1 A nd it cometh to pass that Isaac aged, and his eyes are too dim for seeing, and he calleth Esau his elder son, and saith unto him, `My son;' and he saith unto him, `Here I.'

І сталося, що зостарівсь Ісак, і затемнились очі йому, і він не бачив. І покликав він старшого сина свого Ісава, і промовив до нього: Мій сину! А той відказав йому: Ось я!

2 A nd he saith, `Lo, I pray thee, I have become aged, I have not known the day of my death;

І промовив до нього Ісак: Оце я зостарівся, не знаю дня смерти своєї...

3 a nd now, take up, I pray thee, thy instruments, thy quiver, and thy bow, and go out to the field, and hunt for me provision,

А тепер візьми знаряддя своє, сагайдака свого й лука свого, та й вийди на поле, і злови мені здобич мисливську.

4 a nd make for me tasteful things, as I have loved, and bring in to me, and I do eat, so that my soul doth bless thee before I die.'

І зготуй мені наїдок смачний, як я люблю, і принеси мені, і нехай я з'їм, щоб поблагословила тебе душа моя, поки помру.

5 A nd Rebekah is hearkening while Isaac is speaking unto Esau his son; and Esau goeth to the field to hunt provision -- to bring in;

А Ревека чула, як говорив Ісак до Ісава, сина свого. І пішов Ісав на поле, щоб зловити й принести здобич мисливську.

6 a nd Rebekah hath spoken unto Jacob her son, saying, `Lo, I have heard thy father speaking unto Esau thy brother, saying,

А Ревека сказала Якову, синові своєму, говорячи: Ось я чула, як твій батько казав до Ісава, брата твого, говорячи:

7 B ring for me provision, and make for me tasteful things, and I do eat, and bless thee before Jehovah before my death.

Принеси но здобич мисливську мені, і зроби мені наїдок смачний, нехай з'їм, і поблагословлю тебе перед лицем Господнім перед смертю своєю.

8 ` And now, my son, hearken to my voice, to that which I am commanding thee:

А тепер, сину мій, послухай мого голосу, те, що я розкажу тобі.

9 G o, I pray thee, unto the flock, and take for me from thence two good kids of the goats, and I make them tasteful things for thy father, as he hath loved;

Іди до отари, і візьми мені звідти двоє добрих козлят, а я їх приготую, як наїдок смачний для батька твого, як він любить.

10 a nd thou hast taken in to thy father, and he hath eaten, so that his soul doth bless thee before his death.

І принесеш батькові своєму, і буде він їсти, щоб поблагословити тебе перед смертю своєю.

11 A nd Jacob saith unto Rebekah his mother, `Lo, Esau my brother a hairy man, and I a smooth man,

І промовив Яків до Ревеки, матері своєї: Таж брат мій Ісав чоловік волохатий, а я чоловік гладенький!

12 i t may be my father doth feel me, and I have been in his eyes as a deceiver, and have brought upon me disesteem, and not a blessing;'

Може обмацає мене батько мій, і я стану в очах його як обманець, і спроваджу на себе прокляття, а не благословення...

13 a nd his mother saith to him, `On me thy disesteem, my son; only hearken to my voice, and go, take for me.'

І сказала йому його мати: На мені прокляття твоє, сину мій! Тільки послухай слів моїх, та йди принеси мені.

14 A nd he goeth, and taketh, and bringeth to his mother, and his mother maketh tasteful things, as his father hath loved;

І пішов він, і взяв, і приніс своїй матері. І зробила мати його наїдок смачний, як любив його батько.

15 a nd Rebekah taketh the desirable garments of Esau her elder son, which with her in the house, and doth put on Jacob her younger son;

І взяла Ревека гарні вбрання свого старшого сина Ісава, що були в домі з нею, і вбрала молодшого сина свого Якова.

16 a nd the skins of the kids of the goats she hath put on his hands, and on the smooth of his neck,

А шкури козлят наділа на руки йому, і на гладеньку шию його.

17 a nd she giveth the tasteful things, and the bread which she hath made, into the hand of Jacob her son.

І дала смачний наїдок та хліб, що вона спорядила, у руку Якова, сина свого.

18 A nd he cometh in unto his father, and saith, `My father;' and he saith, `Here I; who thou, my son?'

І прибув він до батька свого та й сказав: Батьку мій! А той відказав: Ось я. Хто ти, мій сину?

19 A nd Jacob saith unto his father, `I Esau thy first-born; I have done as thou hast spoken unto me; rise, I pray thee, sit, and eat of my provision, so that thy soul doth bless me.'

А Яків промовив до батька свого: Я Ісав перворідний. Я зробив, як сказав ти мені. Уставай, сядь і попоїж із здобичі мисливської, щоб душа твоя поблагословила мене.

20 A nd Isaac saith unto his son, `What this thou hast hasted to find, my son?' and he saith, `That which Jehovah thy God hath caused to come before me.'

І сказав Ісак до сина свого: Як це ти так швидко знайшов, сину мій? А той відказав: Бо мені допоміг Господь, Бог твій.

21 A nd Isaac saith unto Jacob, `Come nigh, I pray thee, and I feel thee, my son, whether thou he, my son Esau, or not.'

І промовив Ісак до Якова: Підійди но, і нехай я обмацаю тебе, сину мій, чи ти це син мій Ісав, чи ні.

22 A nd Jacob cometh nigh unto Isaac his father, and he feeleth him, and saith, `The voice the voice of Jacob, and the hands hands of Esau.'

І підійшов Яків до Ісака, батька свого. А той обмацав його та й сказав: Голос голос Яковів, а руки руки Ісавові.

23 A nd he hath not discerned him, for his hands have been hairy, as the hands of Esau his brother, and he blesseth him,

І не впізнав він його, бо були його руки як руки Ісава, брата його, волохаті, і поблагословив він його.

24 a nd saith, `Thou art he -- my son Esau?' and he saith, `I.'

І сказав він: То ти син мій Ісав? А той відказав: Я.

25 A nd he saith, `Bring nigh to me, and I do eat of my son's provision, so that my soul doth bless thee;' and he bringeth nigh to him, and he eateth; and he bringeth to him wine, and he drinketh.

І промовив Ісак: Подай же мені, і нехай з'їм з мисливської здобичі сина мого, щоб поблагословила тебе душа моя. І подав він йому, і він їв, і приніс йому вина, і він пив.

26 A nd Isaac his father saith to him, `Come nigh, I pray thee, and kiss me, my son;'

І промовив до нього Ісак, його батько: Підійди ж, і поцілуй мене, сину мій!

27 a nd he cometh nigh, and kisseth him, and he smelleth the fragrance of his garments, and blesseth him, and saith, `See, the fragrance of my son as the fragrance of a field which Jehovah hath blessed;

І він підійшов, і поцілував його. А той понюхав запах вбрання його, і поблагословив його, та й сказав: Дивись, запах сина мого немов запах поля, що його Господь благословив!

28 a nd God doth give to thee of the dew of heaven, and of the fatness of the earth, and abundance of corn and wine;

І хай Бог тобі дасть з роси Неба, і з ситости землі, і збіжжя багато й вина молодого!

29 p eoples serve thee, and nations bow themselves to thee, be thou mighty over thy brethren, and the sons of thy mother bow themselves to thee; those who curse thee cursed, and those who bless thee blessed.'

Нехай тобі служать народи, і народи нехай тобі кланяються! Будь паном для братів своїх, і нехай тобі кланяються сини матері твоєї. Хто тебе проклинає проклятий, а хто поблагословить тебе благословенний!.

30 A nd it cometh to pass, as Isaac hath finished blessing Jacob, and Jacob is only just going out from the presence of Isaac his father, that Esau his brother hath come in from his hunting;

І сталося, як закінчив був Ісак благословляти Якова, і сталося, тільки но вийшов був Яків від обличчя Ісака, батька свого, аж Ісав, його брат, прийшов з полювання свого...

31 a nd he also maketh tasteful things, and bringeth to his father, and saith to his father, `Let my father arise, and eat of his son's provision, so that thy soul doth bless me.'

І також він приготовив наїдок смачний, і батьку своєму приніс. І сказав він до батька свого: Нехай встане мій батько, і хай їсть із здобичі мисливської сина свого, щоб душа твоя благословила мене!

32 A nd Isaac his father saith to him, `Who thou?' and he saith, `I thy son, thy first-born, Esau;'

І озвався до нього Ісак, його батько: Хто ти? А той відказав: Я син твій, твій перворідний Ісав.

33 a nd Isaac trembleth a very great trembling, and saith, `Who, now, he who hath provided provision, and bringeth in to me, and I eat of all before thou comest in, and I bless him? -- yea, blessed is he.'

І Ісак затремтів тремтінням аж надто великим, та й сказав: Хто ж тоді той, що мисливську здобич зловив, і до мене приніс, а я попоїв від усього, поки прийшов ти, і я поблагословив його? І він буде благословенний!

34 W hen Esau heareth the words of his father, then he crieth a very great and bitter cry, and saith to his father, `Bless me, me also, O my father;'

Як Ісав почув слова батька свого, то закричав криком сильним та вельми гірким. І сказав він до батька свого: Поблагослови мене, також мене, батьку мій!

35 a nd he saith, `Thy brother hath come with subtilty, and taketh thy blessing.'

А той відказав: Обманом прийшов був твій брат, та й забрав благословення твоє!

36 A nd he saith, `Is it because called his name Jacob that he doth take me by the heel these two times? my birthright he hath taken; and lo, now, he hath taken my blessing;' he saith also, `Hast thou not kept back a blessing for me?'

І промовив Ісав: Тому звалось ім'я його: Яків, і він обманив два рази мене: забрав перворідство моє, а це тепер забрав благословення моє. І сказав він: Чи ти не заховав для мене благословення?

37 A nd Isaac answereth and saith to Esau, `Lo, a mighty one have I set him over thee, and all his brethren have I given to him for servants, and corn and wine have I sustained him; and for thee now, what shall I do, my son?'

А Ісак відповів і промовив до Ісава: Тож я вчинив його паном для тебе, та дав йому всіх братів його за рабів. І я забезпечив його хлібом і молодим вином. А що ж тоді тобі я зроблю, сину мій?

38 A nd Esau saith unto his father, `One blessing hast thou my father? bless me, me also, O my father;' and Esau lifteth up his voice, and weepeth.

І сказав Ісав до батька свого: Чи в тебе одне те благословення, батьку мій? Поблагослови мене, також мене, батьку мій! І підніс Ісав голос свій, та й заплакав...

39 A nd Isaac his father answereth and saith unto him, `Lo, of the fatness of the earth is thy dwelling, and of the dew of the heavens from above;

І відповів Ісак, батько його, та й промовив до нього: Ото буде садиба твоя без ситости землі, і без роси небесної згори.

40 a nd by thy sword dost thou live, and thy brother dost thou serve; and it hath come to pass when thou rulest, that thou hast broken his yoke from off thy neck.'

І зо свого меча будеш жити, і будеш служити ти брату своєму. Та однако коли постараєшся, то зламаєш ярмо його з шиї своєї...

41 A nd Esau hateth Jacob, because of the blessing with which his father blessed him, and Esau saith in his heart, `The days of mourning my father draw near, and I slay Jacob my brother.'

І зненавидів Ісав Якова через благословення, що поблагословив його батько його. І сказав Ісав у серці своєму: Нехай наближаться дні жалоби по батьку моєму, і я вб'ю Якова, брата свого.

42 A nd the words of Esau her elder son are declared to Rebekah, and she sendeth and calleth for Jacob her younger son, and saith unto him, `Lo, Esau thy brother is comforting himself in regard to thee -- to slay thee;

І розказано Ревеці слова Ісава, її старшого сина. І послала, і покликала Якова, молодшого сина свого, та й сказала до нього: Ось Ісав, брат твій, тішиться тим, що уб'є тебе.

43 a nd now, my son, hearken to my voice, and rise, flee for thyself unto Laban my brother, to Haran,

А тепер, сину мій, послухай мого голосу, і встань, і втечи собі до Лавана, брата мого, до Харану.

44 a nd thou hast dwelt with him some days, till thy brother's fury turn back,

І посидиш у нього кілька часу, аж поки відвернеться лютість твого брата,

45 t ill thy brother's anger turn back from thee, and he hath forgotten that which thou hast done to him, and I have sent and taken thee from thence; why am I bereaved even of you both the same day?'

аж поки відвернеться гнів твого брата від тебе, і він забуде, що ти зробив був йому. Тоді я пошлю й заберу тебе звідти. Чого маю я стратити вас обох одного дня?

46 A nd Rebekah saith unto Isaac, `I have been disgusted with my life because of the presence of the daughters of Heth; if Jacob take a wife of the daughters of Heth, like these -- from the daughters of the land -- why do I live?'

І сказала Ревека Ісакові: Життя мені обридло через дочок Хетових. Коли Яків візьме жінку з дочок Хетових, як ці, з дочок цього Краю, то нащо й жити мені?
