1 A nd draw near do the days of David to die, and he chargeth Solomon his son, saying,

І наблизилися Давидові дні до смерти, і він наказав своєму синові Соломонові, говорячи:

2 ` I am going in the way of all the earth, and thou hast been strong, and become a man,

Ось я йду дорогою всієї землі, а ти будеш міцний та станеш мужем.

3 a nd kept the charge of Jehovah thy God, to walk in His ways, to keep His statutes, His commands, and His judgments, and His testimonies, as it is written in the law of Moses, so that thou dost wisely all that thou dost, and whithersoever thou turnest,

І будеш ти стерегти накази Господа, Бога свого, щоб ходити Його дорогами, щоб стерегти постанови Його, заповіді Його, та устави Його й свідчення Його, як писано в Мойсеєвім Законі, щоб тобі щастило в усьому, що будеш робити, і скрізь, куди звернешся,

4 s o that Jehovah doth establish His word which He spake unto me, saying, If thy sons observe their way to walk before Me in truth, with all their heart, and with all their soul; saying, There is not cut off a man of thine from the throne of Israel.

щоб виповнив Господь слово Своє, яке говорив мені, кажучи: Якщо сини твої будуть стерегти дороги свої, щоб ходити перед лицем Моїм у правді всім своїм серцем та всією душею своєю, то, сказав: Не буде переводу нікому від тебе на троні Ізраїлевім!

5 ` And also, thou hast known that which he did to me -- Joab son of Zeruiah -- that which he did to two heads of the hosts of Israel, to Abner son of Ner, and to Amasa son of Jether -- that he slayeth them, and maketh the blood of war in peace, and putteth the blood of war in his girdle, that on his loins, and in his sandals that on his feet;

А також ти знаєш, що зробив мені Йоав, син Церуїн, що зробив він двом провідникам Ізраїлевих військ, Авнерові, Неровому синові, та Амасі, синові Єтеровому. Він повбивав їх, і пролив воєнну кров у час миру, і поплямив воєнною кров'ю свого пояса, що на стегнах його, та сандалі свої, що на ногах його.

6 a nd thou hast done according to thy wisdom, and dost not let his old age go down in peace to Sheol.

І ти зробиш за своєю мудрістю, і не даси знизитися сивині його мирно до шеолу.

7 ` And to the sons of Barzillai the Gileadite thou dost do kindness, and they have been among those eating at thy table, for so they drew near unto me in my fleeing from the face of Absalom thy brother.

А синам ґілеадянина Барзіллая зробиш ласку, і нехай вони будуть серед тих, що їдять за твоїм столом, бо вони отак прийшли до мене, коли я втікав перед Авесаломом, твоїм братом.

8 ` And lo, with thee Shimei son of Gera, the Benjamite of Bahurim, and he reviled me -- a grievous reviling -- in the day of my going to Mahanaim; and he hath come down to meet me at the Jordan, and I swear to him by Jehovah, saying, I do not put thee to death by the sword;

А ось з тобою Шім'ї, Ґерин син, веніяминівець із Бахуріму. А він прокляв був мене гострим прокляттям того дня, коли я йшов до Маханаїму. Та він прийшов до Йордану стрінути мене, і я присягнув йому Господом, говорячи: Не заб'ю тебе мечем!

9 a nd now, acquit him not, for a wise man thou, and thou hast known that which thou dost to him, and hast brought down his old age with blood to Sheol.'

А тепер не прощай йому, бо ти муж мудрий, і знатимеш, що зробити йому, і ти сивину його зведеш у крові до шеолу.

10 A nd David lieth down with his fathers, and is buried in the city of David,

І спочив Давид з батьками своїми, і був похований у Давидовім Місті.

11 a nd the days that David hath reigned over Israel forty years, in Hebron he hath reigned seven years, and in Jerusalem he hath reigned thirty and three years.

А дні, що Давид царював над Ізраїлем, сорок літ: у Хевроні царював він сім літ, а в Єрусалимі царював тридцять і три роки.

12 A nd Solomon hath sat on the throne of David his father, and his kingdom is established greatly,

І сів Соломон на троні Давида, батька свого, і його царювання було дуже міцне.

13 a nd Adonijah son of Haggith cometh in unto Bath-Sheba, mother of Solomon, and she saith, `Is thy coming peace?' and he saith, `Peace.'

І прийшов Адонія, син Гаґґітин, до Вірсавії, Соломонової матері, а вона сказала: Чи прихід твій з миром? І він відказав: З миром.

14 A nd he saith, `I have a word unto thee,' and she saith, `Speak.'

І сказав: Справа в мене до тебе. А вона відказала: Говори!

15 A nd he saith, `Thou hast known that the kingdom was mine, and towards me set their faces had all Israel for reigning, and the kingdom is turned round about, and is my brother's, for from Jehovah it was his;

І він сказав: Ти знаєш, що моє було це царство, і на мене звернув увесь Ізраїль своє обличчя, щоб мені царювати. Та відійшло царство, і досталось моєму братові, бо від Господа це сталось йому.

16 a nd now, one petition I am asking of thee -- turn not back my face;' and she saith unto him, `Speak.'

А тепер одне бажання жадаю я від тебе: Не відмовляй мені! А вона сказала йому: Говори!

17 A nd he saith, `Speak, I pray thee, to Solomon the king, for he doth not turn back thy face, and he doth give to me Abishag the Shunammite for a wife.'

І він сказав: Скажи цареві Соломонові, бо він не відмовить тобі, щоб він дав мені шунаммітку Авішаґ за жінку.

18 A nd Bath-Sheba saith, `Good; I do speak for thee unto the king.'

І сказала Вірсавія: Добре, я скажу про тебе цареві.

19 A nd Bath-Sheba cometh in unto king Solomon to speak to him for Adonijah, and the king riseth to meet her, and boweth himself to her, and sitteth on his throne, and placeth a throne for the mother of the king, and she sitteth at his right hand.

І прийшла Вірсавія до царя Соломона, щоб сказати йому про Адонія. А цар устав назустріч їй, і вклонився їй, та й сів на своєму троні. І поставив він трона й для царевої матері, і вона сіла по правиці його.

20 A nd she saith, `One small petition I ask of thee, turn not back my face;' and the king saith to her, `Ask, my mother, for I do not turn back thy face.'

І сказала вона: Одне мале жадання бажаю я від тебе, не відмов мені. І сказав їй цар: Жадай, мати моя, бо я не відмовлю тобі.

21 A nd she saith, `Let Abishag the Shunammite be given to Adonijah thy brother for a wife.'

І сказала вона: Нехай шунаммітка Авішаґ буде дана братові твоєму Адонії за жінку.

22 A nd king Solomon answereth and saith to his mother, `And why art thou asking Abishag the Shunammite for Adonijah? also ask for him the kingdom -- for he mine elder brother -- even for him, and for Abiathar the priest, and for Joab son of Zeruiah.'

І відповів цар Соломон та й сказав своїй матері: І нащо ти просиш шунаммітку Авішаґ для Адонії? Та попроси для нього й царства, бо він брат мій, старший від мене, і для нього, і для священика Евіятара, і для Йоава, Церуїного сина!...

23 A nd king Solomon sweareth by Jehovah, saying, `Thus doth God to me, and thus He doth add -- surely against his soul hath Adonijah spoken this word;

І присягнув цар Соломон Господом, говорячи: Так нехай зробить мені Бог, і так нехай додасть, коли не на душу свою говорив Адонія це слово...

24 a nd now, Jehovah liveth, who hath established me, and causeth me to sit on the throne of David my father, and who hath made for me an house as He spake -- surely to-day is Adonijah put to death.'

А тепер, як живий Господь, що міцно поставив мене й посадовив мене на троні мого батька Давида, і що зробив мені дім, як говорив був, сьогодні буде вбитий Адонія!

25 A nd king Solomon sendeth by the hand of Benaiah son of Jehoiada, and he falleth upon him, and he dieth.

І послав цар Соломон через Бенаю, Єгоядиного сина, і він уразив його, і той помер...

26 A nd to Abiathar the priest said the king, `To Anathoth go, unto thy fields; for a man of death thou, but in this day I do not put thee to death, because thou hast borne the ark of the Lord Jehovah before David my father, and because thou wast afflicted in all that my father was afflicted in.'

А священикові Евіятарові цар сказав: Іди до Анатоту на поля свої, бо ти чоловік смерти, а цього дня не вб'ю тебе, бо носив ти ковчега Владики Господа перед обличчям батька мого Давида, і що терпів ти в усьому, в чому терпів мій батько.

27 A nd Solomon casteth out Abiathar from being priest to Jehovah, to fulfil the word of Jehovah which He spake concerning the house of Eli in Shiloh.

І вигнав Соломон Евіятара, щоб не був священиком для Господа, щоб виповнилося слово Господнє, яке говорив у Шіло на дім Іліїв.

28 A nd the report hath come unto Joab -- for Joab hath turned aside after Adonijah, though after Absalom he did not turn aside -- and Joab fleeth unto the tent of Jehovah, and layeth hold on the horns of the altar.

А звістка про це прийшла аж до Йоава, бо Йоав схилявся до Адонії, а до Авесалома не схилявся. І втік Йоав до Господньої скинії, і схопився за роги жертівника...

29 A nd it is declared to king Solomon that Joab hath fled unto the tent of Jehovah, and lo, near the altar; and Solomon sendeth Benaiah son of Jehoiada, saying, `Go, fall upon him.'

І донесено цареві Соломонові, що Йоав утік до скинії Господньої, і ось він при жертівнику. І послав Соломон Бенаю, Єгоядиного сина, говорячи: Іди, урази його!

30 A nd Benaiah cometh in unto the tent of Jehovah, and saith unto him, `Thus said the king, Come out;' and he saith, `Nay, but here I die.' And Benaiah bringeth back the king word, saying, `Thus spake Joab, yea, thus he answered me.'

І ввійшов Беная до Господньої скинії, та й сказав до нього: Так сказав цар: Вийди! А той відказав: Ні, я тут помру! І передав Беная цареві це слово, говорячи: Так сказав Йоав, і так відповів мені.

31 A nd the king saith to him, `Do as he hath spoken, and fall upon him, and thou hast buried him, and turned aside the causeless blood which Joab shed, from off me, and from off the house of my father;

І сказав йому цар: Зроби, як я говорив, і врази його. І поховаєш його, і здіймеш невинну кров, що Йоав пролив був, з мене та з дому мого батька.

32 a nd Jehovah hath turned back his blood on his own head, who hath fallen on two men more righteous and better than he, and slayeth them with the sword, -- and my father David knew not -- Abner son of Ner, head of the host of Israel, and Amasa son of Jether, head of the host of Judah;

І нехай оберне Господь його кров на його голову, що він уразив був двох мужів справедливих та ліпших від нього, і повбивав їх мечем, а батько мій Давид того не знав: Авнера, Нериного сина, провідника Ізраїлевого війська, та Амасу, сина Єтеревого, провідника Юдиного війська.

33 y ea, turned back hath their blood on the head of Joab, and on the head of his seed to the age; and for David, and for his seed, and for his house, and for his throne, there is peace unto the age, from Jehovah.'

І нехай звернеться їхня кров на голову Йоава та на голову насіння його навіки. А Давидові й насінню його та дому його й трону його нехай буде мир від Господа аж навіки.

34 A nd Benaiah son of Jehoiada goeth up and falleth upon him, and putteth him to death, and he is buried in his own house in the wilderness,

І пішов Беная, Єгоядин син, і вразив його, та й убив його. І був він похований у своїм домі в пустині.

35 a nd the king putteth Benaiah son of Jehoiada in his stead over the host, and Zadok the priest hath the king put in the stead of Abiathar.

А цар, замість нього, настановив над військом Бенаю, Єгоядиного сина, а священика Садока цар настановив замість Евіятара.

36 A nd the king sendeth and calleth for Shimei, and saith to him, `Build for thee a house in Jerusalem, and thou hast dwelt there, and dost not go out thence any where;

І послав цар, і покликав Шім'ї та й сказав йому: Збудуй собі дім в Єрусалимі, й осядеш там, і не вийдеш звідти ані сюди, ані туди.

37 a nd it hath been, in the day of thy going out, and thou hast passed over the brook Kidron, thou dost certainly know that thou dost surely die -- thy blood is on thy head.'

І буде того дня, як ти вийдеш і перейдеш поток Кедрон, то щоб ти добре знав, що конче помреш. Кров твоя буде на голові твоїй!

38 A nd Shimei saith to the king, `The word good; as my lord the king hath spoken so doth thy servant do;' and Shimei dwelleth in Jerusalem many days.

І сказав Шім'ї до царя: Добра це річ. Як наказав пан мій цар, так зробить раб твій. І сидів Шім'ї в Єрусалимі багато днів.

39 A nd it cometh to pass, at the end of three years, that flee do two of the servants of Shimei unto Achish son of Maachah, king of Gath, and they declare to Shimei, saying, `Lo, thy servants in Gath;'

І сталося в кінці трьох років, і втекли двоє рабів Шім'ї до Ахіша, Маахіного сина, ґатського царя. І донесли Шім'ї, говорячи: Ось раби твої в Ґаті!

40 a nd Shimei riseth, and saddleth his ass, and goeth to Gath, unto Achish, to seek his servants, and Shimei goeth and bringeth his servants from Gath.

І встав Шім'ї, й осідлав осла свого та й подався до Ахіша, щоб пошукати своїх рабів. І пішов Шім'ї, і привів своїх рабів з Ґату.

41 A nd it is declared to Solomon that Shimei hath gone from Jerusalem to Gath, and doth return,

А Соломонові донесено, що Шім'ї пішов з Єрусалиму в Ґат і вернувся.

42 a nd the king sendeth and calleth for Shimei, and saith unto him, `Have I not caused thee to swear by Jehovah -- and I testify against thee, saying, In the day of thy going out, and thou hast gone anywhere, thou dost certainly know that thou dost surely die; and thou sayest unto me, The word I have heard good?

І послав цар, і покликав Шім'ї та й сказав до нього: Чи ж я не заприсяг тебе Господом, і не взяв свідка проти тебе, говорячи: Того дня, коли ти вийдеш і підеш туди чи сюди, щоб ти добре знав, що конче помреш? І ти сказав мені: Добра це річ, що я чув.

43 a nd wherefore hast thou not kept the oath of Jehovah, and the charge that I charged upon thee?'

І чому ти не додержувався Господньої присяги та наказа, що я наказав був тобі?

44 A nd the king saith unto Shimei, `Thou hast known all the evil that thy heart hath known, which thou didest to David my father, and Jehovah hath turned back thine evil on thy head,

І сказав цар до Шім'ї: Ти знаєш усе те зло, і знало твоє серце, що зробив ти Давидові, батькові моєму. І поверне Господь твоє зло на твою голову.

45 a nd king Solomon blessed, and the throne of David is established before Jehovah unto the age.'

А цар Соломон благословенний, а Давидів трон буде стояти міцно перед Господнім лицем аж навіки.

46 A nd the king chargeth Benaiah son of Jehoiada, and he goeth out and falleth on him, and he dieth, and the kingdom is established in the hand of Solomon.

І цар наказав Бенаї, Єгоядиному синові, і той вийшов і вразив його, і він помер. І царство зміцніло в Соломоновій руці.
