1 A son of twenty years Ahaz in his reigning, and sixteen years he hath reigned in Jerusalem, and he hath not done that which is right in the eyes of Jehovah, as David his father,

Ахаз був віку двадцяти літ, коли він зацарював, і шістнадцять літ царював в Єрусалимі.

2 a nd walketh in the ways of the kings of Israel, and also, molten images hath made for Baalim,

І ходив він дорогами Ізраїлевих царів, а також робив литих бовванів Ваалів.

3 a nd himself hath made perfume in the valley of the son of Hinnom, and burneth his sons with fire according to the abominations of the nations that Jehovah dispossessed from the presence of the sons of Israel,

І він кадив у долині Бен-Гіннома, і палив своїх синів огнем за гидотами тих народів, що Господь повиганяв їх перед Ізраїлевими синами.

4 a nd sacrificeth and maketh perfume in high places, and on the heights, and under every green tree.

І він приносив жертви та кадив на пагірках і на висотах, та під кожним зеленим деревом.

5 A nd Jehovah his God giveth him into the hand of the king of Aram, and they smite him, and take captive from him a great captivity, and bring in to Damascus, and also into the hand of the king of Israel he hath been given, and he smiteth him -- a great smiting.

І дав його Господь, Бог його, в руку сирійського царя, і вони повбивали з його війська та взяли до неволі від нього багатьох полонених, і спровадили до Дамаску. Крім того, він був виданий і в руку Ізраїлевого царя, і той уразив його великою поразою.

6 A nd Pekah son of Remaliah slayeth in Judah a hundred and twenty thousand in one day (the whole sons of valour), because of their forsaking Jehovah, God of their fathers.

І побив Пеках, син Ремалії, в Юді сто й двадцять тисяч одного дня, все мужів хоробрих, за те, що залишили вони Господа, Бога їхніх батьків.

7 A nd Zichri, a mighty one of Ephraim, slayeth Maaseiah son of the king, and Azrikam leader of the house, and Elkanah second to the king.

А Зіхрі, лицар Єфремів, забив Маасею, царського сина, й Азрікама, володаря дому, й Елкану, другого по царі.

8 A nd the sons of Israel take captive of their brethren, two hundred thousand, wives, sons and daughters, and also much spoil they have seized from them, and they bring in the spoil to Samaria.

І Ізраїлеві сини взяли до неволі зо своїх братів двісті тисяч жінок, синів та дочок, а також пограбували від них велику здобич, і спровадили ту здобич до Самарії.

9 A nd there hath been there a prophet of Jehovah (Oded his name), and he goeth out before the host that hath come in to Samaria, and saith to them, `Lo, in the fury of Jehovah God of your fathers against Judah, He hath given them into your hand, and ye slay among them in rage -- unto the heavens it hath come;

А там був Господній пророк, Одед ім'я йому. І він вийшов перед військо, що входило до Самарії, та й сказав їм: Ось Господь, Бог ваших батьків, у гніві на Юду, віддав їх у вашу руку, а ви повибивали між ними з лютістю, яка досягла аж до небес.

10 a nd now, sons of Judah and Jerusalem ye are saying to subdue for men-servants and for maid-servants to you; but are there not with you causes of guilt before Jehovah your God?

А тепер ви задумуєте здобути собі за рабів та за невільниць дітей Юди та Єрусалиму. Чи ж за вами самими нема провин проти Господа, Бога вашого?

11 a nd now, hear me, and send back the captives whom ye have taken captive of your brethren, for the heat of the anger of Jehovah upon you.'

Отож, послухайте мене тепер, і верніть тих полонених, яких взяли ви до неволі з ваших братів, бо на вас ревність Господнього гніву!

12 A nd certain of the heads of the sons of Ephraim (Azariah son of Johanan, Berechiah son of Meshillemoth, and Jehizkiah son of Shallum, and Amasa son of Hadlai), rise up against those coming in from the host,

І встали дехто з голів Єфремових синів: Азарія, син Єгоханана, Берехія, син Мешіллемотів, і Єхізкійя, син Шаллумів, і Амаса, син Хадлаїв, проти тих, що приходили з війська,

13 a nd say to them, `Ye do not bring in the captives hither, for, to guilt against Jehovah on us, ye are saying to add unto our sin and unto our guilt? for abundant the guilt we have, and the fierceness of anger on Israel.'

та й сказали до них: Не приводьте цих полонених сюди, бо на провину нам проти Господа ви задумуєте додати це до наших гріхів та до нашої провини. Бо велика наша провина та жар гніву Господнього на Ізраїля!

14 A nd the armed men leave the captives and the prey before the heads and all the assembly;

І озброєні покинули тих полонених та ту здобич перед зверхниками та всім збором.

15 a nd the men who have been expressed by name rise and take hold on the captives, and all their naked ones they have clothed from the spoil, yea, they clothe them, and shoe them, and cause them to eat and drink, and anoint them, and lead them on asses, even every feeble one, and bring them in to Jericho, the city of palms, near their brethren, and turn back to Samaria.

І встали ті мужі, що були означені іменами, і взяли полонених, і всіх їхніх нагих позодягали зо здобичі, і зодягнули їх, і обули їх, і нагодували їх, і напоїли їх, і намастили їх, і кожного слабого з них повезли на ослах. І припровадили їх до Єрихону, міста пальм, до їхніх братів, а самі вернулися до Самарії.

16 A t that time hath king Ahaz sent unto the king of Asshur to give help to him;

Того часу послав цар Ахаз до асирійських царів, щоб допомогли йому.

17 a nd again the Edomites have come, and smite in Judah, and take captive a captivity.

Прийшли ще й едомляни, і побили багатьох між Юдою, і взяли до неволі полонених.

18 A nd the Philistines have rushed against the cities of the low country, and of the south of Judah, and capture Beth-Shemesh, and Aijalon, and Gederoth, and Shocho and its villages, and Timnah and its villages, and Gimzo and its villages, and dwell there,

А филистимляни розсипалися по містах Шефелі та Юдиного Неґеву, і здобули Бет-Шемеш, і Айялон, і Ґедерот, і Сохо та залежні міста його, і Тімну та залежні міста її, і Ґімзо та залежні міста його, й осілися там.

19 f or Jehovah hath humbled Judah because of Ahaz king of Israel, for he made free with Judah, even to commit a trespass against Jehovah.

Бо Господь принизив Юду через Ахаза, Ізраїлевого царя, бо завільно поступав він щодо Юди, і спроневірився великим гріхом проти Господа.

20 A nd Tilgath-Pilneser king of Asshur cometh in unto him, and doth distress him, and hath not strengthened him,

І прийшов на нього Тіґлат Пілнеесер, цар асирійський, й утискав його, і не допоміг йому.

21 t hough Ahaz hath taken a portion of the house of Jehovah, and of the house of the king, and of the princes, and giveth to the king of Asshur, yet it is no help to him.

Бо Ахаз пограбував був Господній дім, і дім царів, і зверхників, і дав це асирійському цареві, та не було це на поміч йому.

22 A nd in the time of his distress -- he addeth to trespass against Jehovah, (this king Ahaz),

А в часі утиску його, то продовжував спроневірюватися Господеві він, той цар Ахаз.

23 a nd he sacrificeth to the gods of Damascus -- those smiting him, and saith, `Because the gods of the kings of Aram are helping them, to them I sacrifice, and they help me,' and they have been to him to cause him to stumble, and to all Israel.

І приносив він жертви дамаським богам, що його побили, і говорив: Через те, що боги сирійських царів допомагають їм, то буду приносити їм жертви, вони будуть допомагати мені! А вони були йому на те, щоб спотикався він та ввесь Ізраїль!

24 A nd Ahaz gathereth the vessels of the house of God, and cutteth in pieces the vessels of the house of God, and shutteth the doors of the house of Jehovah, and maketh to himself altars in every corner in Jerusalem.

І Ахаз зібрав посуд Божого дому, і порубав посуд Божого дому. І позамикав він двері Господнього дому, і поробив собі жертівники в кожному куті в Єрусалимі...

25 A nd in every city and city of Judah he hath made high places to make perfume to other gods, and provoketh Jehovah, God of his fathers.

І в кожному місті Юдиному поробив він пагірки, щоб кадити іншим богам, і розгнівав Господа, Бога батьків своїх.

26 A nd the rest of his matters, and all his ways, the first and the last, lo, they are written on the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.

А решта його діл та всі дороги його, перші й останні, ото вони описані в Книзі Царів Юдиних та Ізраїлевих.

27 A nd Ahaz lieth with his fathers, and they bury him in the city, in Jerusalem, but have not brought him in to the graves of the kings of Israel, and reign doth Hezekiah his son in his stead.

І спочив Ахаз зо своїми батьками, і поховали його в місті, в Єрусалимі, бо не внесли його до гробів Ізраїлевих царів, а замість нього зацарював син його Єзекія.
