'

І прийшов до багатого чоловіка подорожній, та той жалував узяти з худоби своєї дрібної чи з худоби своєї великої, щоб спорядити їжу для подорожнього, що до нього прийшов, і він узяв овечку того вбогого чоловіка, і спорядив її для чоловіка, що до нього прийшов...

5 A nd the anger of David burneth against the man exceedingly, and he saith unto Nathan, `Jehovah liveth, surely a son of death the man who is doing this,

І сильно запалав Давидів гнів на того чоловіка, і він сказав до Натана: Як живий Господь, вартий смерти той чоловік, що чинить таке.

6 a nd the ewe-lamb he doth repay fourfold, because that he hath done this thing, and because that he had no pity.'

А овечку він оплатить чотирикротно, за те, що зробив таку річ, і за те, що не змилосердився.

7 A nd Nathan saith unto David, `Thou the man! Thus said Jehovah, God of Israel, I anointed thee for king over Israel, and I delivered thee out of the hand of Saul;

І сказав Натан до Давида: Ти той чоловік! Так сказав Господь, Бог Ізраїлів: Я помазав тебе над Ізраїлем, і Я спас тебе з Саулової руки.

8 a nd I give to thee the house of thy lord, and the wives of thy lord, into thy bosom, and I give to thee the house of Israel and of Judah; and if little, then I add to thee such and such.

І дав тобі дім твого пана, та жінок пана твого на лоно твоє, і дав тобі дім Ізраїля та Юди, а якщо цього мало, то додам тобі ще цього та того.

9 ` Wherefore hast thou despised the word of Jehovah, to do the evil thing in His eyes? Uriah the Hittite thou hast smitten by the sword, and his wife thou hast taken to thee for a wife, and him thou hast slain by the sword of the Bene-Ammon.

І чому ти зневажив Господнє слово, і вчинив це зло в очах Його? Хіттеянина Урію вбив ти мечем, а його дружину взяв собі за жінку. А його вбив мечем Аммонових синів.

10 ` And now, the sword doth not turn aside from thy house unto the age, because thou hast despised Me, and dost take the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be to thee for a wife;

А тепер не відступить меч від твого дому аж навіки за те, що зневажив ти Мене, і взяв дружину хіттеяника Урії, щоб була тобі за жінку.

11 t hus said Jehovah, Lo, I am raising up against thee evil, out of thy house, and have taken thy wives before thine eyes, and given to thy neighbour, and he hath lain with thy wives before the eyes of this sun;

Так сказав Господь: Ось Я наведу на тебе зло з твого дому, і заберу жінок твоїх на очах твоїх, і дам ближньому твоєму, а він покладеться з жінками твоїми при світлі цього сонця.

12 f or thou hast done in secret, and I do this thing before all Israel, and before the sun.'

Хоч ти вчинив потаємно, а Я зроблю цю річ перед усім Ізраїлем та перед сонцем.

13 A nd David saith unto Nathan, `I have sinned against Jehovah.' And Nathan saith unto David, `Also -- Jehovah hath caused thy sin to pass away; thou dost not die;

І сказав Давид до Натана: Згрішив я перед Господом! А Натан сказав до Давида: І Господь зняв твій гріх, не помреш!

14 o nly, because thou hast caused the enemies of Jehovah greatly to despise by this thing, also the son who is born to thee doth surely die.'

Та що ти спонукав зневаження Господа цією річчю, то син твій, народжений тобі, конче помре.

15 A nd Nathan goeth unto his house, and Jehovah smiteth the lad, whom the wife of Uriah hath born to David, and it is incurable;

І пішов Натан до свого дому, а Господь уразив дитя, що Давидові породила Урієва жінка, і воно захворіло.

16 a nd David seeketh God for the youth, and David keepeth a fast, and hath gone in and lodged, and lain on the earth.

А Давид молив Бога за дитинку, і постив Давид, і входив до кімнати, і ночував, поклавшись на землю.

17 A nd the elders of his house rise against him, to raise him up from the earth, and he hath not been willing, nor hath he eaten with them bread;

І прийшли старші його дому до нього, щоб підняти його з землі, та він не хотів, і не підкріпився з ними хлібом.

18 a nd it cometh to pass on the seventh day, that the lad dieth, and the servants of David fear to declare to him that the lad is dead, for they said, `Lo, in the lad being alive we spake unto him, and he did not hearken to our voice; and how do we say unto him, The lad is dead? -- then he hath done evil.'

І сталося сьомого дня, і померло те дитя, а Давидові слуги боялися донести йому, що померло те дитя, бо казали: Ось як була та дитина живою, говорили ми до нього, та не слухав він нашого голосу; а як ми скажемо до нього: Померло це дитя, то ще вчинить щось лихе.

19 A nd David seeth that his servants are whispering, and David understandeth that the lad is dead, and David saith unto his servants, `Is the lad dead?' and they say, `Dead.'

А Давид побачив, що слуги його шепочуться поміж собою, і зрозумів Давид, що померло те дитя. І сказав Давид до своїх слуг: Чи не померло те дитя? А ті відказали: Померло.

20 A nd David riseth from the earth, and doth bathe and anoint, and changeth his raiment, and cometh in to the house of Jehovah, and boweth himself, and cometh unto his house, and asketh and they place for him bread, and he eateth.

І звівся Давид із землі, і помився, і намастився, і змінив свою одежу, і ввійшов до Господнього дому та й поклонився. Потому ввійшов до свого дому, і захотів їсти, і поклали йому хліба, і він їв.

21 A nd his servants say unto him, `What this thing thou hast done? because of the living lad thou hast fasted and dost weep, and when the lad is dead thou hast risen and dost eat bread.'

І сказали йому слуги його: Що це за річ, яку ти вчинив? Коли те дитя жило, ти постив та плакав; а як померло те дитя, ти встав та й їв хліб?

22 A nd he saith, `While the lad is alive I have fasted, and weep, for I said, Who knoweth? -- Jehovah doth pity me, and the lad hath lived;

А він відказав: Коли те дитя ще жило, я постив та плакав, бо казав: Хто знає, може Господь учинить мені милість, і буде жити дитя те?

23 a nd now, he hath died, why this -- I fast? am I able to bring him back again? I am going unto him, and he doth not turn back unto me.'

А тепер, померло воно. Нащо то я б постив? Чи зможу ще повернути його? Я піду до нього, а воно не вернеться до мене...

24 A nd David comforteth Bath-Sheba his wife, and goeth in unto her, and lieth with her, and she beareth a son, and he calleth his name Solomon; and Jehovah hath loved him,

І потішив Давид жінку свою Вірсавію, і прийшов до неї, і ліг із нею. І вона вродила сина, а він назвав ім'я йому: Соломон. І Господь полюбив його,

25 a nd sendeth by the hand of Nathan the prophet, and calleth his name Jedidiah, because of Jehovah.

і послав пророка Натана, і той назвав ім'я йому: Єдід'я, ради Господа.

26 A nd Joab fighteth against Rabbah of the Bene-Ammon, and captureth the royal city,

А Йоав воював з Раббою аммонітян, і здобув царське місто.

27 a nd Joab sendeth messengers unto David, and saith, `I have fought against Rabbah -- also I have captured the city of waters;

І послав Йоав послів до Давида, і сказав: Воював я з Раббою, і здобув я місто води.

28 a nd now, gather the rest of the people, and encamp against the city, and capture it, lest I capture the city, and my name hath been called upon it.'

А тепер збери решту народу, і таборуй біля міста, та здобудь його, щоб не здобув те місто я, і щоб не було воно назване моїм ім'ям.

29 A nd David gathereth all the people, and goeth to Rabbah, and fighteth against it, and captureth it;

І зібрав Давид увесь народ, і пішов до Рабби, і воював із нею, та й здобув її.

30 a nd he taketh the crown of their king from off his head, and its weight a talent of gold, and precious stones, and it is on the head of David; and the spoil of the city he hath brought out, very much;

І взяв він корону з голови їхнього царя, а вага її талант золота, та дорогий камінь, і Давид поклав її на свою голову. І він виніс дуже багато здобичі з того міста.

31 a nd the people who in it he hath brought out, and setteth to the saw, and to cutting instruments of iron, and to axes of iron, and hath caused them to pass over into the brick-kiln; and so he doth to all the cities of the Bene-Ammon; and David turneth back, and all the people, to Jerusalem.

А народ, що був у ньому, він повиводив, і поклав їх під пилку, і під залізні долота та під залізні сокири, і позаганяв їх до цегельняної печі. І так робив він усім аммонітським містам. І вернувся Давид та ввесь народ до Єрусалиму.
