1 A nd at the completion of these things, drawn nigh unto me have the heads, saying, `The people of Israel, and the priests, and the Levites, have not been separated from the peoples of the lands, as to their abominations, even the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Perizzite, the Jebusite, the Ammonite, the Moabite, the Egyptian, and the Amorite,

А як скінчилося це, підійшли до мене зверхники, говорячи: Цей народ, Ізраїль, і священики та Левити не відділилися від народів цих країв з їхніми гидотами, від хананеян, періззеян, євусеян, аммонеян, моавітян, єгиптян та амореян,

2 f or they have taken of their daughters to them, and to their sons, and the holy seed have mingled themselves among the peoples of the lands, and the hand of the heads and of the seconds have been first in this trespass.'

бо побрали з їхніх дочок собі та своїм синам, змішалося святе насіння з народами цих країв, а рука зверхників та представників була перша в цьому спроневіренні.

3 A nd at my hearing this word, I have rent my garment and my upper robe, and pluck out of the hair of my head, and of my beard, and sit astonished,

А коли я почув це слово, то роздер я одежу свою та плаща свого, і рвав волосся з голови своєї та з бороди своєї, і сидів остовпілий...

4 a nd unto me are gathered every one trembling at the words of the God of Israel, because of the trespass of the removal, and I am sitting astonished till the present of the evening.

І зібралися до мене всі тремтячі перед словами Бога Ізраїлевого за спроневірення поверненців, а я сидів остовпілий аж до жертви вечірньої.

5 A nd at the present of the evening I have risen from mine affliction, and at my rending my garment and my upper robe, then I bow down on my knees, and spread out my hands unto Jehovah my God,

А за вечірньої жертви встав я з упокорення свого, і, роздерши шату свою та плаща свого, упав я на коліна свої, і простягнув руки свої до Господа, Бога мого...

6 a nd say, `O my God, I have been ashamed, and have blushed to lift up, O my God, my face unto Thee, for our iniquities have increased over the head, and our guilt hath become great unto the heavens.

І сказав я: Боже мій, соромлюся я та стидаюся піднести, Боже мій, обличчя своє до Тебе, бо беззаконня наші помножилися понад голову, а наша провина виросла аж до неба!...

7 ` From the days of our fathers we in great guilt unto this day, and in our iniquities we have been given -- we, our kings, our priests -- into the hand of the kings of the lands, with sword, with captivity, and with spoiling, and with shame of face, as this day.

Від днів наших батьків ми в великій провині аж до дня цього, а за наші беззаконня були віддані ми, наші царі, наші священики в руку царів цих країв на меча, на полон, і на грабіж, і на посоромлення обличчя, як цього дня.

8 ` And now, as a small moment hath grace been from Jehovah our God, to leave to us an escape, and to give to us a nail in His holy place, by our God's enlightening our eyes, and by giving us a little quickening in our servitude;

А тепер на малу хвилю сталася нам милість від Господа, Бога нашого, щоб позоставити нам останок, і дати нам затвердитися на місці святині Його, щоб освітити очі наші, Боже наш, і дати нам трохи ожити в нашій неволі!

9 f or servants we, and in our servitude our God hath not forsaken us, and stretcheth out unto us kindness before the kings of Persia, to give to us a quickening to lift up the house of our God, and to cause its wastes to cease, and to give to us a wall in Judah and in Jerusalem.

Бо раби ми, та в нашій неволі не покинув нас Бог наш, і прихилив до нас милість перед перськими царями, щоб дати нам ожити, щоб піднести дім нашого Бога й щоб відбудувати руїни його, та щоб дати нам захист в Юдеї та в Єрусалимі.

10 ` And now, what do we say, O our God, after this? for we have forsaken Thy commands,

А тепер що скажемо, Боже наш, по цьому? Бо ми покинули заповіді Твої,

11 t hat Thou hast commanded by the hands of thy servants the prophets, saying, The land into which ye are going to possess it, a land of impurity, by the impurity of the people of the lands, by their abominations with which they have filled it -- from mouth unto mouth -- by their uncleanness;

які Ти наказав через Своїх рабів пророків, говорячи: Цей Край, що ви йдете посісти, він край нечистий через нечистість народу цих країв, через їхні гидоти, що наповнили його від краю до краю своєю нечистістю.

12 a nd now, your daughters ye do not give to their sons, and their daughters ye do not take to your sons, and ye do not seek their peace, and their good -- unto the age, so that ye are strong, and have eaten the good of the land, and given possession to your sons unto the age.

А тепер дочок своїх не давайте їхнім синам, а їхніх дочок не беріть для своїх синів, і не питайте їх про мир та про добро їх аж навіки, щоб ви стали сильні, та споживали добро цієї землі, і віддали на спадок вашим синам аж навіки.

13 ` And after all that hath come upon us for our evil works, and for our great guilt (for Thou, O our God, hast kept back of the rod from our iniquities, and hast given to us an escape like this),

А по тому всьому, що прийшло на нас за наші злі чини та за нашу велику провину, бо Ти, Боже наш, стримав кару більше від гріха нашого, і дав нам таку рештку,

14 d o we turn back to break Thy commands, and to join ourselves in marriage with the people of these abominations? art not Thou angry against us -- even to consumption -- till there is no remnant and escaped part?

чи знову ми ламатимемо заповіді Твої, і будемо посвоячуватися з оцими мерзотними народами? Чи ж Ти не розгніваєшся на нас аж до вигублення нас, так що ніхто не позостався б і не врятувався?

15 ` O Jehovah, God of Israel, righteous Thou, for we have been left an escape, as this day; lo, we before Thee in our guilt, for there is none to stand before Thee concerning this.'

Господи, Боже Ізраїлів, Ти праведний, бо ми позосталися останком, як цього дня. Ось ми в провині своїй перед лицем Твоїм, бо не встояти нам за це перед лицем Твоїм!...
