1 A nd Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, turned back from the Jordan, and was brought in the Spirit to the wilderness,

А Ісус, повний Духа Святого, вернувсь з-над Йордану, і Дух на пустиню Його попровадив.

2 f orty days being tempted by the Devil, and he did not eat anything in those days, and they having been ended, he afterward hungered,

Сорок день там диявол Його спокушав, і за тих днів Він нічого не їв, а коли закінчились вони, то вкінці зголоднів.

3 a nd the Devil said to him, `If Son thou art of God, speak to this stone that it may become bread.'

І диявол до Нього сказав: Якщо Ти Син Божий, скажи цьому каменеві, щоб хлібом він став!

4 A nd Jesus answered him, saying, `It hath been written, that, not on bread only shall man live, but on every saying of God.'

А Ісус відповів йому: Написано: Не хлібом самим буде жити людина, але кожним Словом Божим!

5 A nd the Devil having brought him up to an high mountain, shewed to him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time,

І він вивів Його на гору високу, і за хвилину часу показав Йому всі царства на світі.

6 a nd the Devil said to him, `To thee I will give all this authority, and their glory, because to me it hath been delivered, and to whomsoever I will, I do give it;

І диявол сказав Йому: Я дам Тобі всю оцю владу та їхню славу, бо мені це передане, і я даю, кому хочу, її.

7 t hou, then, if thou mayest bow before me -- all shall be thine.'

Тож коли Ти поклонишся передо мною, то все буде Твоє!

8 A nd Jesus answering him said, `Get thee behind me, Adversary, for it hath been written, Thou shalt bow before the Lord thy God, and Him only thou shalt serve.'

І промовив Ісус йому в відповідь: Написано: Господеві Богові своєму вклоняйся, і служи Одному Йому!

9 A nd he brought him to Jerusalem, and set him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to him, `If the Son thou art of God, cast thyself down hence,

І повів Його в Єрусалим, і на наріжнику храму поставив, та й каже Йому: Як Ти Син Божий, кинься звідси додолу!

10 f or it hath been written -- To His messengers He will give charge concerning thee, to guard over thee,

Бо написано: Він накаже про Тебе Своїм Анголам, щоб Тебе берегли!

11 a nd -- On hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou mayest dash against a stone thy foot.'

і: Вони на руках понесуть Тебе, щоб коли не спіткнув Ти об камінь Своєї ноги!

12 A nd Jesus answering said to him -- `It hath been said, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.'

А Ісус відказав йому в відповідь: Сказано: Не спокушай Господа Бога свого!

13 A nd having ended all temptation, the Devil departed from him till a convenient season.

І диявол, скінчивши все цеє спокушування, відійшов від Нього до часу.

14 A nd Jesus turned back in the power of the Spirit to Galilee, and a fame went forth through all the region round about concerning him,

А Ісус у силі Духа вернувся до Галілеї, і чутка про Нього рознеслась по всій тій країні.

15 a nd he was teaching in their synagogues, being glorified by all.

І Він їх навчав по їхніх синагогах, і всі Його славили.

16 A nd he came to Nazareth, where he hath been brought up, and he went in, according to his custom, on the sabbath-day, to the synagogue, and stood up to read;

І прибув Він до Назарету, де був вихований. І звичаєм Своїм Він прийшов дня суботнього до синагоги, і встав, щоб читати.

17 a nd there was given over to him a roll of Isaiah the prophet, and having unfolded the roll, he found the place where it hath been written:

І подали Йому книгу пророка Ісаї. Розгорнувши ж Він книгу, знайшов місце, де було так написано:

18 ` The Spirit of the Lord upon me, Because He did anoint me; To proclaim good news to the poor, Sent me to heal the broken of heart, To proclaim to captives deliverance, And to blind receiving of sight, To send away the bruised with deliverance,

На Мені Дух Господній, бо Мене Він помазав, щоб Добру Новину звіщати вбогим. Послав Він Мене проповідувати полоненим визволення, а незрячим прозріння, відпустити на волю помучених,

19 T o proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.'

щоб проповідувати рік Господнього змилування.

20 A nd having folded the roll, having given back to the officer, he sat down, and the eyes of all in the synagogue were gazing on him.

І, книгу згорнувши, віддав службі й сів. А очі всіх у синагозі звернулись на Нього.

21 A nd he began to say unto them -- `To-day hath this writing been fulfilled in your ears;'

І почав Він до них говорити: Сьогодні збулося Писання, яке ви почули!

22 a nd all were bearing testimony to him, and were wondering at the gracious words that are coming forth out of his mouth, and they said, `Is not this the son of Joseph?'

І всі Йому стверджували й дивувались словам благодаті, що линули з уст Його. І казали вони: Чи ж то Він не син Йосипів?

23 A nd he said unto them, `Certainly ye will say to me this simile, Physician, heal thyself; as great things as we heard done in Capernaum, do also here in thy country;'

Він же промовив до них: Ви Мені конче скажете приказку: Лікарю, уздоров самого себе! Учини те й тут, у вітчизні Своїй, що сталося чули ми у Капернаумі.

24 a nd he said, `Verily I say to you -- No prophet is accepted in his own country;

І сказав Він: Поправді кажу вам: Жаден пророк не буває приємний у вітчизні своїй.

25 a nd of a truth I say to you, Many widows were in the days of Elijah, in Israel, when the heaven was shut for three years and six months, when great famine came on all the land,

Та правдиво кажу вам: Багато вдовиць перебувало за днів Іллі серед Ізраїля, коли на три роки й шість місяців небо було зачинилося, так що голод великий настав був по всій тій землі,

26 a nd unto none of them was Elijah sent, but -- to Sarepta of Sidon, unto a woman, a widow;

а Ілля не до жадної з них не був посланий, тільки в Сарепту Сидонську до овдовілої жінки.

27 a nd many lepers were in the time of Elisha the prophet, in Israel, and none of them was cleansed, but -- Naaman the Syrian.'

І багато було прокажених за Єлисея пророка в Ізраїлі, але жаден із них не очистився, крім Неємана сиріянина.

28 A nd all in the synagogue were filled with wrath, hearing these things,

І всі в синагозі, почувши оце, переповнились гнівом.

29 a nd having risen, they put him forth without the city, and brought him unto the brow of the hill on which their city had been built -- to cast him down headlong,

І, вставши, вони Його вигнали за місто, і повели аж до краю гори, на якій їхнє місто було побудоване, щоб скинути додолу Його...

30 a nd he, having gone through the midst of them, went away.

Але Він перейшов серед них, і віддалився.

31 A nd he came down to Capernaum, a city of Galilee, and was teaching them on the sabbaths,

І прийшов Він у Капернаум, галілейське місто, і там їх навчав по суботах.

32 a nd they were astonished at his teaching, because his word was with authority.

І дивувались науці Його, бо слово Його було владне.

33 A nd in the synagogue was a man, having a spirit of an unclean demon, and he cried out with a great voice,

І був чоловік у синагозі, що мав духа нечистого демона, і він закричав гучним голосом:

34 s aying, `Away, what -- to us and to thee, Jesus, O Nazarene? thou didst come to destroy us; I have known thee who thou art -- the Holy One of God.'

Ах, що нам до Тебе, Ісусе Назарянине? Ти прийшов погубити нас. Я знаю Тебе, хто Ти, Божий Святий...

35 A nd Jesus did rebuke him, saying, `Be silenced, and come forth out of him;' and the demon having cast him into the midst, came forth from him, having hurt him nought;

А Ісус заборонив йому, кажучи: Замовчи, і вийди з нього! І, кинувши демон того насередину, вийшов із нього, нічого йому не пошкодивши.

36 a nd amazement came upon all, and they were speaking together, with one another, saying, `What this word, that with authority and power he doth command the unclean spirits, and they come forth?'

І всіх жах обгорнув, і питали вони один одного, кажучи: Що то за наука, що духам нечистим наказує з владою й силою, і виходять вони?...

37 a nd there was going forth a fame concerning him to every place of the region round about.

І неслася чутка про Нього по всіх місцях краю.

38 A nd having risen out of the synagogue, he entered into the house of Simon, and the mother-in-law of Simon was pressed with a great fever, and they did ask him about her,

А як вийшов Він із синагоги, увійшов у дім Симона. Теща ж Симонова в великій гарячці лежала. І просили за неї Його.

39 a nd having stood over her, he rebuked the fever, and it left her, and presently, having risen, she was ministering to them.

І, ставши над нею, Він заборонив тій гарячці, і вона полишила її. І, зараз уставши, теща їм прислуговувала.

40 A nd at the setting of the sun, all, as many as had any ailing with manifold sicknesses, brought them unto him, and he on each one of them hands having put, did heal them.

Коли ж сонце заходило, то всі, хто мав яких хворих на різні недуги, до Нього приводили їх. Він же клав Свої руки на кожного з них, та їх уздоровляв.

41 A nd demons also were coming forth from many, crying out and saying -- `Thou art the Christ, the Son of God;' and rebuking, he did not suffer them to speak, because they knew him to be the Christ.

Із багатьох же виходили й демони, кричачи та говорячи: Ти Син Божий! Та Він їм забороняв, і не давав говорити, що знали вони, що Христос Він.

42 A nd day having come, having gone forth, he went on to a desert place, and the multitudes were seeking him, and they came unto him, and were staying him -- not to go on from them,

Коли ж настав день, Він вийшов, і подавсь до самотнього місця. А люди шукали Його. І прийшовши до Нього, Його затримували, щоб від них не відходив.

43 a nd he said unto them -- `Also to the other cities it behoveth me to proclaim good news of the reign of God, because for this I have been sent;'

Він же промовив до них: І іншим містам Я повинен звіщати Добру Новину про Боже Царство, бо на те Мене послано.

44 a nd he was preaching in the synagogues of Galilee.

І Він проповідував по синагогах Галілеї.
