1 A nd Elihu addeth and saith: --

І далі Елігу казав:

2 H onour me a little, and I shew thee, That yet for God words.

Почекай мені трохи, й тобі покажу, бо ще є про Бога слова.

3 I lift up my knowledge from afar, And to my Maker I ascribe righteousness.

Зачну викладати я здалека, і Творцеві своєму віддам справедливість.

4 F or, truly, my words not false, The perfect in knowledge with thee.

Бо справді слова мої не неправдиві, я з тобою безвадний в знанні.

5 L o, God mighty, and despiseth not, Mighty power heart.

Таж Бог сильний, і не відкидає нікого, Він міцний в силі серця.

6 H e reviveth not the wicked, And the judgment of the poor appointeth;

Не лишає безбожного Він при житті, але право для бідних дає.

7 H e withdraweth not from the righteous His eyes, And kings on the throne, And causeth them to sit for ever, and they are high,

Від праведного Він очей Своїх не відвертає, але їх садовить з царями на троні назавжди, і вони підвищаються.

8 A nd if prisoners in fetters They are captured with cords of affliction,

А як тільки вони ланцюгами пов'язані, і тримаються в путах біди,

9 T hen He declareth to them their work, And their transgressions, Because they have become mighty,

то Він їм представляє їх вчинок та їхні провини, що багато їх стало.

10 A nd He uncovereth their ear for instruction, And saith that they turn back from iniquity.

Відкриває Він ухо їх для остороги, та велить, щоб вернулися від беззаконня.

11 I f they do hear and serve, They complete their days in good, And their years in pleasantness.

Якщо тільки послухаються, та стануть служити Йому, покінчать вони свої дні у добрі, а роки свої у приємнощах.

12 A nd if they do not hearken, By the dart they pass away, And expire without knowledge.

Коли ж не послухаються, то наскочать на ратище, і покінчать життя без знання.

13 A nd the profane in heart set the face, They cry not when He hath bound them.

А злосерді кладуть гнів на себе, не кричать, коли в'яже Він їх.

14 T heir soul dieth in youth, And their life among the defiled.

У молодості помирає душа їх, а їхня живая поміж блудниками.

15 H e draweth out the afflicted in his affliction, And uncovereth in oppression their ear.

Він визволяє убогого з горя його, а в переслідуванні відкриває їм ухо.

16 A nd also He moved thee from a strait place, a broad place -- no straitness under it, And the sitting beyond of thy table Hath been full of fatness.

Також і тебе Він би вибавив був із тісноти на широкість, що в ній нема утиску, а те, що на стіл твій поклалося б, повне товщу було б.

17 A nd the judgment of the wicked thou hast fulfilled, Judgment and justice are upheld -- because of fury,

Та правом безбожного ти переповнений, право ж та суд підпирають людину.

18 L est He move thee with a stroke, And the abundance of an atonement turn thee not aside.

Отож лютість нехай не намовить тебе до плескання в долоні, а окуп великий нехай не заверне з дороги тебе.

19 D oth He value thy riches? He hath gold, and all the forces of power.

Чи в біді допоможе твій зойк та всі зміцнення сили?

20 D esire not the night, For the going up of peoples in their stead.

Не квапся до ночі тієї, коли вирвані будуть народи із місця свого.

21 T ake heed -- do not turn unto iniquity, For on this thou hast fixed Rather than affliction.

Стережись, не звертайся до зла, яке замість біди ти обрав.

22 L o, God doth sit on high by His power, Who like Him -- a teacher?

Отож, Бог найвищий у силі Своїй, хто навчає, як Він?

23 W ho hath appointed unto Him his way? And who said, `Thou hast done iniquity?'

Хто дорогу Його Йому вказувати буде? І хто скаже: Ти кривду зробив?

24 R emember that thou magnify His work That men have beheld.

Пам'ятай, щоб звеличувати Його вчинок, про якого виспівують люди,

25 A ll men have looked on it, Man looketh attentively from afar.

що його бачить всяка людина, чоловік приглядається здалека.

26 L o, God high, And we know not the number of His years, Yea, there no searching.

Отож, Бог великий та недовідомий, і недослідиме число Його літ!

27 W hen He doth diminish droppings of the waters, They refine rain according to its vapour,

Бо стягає Він краплі води, і дощем вони падають з хмари Його,

28 W hich clouds do drop, They distil on man abundantly.

що хмари спускають його, і спадають дощем на багато людей.

29 Y ea, doth understand The spreadings out of a cloud? The noises of His tabernacle?

Також хто зрозуміє розтягнення хмари, грім намету Його?

30 L o, He hath spread over it His light, And the roots of the sea He hath covered,

Отож, розтягає Він світло Своє над Собою і морську глибінь закриває,

31 F or by them He doth judge peoples, He giveth food in abundance.

бо ними Він судить народи, багато поживи дає.

32 B y two palms He hath covered the light, And layeth a charge over it in meeting,

Він тримає в руках Своїх блискавку, і керує її проти цілі.

33 H e sheweth by it his friend substance, Anger against perversity.

Її гуркіт звіщає про неї, і прихід її відчуває й худоба.
